Ive just had on Browser Quest, a simple RPG showcasing some of HTML5's capabilities.  Heres a quick summary from Engadget.com ..

"Mozilla is flexing its HTML5 muscles today, with a new game called BrowserQuest. Designed specifically for browser-based gaming, BrowserQuest brands itself as a "tribute to classic video games with a multiplayer twist." The game's plot is relatively routine -- warriors, hidden treasure, etc. -- but what's most interesting is its underlying architecture. Its 2D tile graphics engine is powered by HTML5 Canvas, with browser-to-server communications handled by WebSockets. Sound effects, meanwhile, are powered by HTML5 audio APIs, and each player's progress is saved using localStorage. The game also supports lots of simultaneous players, thanks to a Javascript-coded backend that runs on Node.js. You can keep track of the player load in real-time at the Browser Quest Dashboard "

The aim of the game is to earn all 20 trophies.  There is no upgrading tables, simply new weapons/armour are dropped from enemies, the harder the enemy.. the more powerfull loot.  Players can chat to other players simply by pressing the enter button to enter text.

I just played the game for no more than 20-25 minutes and completed all 20 trophies, and whilst that may not be a long time.. its free.. and browser based.  Im definately looking forward to what else is produced in HTML5.

EDIT: There are some simple hacks available aswell if you finish it and get bored.
