An increasingly popular form of online game is the one where the player performs a few tasks, and they complete in real time. For instance, you build a few buildings and leave the computer for them to build. These types of games are excellent for people who don't want to devote hours upon hours trying to level up a character...the only downside is that these are the types of games that micro-management is most prevalent in, so that may offset some players. As well, these games are not going to hold many people who prefers single player experiences, as a lot of the heart is in the clans that are created. To those who are not concerned by either factor..this thread is dedicated to finding those games and giving an evaluation of them.
The way the list would be built is submitting a game and if it is generally agreed on to be a good game, or I find a special interest in it, I'll list it here in alphabetical order.
The West
This one is slightly unique because it follows the real time formula yet you still build an individual character. The basic idea is that the player is out in the wild west and they got to survive/build their skills. Over time the player can accept more quests, do more jobs, and wield more powerful items. This game is very heavily team based, as towns and forts can be built. As is usual for the genre, the strongest towns are created early on, and only the aggressive ones usually survives the struggle to the top. There is a code of honor based on classes (no attacking unarmed workers for instance) and the community is generally strong. This game held me for close to a year, which says a lot about how much I liked it...perhaps a part of the reason is because the tasks didn't grow to be exponentially longer as you grew stronger, except perhaps town development. I recommend giving this game a shot.
