Final Fantasy Tactics is a Strategy RPG, produced by Square, a few years before they became Square Enix, and released January 28, 1998. It's a bit different than the other Final Fantasy games, though.

Whereas in the other games, you had turn based (Or, in everything released from FFVII on, Active Time Battle) combat against the enemies on one side and your little team on the other, Tactics involves more... tactics. You fight against an enemy squad on a 3D isometric field. You have to actually walk your characters up to the enemy to bash their skulls in, now.

It got it's own little series, getting a couple of sequels for the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS, as well as getting a remake for the PSP. It also has really great music, which you should listen to sometime.

However, this isn't Final Fantasy Tactics. This, my friends, is a mod for Final Fantasy Tactics, known as Celdia's Complete Patch. It's got the same plot, same characters, but almost everything else has changed. From the weapons, the classes, even the Chocobos.

This LP is going to be more about the things that have changed. Basically, everything that ISN'T story related. In other words, I'm not going to really go into the story all that much, but it'll be there.

Yes, I know, I've been showing this off in chat, and some of you know the other stuff that was added. I'd rather you didn't spoil that. Or the story. Some people might not have played this, y'know. And Acmlm board doesn't really have useful spoiler tags.

Without further ado, Let's Play!

Well, let's start a New Game, I guess.

Yeah, this is still the same.
So I'm just going to skip it.

So here we choose a name. The default is still Ramza, and I'll leave it like that for the first fight.

You also get to choose a birthday. This still affects your Star Sign, which still affects everything. For saying this changed so much, most of it so far looks the same, right?

I'll just set it as my birthday for now.

This would be a cool quote.. except my inner Grammar Nazi notes that the quote was never closed.

: "The guards have already arrived."

Suddenly, some guys barge in.

: "Don't be rude to the Princess, Gafgarion."

Rad looks.. Different. Even if you can't see it here.

Yeah, Rad's pallete is messed up. That's going to be a recurring thing with generics.

: "This is an urgent issue for us."
: "So there are rude knaves even among the Hokuten?"
: "I'm being more than kind to the guard captains here. Besides, we're mercenaries hired by the Hokuten. I'm not obliged to show respect to you."
: "What? How dare you!"

Okay, enough of this.

: "Go with God."
: "You too, Simon."

SUDDENLY!

A wounded Knight comes in. Yes, I know I said the classes were changed, I swear I wasn't lying.

: "Prince Goltana's men!?"

: "What, Ramza? You have a problem, too?"

: "...That's right. Well then, Let's go!"

And off to the first fight we go!

: “What's wrong with Prince Goltana!? He's such an idiot! Does he want to start a war!?”

: “Just give us the Princess, or that beautiful face of yours will be scared forever!”

: “Leave this to us!”

: “We can't make money that way. Rad! Ramza! Follow me!!”

FIGHT 0 – Orbonne Monastery
Music : Trisection

Yes, those guys just started floating. It will make sense.

: “Kill them all! Don't leave any survivors!”
: “Nonsense! There's no need to kill them! That's just what Goltana wants us to do! Just let them go.
: “That's impossible!”

So yeah, now Gafgarion's gonna go and... What?

Yeah, here's the first treat – You can control guest characters.

Of course, first, I'm gonna show off their stuff.

As you see, he has a couple of new tricks. They're not unique, though.

She's also got some tricks, which are also not unique. Split Punch doesn't even exist, and she doesn't get Lightning Stab. Her job tree is less impressive, but she actually has access to more jobs. I'll explain that later.

Ramza, on the other hand, get's a whole new class, just to himself!

It also has the best description.

Rad was going to get a custom class, so he could be a cool kid, too. But it caused everything to break, so he's a Squire Warrior.

Nobody else on our team really has anything worth mentioning.

Here we have NotBiggs...

And here's NotWedge!

Who actually, for some odd reason, has Weapon Guard. Bows don't give Weapon Evasion though.

And this guy who didn't get the memo about the team colors.

Gafgarion goes and Night Sword's NotWedge. Then the Alchemist goes.

This isn't too bad only because nobody on the field has any Fire spells, and Gaffy's abilities are undodgable.

As you can see, Stasis sword got an upgrade, which was cool of them.

This Knight Champion has Mystic Tools. This is the only ability she has, and it's rather weak.

The enemy Champion spends all of his MP on this. It raises an ally's Physical Attack by two. This would be a bother, if this guy actually tried using anything that used PA.

NotBiggs uses Updraft, an annoying ability. This doesn't bother Agrias too much, but poor Ramza can't do anything like this. The Alchemist also tosses some Grease on one of the Champions. WrongColor charges up and fires off Wild Zephyr. It deals damage to everyone in range 3 of the caster, and has a chance to confuse. Fortunately, it doesn't.

I think this is new. Originally, what Darkness did was cause the enemy's Evasion to double. He actually has no Accessory Evasion, which means that it NOW causes the hit rate to be cut in half. Meaning Darkness is actually useful.

Here's Dagger. The thing is, it's actually considered a Spell, despite the instant effect. I guess this is useful if you need to specifically do magic damage, but otherwise, it's just an extra menu. Rad and the blind Champion manage to almost finish him off.

Poor Ramza just sits there, while Agrias gets a perfect setup to finish the Nomad and weaken the Alchemist. The blind Champion gets shot and barely survives. Except...

Yeah, it triggered the small chance to cast (Not)Water, and finished her off.

NotWedge comes with the Engrave ability. I'll explain more later, but what's important is that it comes with an ability that can pretty much fully heal yourself and up to 7 allies. Yeah, it's kinda overpowered. Gafgarion finishes off the Alchemist before he can revive anybody, and the other Champion Dagger's one of the Nomads.

Oh goody, Agrias and Ramza can move. They get to keep Float for a while though.

Gotta make sacrifices for the team! Also, Stasis Sword's incantation. The enemy Champion finished off Rad, and Gafgarion finished off the last Nomad.

Sacrifices! He's actually trapped, at this point, and can only hit Ramza.

I let the Champion get the killing blow.

Uh oh.
: “Damn!!”

: “Why should I listen to you!?”
: “What an annoying Princess.”

I find it hilarious that she's still floating. How did she fit through the door?
: “Tough... Don't blame us. Blame yourself, or God.”
: “Oh, God.....”

: “You're alive, Delita? But, why are you in Goltana's troops? Why...?”

So, now it's time for some viewer input.

For one, Razma could use a different name. The only limitations are 14 characters and not something that could get either of us in trouble for posting it. Ramza also needs a birthdate. It affects his star signs.

The game does look a little different than the original, but I've talked with you extensively about this in chat so I don't have much to say. You should probably skip the less important dialogue and instead provide a brief summary of what happened. Otherwise you'll have pages of screenshots from small-talk.

I propose that if a plot event is different from the original in any way, show how it's different. If only graphics are altered, give one screenshot showing us how. If dialogue is altered, give us a transcript of what changed. Obviously keep the battles in no matter what, as long as the battle is new in some way. A new enemy, new skill, something along those lines.

Oh, and call him "No Hair Gel C.".

Sorry, Diem, but I liked Giga's better.

[10:48 PM] hypermonkey: Make the birthday 11/12/91.
[10:48 PM] hypermonkey: *11/13/91
[10:48 PM] silverthundr: There's no year option
[10:48 PM] hypermonkey: 11/13 then.

So yeah, the text here is all the same. Yes, even the "little money" line. Ugh.

Rebels potting rebellion! Who'da thunk it?

The chapters also still have the same names.

Kinda looks like a church without any pews.

Look at those lovely glitches. It only happens when they're in irregular positions, and it has to do with the pallette, I think.

There, all better.

Ahaha, our NotChemist looks like a Chemist now.

I don't know why the Hokuten has some Knights, despite the class no longer existing. They're actually Champions, but the sprite isn't correct.

Anyways, BATTLE TIME!

But first, our troops.

No Hair Gel C. has some nice gear. That vest is going to be passed around a bit, until I can get a second one.

Meh, nothing special. This is a Warrior, which replaces the Squire class from FFT. Yes, their action ability is Charge. Yes, that is exactly what you think it is.

Oh, here we go. Yeah, Warriors, which I will talk moree about at the end here, can equip Crossbows. A lot of classes can equip Crossbows. This is a good thing. Also, this guy has nice Brave and Faith, and comes with Swift Step. He's probably going to stay on after this fight.

Here we have a Butler. They replace Chemist for Males. He's.. not really equipped for combat. Meh.

Here's our lame Female Warrior. Yeah, nothing to see here.

Oh, yeah, Warriors can equip Heavy Armor. Too bad Heavy Armor sucks in this game . And her weapon is terrible, too.

See what I mean?

HERE we go. This is a Homemaker. They replace Chemist for Females. And she's got a frying pan. It's actually an Axe. Yeah, Butlers and Homemakers get Axes. And she actually has better power stats than the Butler. Brave and Faith are terrible, for sure, but Homemakers are better.

ONWARD!!!

This just looks silly with the Warrior mugshot.

Yeah, we control Delita here. He's gonna sit tight, and let them walk into range first.

He's a Squire. What.

He's a special Squire. He gets some of the abilities the Hero gets.

NHGC. Doesn't have his best Hero ability. Of course.

The Homemaker has this - It heals a little bit of HP and cures Sleep. I'd prefer Cafe Au Lait, which casts Haste on a single adjacent target or caster.

Yeah, it's as bad as it looks. Repeat this 3 times for the abilities for every Warrior on my team.

Swift Step. Meh.

The Brave and Faith are just awful. But this guy has an Axe. Damnit.

That's the worst equipment setup on the battlefield.

I stand corrected.

The knives don't scare me at all. As opposed to FFT, where their damage calculation included your Speed stat, these simply deal WP*PA damage, like Swords. 15 for the two Warriors, 9 for the Homemaker. The dude with the Sword does 20 damage, the best on the field. The Butler deals 18, because Axes are also simply WP*PA, as opposed to the random damage they did in FFT.

Charge +1. It's worth the 5 turn wait for the 4 extra damage.

My favorite line in Chapter 1.

Crossbows deal WP*WP damage, just like Guns.

Charge+1. Waiting 1 turn to attack? Worth it.

It's hard to see, but she got a Critical. 32 damage. Told you it'd be worth the wait.

Delita has this ability. Remeber this.
NHGC. goes over and smacks the Sword guy with his own sword. He survives with 1 HP.

I remembered to catch it this time. Warriors, Homemakers, and Butlers have Innate Walk-JP Up. 1 JP per step taken. They're still pretty bad jobs.
Yes, he has a floating pixel. No, I don't know why.

Oh, yeah, those Axes have a chance to inflict Sleep. Fun. Offscreen, the other Near-Death Warrior takes some revenge before running away.

Sugary Candy. It's pretty useful early on. It's also the only healing ability these guys have.

KILL THE MEDIC!

... Oops.

Critical for 24 damage. There's no kill like overkill.

Delita! Be useful!

It has the animation of Wish, but it doesn't drain from the user's HP. Also, it's instant, despite what the ability's description says.

Revenge is sweet.

This guy runs off. He's gonna get shot in the back, doing that.

These guys gang up on my female Warrior. She dies. Nobody cares. Except the guy who did it. He got a level up then ran off - is the AI trying to make my characters crystalize?

Snap. Headshot.

Oh, yeah, you can use Bandage on yourself. This is really useful early for pretty much the entire first Chapter.

Oh jeeze I got lucky here. All Crossbows have a chance to trigger Blastar Punch. That's the Mighty Sword skill that breaks armor. I told you that a bunch of classes with Crossbows would be a good thing.

All that's left is the sleeping Butler.

Serge was over on this side the entire battle. None of the enemies stayed on this side. Helping!

Delita! That's a tad overkill!
That's not a critical. He had a good alignment with the Butler. 36 damage in the first real fight, this bodes well.

...That's skimpy. At least I get 2000 from the War Trophies.

Ahaha. A frying pan and some healing items I can't even use yet.

Oh well, at least I have 6500 Gil so I can but out the shop.

Yeah, there's absolutely nothing of interest in the first shop.

Except more items I can't use yet.

Get out of my sight.

He's gonna be my fourth.

His name is Malcolm. That's a boring name. But we'll deal with it for now.

Here's our fifth. He won't be doing much in the story battles for a while.

Gelhardt. I kinda like it, but we can change it later, as well.

http://puu.sh/ziZg'>

Oh, yeah, about changing names. In FFT, you were only allowed to change the names of Monsters...

As shown by the message he says when you choose it. However, in CCP...

You can change the name of anyone, including the Hero and Guests.

Yup.

Damnit, NHGC., why didn't you have this already?

And here's Tend Wound, probably the second best ability in the Hero skillset, if only because Bandage heals for so much.

Next time - Mandalia Plains.

Oh, hey, if you guys want to name our troops, give me some suggestions. You can even name Delita if you want.

Right, time to explain these fancy new classes you're seeing in CCP.

Warrior

These are the base physical classes. They're pretty lame, except for the Move-JP Up. They replace the Squire in application, too.

Action Ability - Charge
Charge is a pretty lame ability. The good part about it being on the Warrior, though, is that you can quickly distance yourself from it. Charge has abilities that spread from Charge +1 to Charge +20 - Specifically, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, and 20. They increas damage by adding +x to the Attack multiplier, x being the number of the Charge. Charge +20 with a Sabre on a Warrior with 5 PA will do 100 damage [4*(5+20)]. The only good skill that a Warrior has is Speed Save, which has a Brave% chance to boost Speed by 1 when you take damage.

These numbers have to do with stats. The 'G's are growth, and you want a lower number. The 'M's are multiplier, and you want a higher number. Warriors have pretty average HP Growth and Multiplier. They have absolutely no MP multiplier, so they'll never have anything other than 1. Speed is average, Physical Attack is a bit less than average, and MA is just plain terrible. You really don't want to be a Warrior any longer than you have to be - If you really want Speed Save, you're better off getting spillover JP from special classes.

Equipment they can use - pretty straight forward. There's absolutely nothing special, except for the aility to use Heavy Armor or Light Armor, which is pretty pointless, as Heavy Armor isn't that good here.

Butler and Homemaker.

Butler is the male half of the magic default class. Their abilities are a tad situational for my tastes, but I guess they could be of use. Homemaker is the female side, and their abilities are much more useful, especially early on.

Action Ability - Service
As I said, Service is somewhat situational. It has the best ability for canceling an enemy's charge, and it has an ability that adds Immunity, albeit only until their next turn. Perfect Timing could be useful, but 500 JP in this class is a stretch, as well as the 36 MP to cast it. The best ability is sitting there are the bottom - Swift Step, also known as Move +1. Yeah, it's a male only ability, which can be a pain early on. The good news is that Move +3 and Jump +3 are NOT gender restricted.

Action Ability - Housecraft
Housecraft has the first healing ability for generics, which in and of itself is great, even if it's only for a little bit of HP. A cheap, 100% Haste for 5 MP is also helpful. I personally haven't used Boil, but I hear it's glitched and doesn't actually have a persistent effect. The real important ability here is Spring Cleaning, and you'll see why a few updates from now. Not having Move +1 hurts, but the action abilities make up for it, in my opinion.

Their stat growths are exactly the same, yet somehow, the females manage to get the better end of it, because their PA will match the males while their MA is 1 higher for gender bonus. Their health is lame, their MP has a nice growth, only short of the mage classes. Speed is average. Only one class has worse PA growth, while nobody else has better MA growth.

The only difference here is the Perfume, which only girls can wear. Ribbons are conspiciously missing, which will be relevant later. Bags no longer exist, and you can take that as you will.
