Welcome to Digimon Card Battle Review! Another review by Seishiro Leonhart!

Where I got this game?
I didn't played this game on my childhood, I bought a pirated game called Digimon Party, which had Digimon World, Digimon World 2 and Digimon Card Battle, that CD kind sucked because Digimon World didn't work very well.

My opinion for the game
I liked this game, and I played it quite a good time, the only reason I didn't finished this game is because I don't know how to continue the game, but as far as I have tried out this game, I liked it a good much, the game is fun to play, and it is needed that you think about what you're going to do in battle, a single card can 'turn the table' for you, but also can 'turn the table' for your opponent, every card must be used wisely.

About the game
This game is a card game where you duel against other Digimon and other tamers, trying to become the best on the card game, and then some hacker duels against you trying to take over the dueling world, it's up to you to use the power of your deck to stop his plans! You once again enters the skin of Hiro, the boy from Digimon World, the boy you name it the way you want (You can put any name for the boy, but yes, but his real name is Hiro, every time you see that boy with the yellow jacket and a black or gray Digimon Cap, remember that his name is Hiro), to become the best on dueling and save the Digital world from evil, Hiro will have to beat all of the cities battle arenas in order to get to the next city.
Hiro will initially choose a Deck to start his quest, a offensive deck, a balanced deck or a defensive deck, and Betamon will offer you to learn how to play the card game.

Things you must know to play the game

The deck
In order to duel, you need to prepare your deck.
Decks consists of 30 cards, initially being one of the cards a Partner card, If I remember right, 10 cards being R's 6 to 8 (I'm not sure how much it is) being C and 4 to 2 being U, and 10 Support Cards.
During the game you obtain cards that you can put into your deck, they include Digimon cards, Support cards and maybe Digivolve cards.

Digimon cards
In order to beat other duelists, you need Digimon to fight, so without Digimons cards it is useless to battle, there are different levels of digimon, R, A, C and U, and 5 different specialities, Fire, Ice, Nature, Rare, and Dark, the digimon cards also comes with an amount of DP that you can rack up and Support Effects.

Specialities
In the game, there are 5 different specialities, being them: Fire, Ice, Nature, Rare and Dark.
Each of the specialities have it's advantages and disadvantages, I'll mention them right now.

Advantages on specialities
Fire: Fire digimon cards have high attack power, and the cards usually comes with Support effects of increasing attack power, Fire decks are Offensive. (I know the last two sentences because I use a Fire Deck)
Ice: Ice digimon cards have high HP, and the cards usually comes with Support effects of HP restoration, I'm not sure which kind of deck it is, if it's offensive of defensive.
Nature: Nature decks are quick to Digivolve, because of the high amount of DP (I will explain this later), The most common Support effect, if I remember right, is to decrease attack power of a determined speciality, mostly dark.
Rare: Rare decks have good Support effects, on my opinion this is the worst kind of deck, this is a defensive deck.
Dark: Dark decks are balanced on HP, Attack, and Support effects, Dark decks are for advanced players (If I wanted to, I would use a Dark deck, ok?), good for testing your skills on the game, they are VERY POWERFUL when they reach the U level.

Disadvantages on specialities
Fire: Fire digimons have low HP, in order to correct this problem, you can put in your deck, the recovery floopy cards, Support cards that increases HP.
Ice: Ice digimons, if I remember right, have low attack power, in order to correct this problem you can put cards that increases attack power.
Nature: Nature digimons, also, if I remember right, don't have good Support effects, since it is required that the opponent have a certain Speciality, in order for the Support effects work.
Rare: Rare digimons have average attack power, I know that the support effects are useless for me, but I don't remember which kind of Support effects they have.
Dark: Dark digimons take a long time to Digivolve, and the Supports effects are often risky, making 'All - Or - Nothing' gambles possibly dangerous, indeed a deck for advanced players (Think you can use a Dark deck?).

Partner cards
Obtaining a deck will also come with a Partner card, Partner cards are cards that you 'train' to gain up ranks, by gaining enough Experience to Level Up, gaining level ups can grant to your Partner card benefits such as initial HP higher, circle button attack power up, triangle button attack power up and also X button attack power up.
Partner cards have a P at the side of R which means Rookie level.
Partner cards can also equip parts that increases their attack power, increase amount of Experience got, increase initial HP, have different support effects, increase amount of DP, etc.
Partner cards can also equip digi-eggs, which allow the Partner digimon to Armor digivolve, according to the Digi-egg selected, to Armor digivolve, you need to confirm if you want to Armor digivolve right when you put a Partner digimon card on play, Armor digivolving will change your digimon status, which you can check on the "Partners" menu, but be warned, you can only Armor digivolve right when you put your digimon on the game, if you say no, you can no longer Armor digivolve, you may not want to do this sometimes, because after you Armor digivolve, you can't revert back to R or digivolve, the only way for you to be able to revert back or digivolve, is either getting your digimon KO'd (without reviving), or using digivolve cards (I'll explain this later).

Digimon attacks
Just having any digimon doesn't mean he'll save the world, he needs to attack in order to do it right?
So all the digimon cards have three different attacks.
Circle button: Mostly the most powerful attack, it is the finishing move of the digimon.
Triangle button: Mostly the medium attack of the digimon, it is the normal attack of the digimon.
X button: Mostly the weakest attack of the digimon, but mostly come with a special effect (I'll explain later).

DP (Digivolve Points)
DP means Digivolve Points, Digivolve points are used to Digivolve your digimon, In order to digivolve, you need to rack up a certain amount of DP, DP can be obtained by using other Digimons on the DP slot.
To rack up DP, you need to select a digimon from your hand to put on the DP slot, when it is asked to do so, note that it is not obligatory put a card on the DP slot, look on the bottom of the screen to find instructions to skip this step.
Please note that digimon cards put on DP slot CANNOT be brought back to your hand or be put into play, so make sure you really want to put the digimon on that slot, depending on your deck, or the condition of your deck, but don't worry about putting a digimon card on the DP slot by accident, because you will be asked if you really want to put the card on the DP slot.

Digivolving
In the game you have 4 levels of digimon cards, R, the initial digimon phase, which means Rookie, A for Armor Digivolve digimon ('A' value is between R and C levels), C for Champion and U for Ultimate.
If you insert a C digimon without digivolving, it will have a half (1/2) status penalty, if you insert a U digimon without digivolving, it will have a quarter (1/4) status penalty.
Each digimon card have the amount of DP that you will receive if you put the card on the DP slot, just look around the card for the amount of DP got.
In order to digivolve, you will need to collect the amount of DP mentioned on the card, you can digivolve (if you got enough DP) right after you get enough, note that, like the DP rack up, you're not forced to digivolve.
But this is not the only way to digivolve, you can use Digivolve cards, (No, I won't explain this yet, just wait a little longer)

Support cards
The hero of the game Hiro (lol) can also count on support cards, which can have effects that can benefit or not your digimon and / or your opponent digimon, by for example, restoring HP, increasing attack power for the button attack mentioned on the card, nullify either the enemy attack or your own, double your attack for all buttons, triple your attack for all buttons, drain enemy HP equal to power level of a button attack (Eat-Up HP it is called), decrease your own or your opponent HP, restore HP, Discard card from your hand (usually cards that need discarding can also come with a effect that can help in battle) or your opponent hand, Discard cards directly from the deck to the 'Graveyard', get back to deck a few cards from the Graveyard, copy enemy digimon status, revive your digimon if it's KO'd during the actual battle phase, swap HPs, change speciality, attack first, counter attack and much more.
All support cards can help during battle, you just have to take the ones that fits in your gaming ways, for example if you use a fire deck, you will want cards that benefits fire digimon.
Note that is not obligatory to use a Support card.

Digivolve cards
Digivolve cards, are cards that obviously are related to digivolving, they can make digimon digivolve faster or differently; Depending on your deck, these cards can truly come in handy.
Digivolve cards are used at the ending of Digivolve phase, depending on the time a digivolve card appears, it is better that you just use the card, even if there will be no effect, so it don't occupy space on your hand.
Some of the effects of the Digivolve cards are: Disregard DP to digivolve, digivolve or digi-devolve 'A' level digimon and Digivolve R digimon directly to U digimon.

X attacks special effects
Mostly, digimon have special effects on the X button attack, they can be also very important depending on the situation.
Some of the Special effects are Eat-UP HP, Counter circle, Circle to 0, attack first, Jamming, and other Special effects that can be very helpful.

Decision on who plays 1st or 2nd
To pick who goes first, and who goes second, you are given two cards on the beginning of the duel, 1 left and 1 right, you must choose one, if you get 1st, you go first, if you get 2nd your opponent goes first.

The phases of a turn
On the first phase of your turn, you choose digimon from your hand of 4 cards to put into play, you may now ask or find yourself on this situation: "Oh no! I got no R digimons cards to play!", don't worry, if you don't have a hand with R digimon, you can press the triangle button to discard all cards on your hand and draw new ones until you have 4 cards, your hand is automatically discarded if no digimon is in your hand to put on playing field.
On the second phase, you add DP to the DP slot, after adding a card (or skipping to put a card on the DP slot) to the DP slot, you can use a Digivolve card, also, you're not forced to use a Digivolve card, then if no digivolve was used or was used, if you met the requirements to digivolve and have a digimon to digivolve to, you can select a digimon to digivolve to.
On the third phase and final phase of your turn, it is the battle phase, both you and your opponent choose your attacks, being them the circle button, the triangle button, or the X button, after both of you picking your attacks, you can use a digimon card or support card from your hand, make sure you read about the support effect of the cards. Choose your attacks and Support cards wisely, you can also make 'All - Or - Nothing gambles.

All - Or - Nothing gambles
All - Or - Nothing gambles happens on the third phase of the turn, when you have the option to use a Support Card. All - Or - Nothing gambles is the action of using the card on top of the Online deck as a Support Card, it can be any card, sometimes, it may help you, sometimes, it may help your opponent, or maybe nothing will happen in times where there nothing for you to do to avoid being for example, KO'd by the enemy, the best thing you can do is do an 'All - Or - Nothing' gamble, nothing can tell what the card is, like the name suggests, it's All or Nothing.

Winning or losing
In order to win, you must either:
Defeat 3 enemy digimons.
The opponent not having any digimon to put on play.
When you defeat an oponent you receive 3 cards of them.
To lose it is the same thing, except that you don't lose cards.

Fusion shops
In some of the cities, there are the Fusion shops, on the fusion shops, you can create new cards, or give experience to a Partner digimon card.
Since ALL digimons games have mysteries that is up to you to find out, I'll let you discover the secrets of this place ;P

Conclusion of 'Things you must know to play'
Everything I told you may look difficult to learn, but it is quite simple, you just have to get the hang on it, once you master how to play you can fun on this game.

After a long time of talking, it's time to review this game.

Review
Graphics: 7
For me the graphics look okay, the faces of characters during talks look quite good, and also the cards looks good, this rating deserves a 7
Sound 9
I can say that the sounds of this game are really classic, reminds me when I played Digimon World, or seeing my brother play the game, and the musics are very good made too, for this I'll give the rating of 9.
Addictiveness 8
I say that when I play this game, I don't want to stop playing, this game is fun to play, the only moment that you may want to stop playing is when you don't know what to do to proceed on the game, which kind a sucks, just because of this, this rating will be 8.
Story 8
You are looking to be the best on the Digimon Card game, on the last city on the battle arena you must face a hacker called A, or Analogman, who tries to take over the Digital World, and it's up to you to stop his plans, for this I'm giving an 8
Depth 10
On this game you have a lot to do, you must face everybody in order to get all the cards (and something secret that you must do, but don't expect me to reveal it here :3), and also Level UP the Partner cards until the last Rank, this will take a while to do, so for this I'm giving a 10 to Depth.
Difficulty 7
Depending on the deck you have, the game can be very easy, so easy that you could call yourself an Invincible player, but, cards don't make a player, you can have the best cards, but if you don't use them well, you can lose the battle, the only difficulty of this game is to create a good deck, but after you made a good powerful deck, the game will be easier, so for this I'm giving an 7 on Difficulty.

Combining everything: Overall rate: 8.2
This is another good game that you should try out, the  game is very fun and will take good time from you, when you play (while progressing on the game) you want to continue playing, and continue playing, I recommend you to try out this game.

Great review! I enjoyed reading it although I've never been into Digimon. Keep up the great work with these reviews!

Jordanv78 : Thanks dude, I put almost all the details of the game here, it is worth reading through this review.
You will really learn these informations when you play the game, then you can get the hang of it.

"I put almost all the details of the game here"

That's what I absolutely disliked about this review. If I take the three sections where you're actually reviewing and giving opinion on the game, it's only 455 words long. The rest is just 2000 words of basic information I could find on a Wiki, in the manual, or anywhere on the Internet. It's unnecessary to completely explain the entire game before reviewing like that. I'd also add, while slightly irrelevant, that you had well over 20% of your posts in Crazy House yesterday, which is against the rules, and you probably should've been disqualified for it.

I hate the Tour de Vizzed.

tj4bigred :

Thank you for stating the opinion of everybody that actually has the sense to see that the Tour de Vizzed is pretty much a spam fest for fictional jerseys without a reward.

I quite agree with the two above posters. I believe this "review" was written for all the wrong reasons, just to make a extremely long post to earn a "jersey", a fictional reward you get for a spammy post like this one. This "review" should be closed and/or trashed, in my opinion.
