The history of a star... A shooting Star

The Video game industry can be cruel... Some games can be a big success and become into Legends in the Video game players, other games, sadly, are forgotten. And no one talks about or remember them, Even if it was a really good game... "Ristar: The Shooting Star" is one of these, released in 1995 for the Sega Genesis (in the final years of the console) Wanna know how this game was? Then just sit down there and enjoy this review... Ready? Here we go!

Story: In a very very far Galaxy... There's a Solar system, in where every kind of alien species live in peace and together. Under the protection of the "Legendary Hero" who has the mission of prevent the wars and invasions that the System could suffer. Everything has been going alright for various millenniums. Until one day, an Evil space pirate... Known as "Greedy" invaded the system, as part of his plan to conquer the entire Universe, the Hero tries to stop him. But he fails and gets defeated and Jailed. Everything seemed to be lost... But, Luckily, the inhabitants of Planet Flora, Invoked for a new hero... Before falling under the Greedy's control. Who answered this call? No other than the Son of the Legendary Hero: Ristar... Ristar is our only hope... Could he beat Greedy and bring Freedom to the Universe? Only you can answer that... (7/10)

Graphics: Let's start, as usual, with these... Graphics are impressively good, Just with looking at our main character is enough to know that... Backgrounds are full of details and color, and the Sprite Animation is quite good... Nothing amazing, but not bad... (9/10)

Sound: This is another of the game's strong points: the Music you hear thought the stage has a good quality... Also, it's pretty catchy. Besides that, thought the game you can hear remixes of the music that plays at the stages you must play. A good detail... SFX is a bit repetitive, you hear the same effects on every stage. Luckily, these aren't annoying. (8/10)

Addictiveness: This game is pretty addictive... His gameplay, Music, backgrounds and other details (Like the Bosses or puzzles) can make you want to play it one more time, at the start, it can be quite harder to control and quite confusing... But after some minutes this problem disappears. The simple and easy to learn control scheme helps a lot at this point. (8/10)

Depth: Okay, here's how you play: Ristar only haves two actions: Jump and stretch his arms, Our hero can't jump higher. But, thanks to the arms. We can do a few extra things, The most important: Attack, we can attack enemies with the arms. Just with pressing the button, Ristar will grab the enemy. And by pressing it again, He will nod his rival and will kill him... Besides that, we can use the Arms to climb certain walls or to pick up certain elements of the Background (Such as Health Points, extra lives, etc.) That's all you need to know. By using these techniques... You can find some good secrets... So, keep searching for them! (8/10)

Difficulty: Hard... Yep, this title also destaques because of the high difficulty... From the 2nd. Planet and to the rest of the game, The things start getting worse. Only a bit of practice can solve this. (8/10)

Final Rating: 9

As said, this game was Forgotten... Unfairly Forgotten. Just give it the chance and you will understand me, This game deserved more... Much more, the only thing we can do by now: Play it.
Now go, and do it!

I've played Ristar before. I own a PS3 repackage of it. Its really fun. Nice traditional 2D scroller with its basics. I like it.
