Just a quick update for now. The newest update for the game should be getting released soon, and there's a lot being added. As far as I know, the price won't be going up either ($7.99). As for what's being added, I'll try to link to screenshots to as much as I possibly can, and I'll stick to quick descr
iptions, because there's a lot being added.
The first thing you'll notice if you've played some of the previous builds of the game, is the
new lighting engine. With this new lighting engine, they've added new quality options. High and medium each use this new engine, while low uses the old one. They've also added in some
lamp posts and a flash light to help the player see while it's dark out. Of course, it requires batteries to keep the flashlight lit, and after about a month the power in the city goes out. That means if you survive long enough, you're gonna need a massive supply of batteries.
Another addition to the game is
the ability to interact with NPCs. These NPCs are still a work in progress, and are somewhat lacking in terms of their AI, but they still add a fair amount to the game.
The next big update to the game is the
ability to upgrade skills. These work pretty much as you'd expect them to. You can only upgrade one skill each time, and you upgrade them by sleeping when it tells you to rest and meditate on what you've learned (just like in Oblivion). In order to upgrade any of your skills, you have to work on them. So you cannot upgrade your running ability by sitting around and cooking.
A few simple additions that they've made: save on quit (your save file is deleted if you die), larger map cells (bigger areas), additional map cells (multiple areas that you can move between, requires a loading screen), the ability to cut down trees to get wood, carpentry, requiring water to avoid dying of thirst, a lower carrying capacity, the ability to push furniture and other objects (such as a
bin which can store items), and
carpentry. In that last one, the player made everything within the walls that aren't made out of bricks.
That's everything I can think of right now, and I'm sure that I'm forgetting something. I wanted to wait until the update was released to post this, but it seems like that could take a while longer and I wanted to write it up while I had the time. There are also a few things I want to note. First, you can play the public test release of the update now if you've bought the full version. You have to download it from their forums, though, as the official release hasn't been updated yet. Also, contrary to what I said before, I'll leave this thread wide open. Anyone can feel free to comment on anything that I post in here, or make a thread if they think it's necessary.
Sorry for rambling on, but there was quite a bit to mention. And there are a lot more fantastic screenshots that I can get, so let me know if you want to see more.
