Dr. Mario was my least favorite due to genre, probably followed by Super Mario 64 DS, I didn't like how they changed it with using the other characters, but for worst game... I'd have to go with Super Mario RPG, I just couldn't get into it at all.

I've never played any of the infamous games, but I found one recently.
 
New Super Mario Bros 2.

I'll list off the problems
-Tired concept
-Lazy music
-Very repetitive gameplay
-Bad final boss
-Boring level design
-No soul
-Crappy reward

I really hate this game, its the most disappointing game I've played this year. I do not recommend it.

There doesn't seem to be much love for Mario 2 or Super Mario RPG and I have to say I love both of these games. Super Mario RPG was a great RPG and if you're not into those types of games, of course you're not gonna like it, same with the Mario Party games. They are a blast to play when you have 4 people and it definitely creates some memorable moments.

And back to the question at hand, I have to say my least favorite Mario game was Super Mario Land on the gameboy. I haven't played Mario is Missing which seems to be the consensus for the worst game, but Super Mario Land was no fun to me when I played it way back when. I could probably play it now and have fun, but back then, it just didn't do it for me.

For me the worst Mario game is Mario's Time Machine for the snes. The game play is boring, the controls barely feel like a Mario game, and worst of all it is an educational game. Finally to respond to people who say Mario 2 is the worst, look I'm just as mad as the next fan about being lied to but that doesn't make Mario 2 a bad game. I like the game play style, the level design is good, and the controls are solid. I respect the opinion of those who dislike this game. This is one fans opinion and I don't expect every one to agree with me.
