Would you play a game where you control a single ant who leads an army of ants for total dominance in the yard? Sim ant is that very game! In this game you lead your army of ants to combat the ferocious red ants. Classic racist game of black vs red, just kidding. There isn't too many details to get into with this game because it is really simple, so this review may be rather short.

Overall: 6
The game has very few complexities and it's really full of repetitive death. If it's not the spider, it's the lawn mower, foot or red ant on a kamikaze mission to kill JUST YOU. Considering the game has been played 17,000 times, it is slightly popular despite some of it's simplicity. Although it lacks just about everything, it can be entertaining I you're bored and searching for something to do. Personally, I remember this game from my childhood. Even now I ask myself "Why did my parents purchase this game in the first place? It's a random game about ants???" and I still have no answer. Overall, it isn't a horrible game.

Graphics: 5
These graphics are what you would expect in the early 90s. They're not horrible, but don't expect anyone from a newer generation to have the desire to pick a game like this up, mostly because of the graphics. As I reflect, they do stand out as weak. This is nothing like the Super Mario Bros 3 even on the NES or the Super Mario World. I question whether or not there were more than 5 different people back then capable of producing higher quality graphics with what they have. Sadly, this game had the potential to look and feel much better.

Sound: 4
Annoying. You are repeatedly moving your yellow ant around and around and around and sometimes with no other sounds. You might hear a lawn mower go off in the distance and the resident do a half-(insert swear word here)ed quick job on the lawn where your ant is now sprinting for it's life (population control) and generally, you die again and again and again. To top this, when you are at war with the Red colony sometimes you will get into fight after fight after fight. It's consistent annoyance after annoyance. Music from your stereo or MP3 player is highly suggested.

Addictiveness: 8
Ok, this is the one thing really going for this game; It can be addictive. Once, I thought killing the red queen ant (before making nest) at the start of my game would make my game more fun! and in a way... it did... Depending on what you do, you can utilize some of the repetitive qualities and use them to your advantage. If you're just simply bored and want a long game of warring ants, let the red ants repopulate the entire yard so your colony is at constant war. I'm a strategy/war seeker, so I've done this! The game can also get on your nerves.

Story: 1
Once upon a time, in a land far away, there stood 1 lone yellow ant in a yard with 2 red ants. This yellow breeder knew she (assuming the yellow ant would ultimately become a queen ant) was outmatched so she buried herself deep into the underground and began to reproduce asexually. Many offspring sprung forth and the demonic-like yellow ant possessed a male worker ant. This begins the story of a legend. Ok so maybe there might be a little story... so 1.5?

There are several options that are somewhat unique in this game. The first option is that this is an educational video game that tries to teach you ants. You can, on the main menu, select one of the things to learn about ants. More specifically to the game play, you can access options like the caste system where you change which ant type are produced the most. You can, basically, do the same thing with the behavior option and choose which tasks ants focus on more. The most unique feature is the scent ants leave behind with scavenging for food. When this is on, you can just stroll too and from the food source to your colony and ants can follow it. When it rains ants end up getting cut off and lost running non stop circles if left alone. Some things like this make the in-depth quality of the game drop...

Difficulty: 6
Depending on what you do, you can make the game relatively easy or really hard. You might not understand why you're fighting the same exact ant 20 times but you are! Most of the time you will die, in fact you're expected to die countless times and for any ridiculous reason. I'm just surprised the number of predators to look out for is small.

In the end there isn't much to say. The game can be a little strategic and always the same thing over and over again. There isn't much you can do to add some flare to the game, but you may enjoy it and I do recommend playing it despite it's low rating I gave it.
