I always wondered what PETA thought of klondyke bars or animal crackers. I'm pretty sure they like them cause I have not seen them protest those yet.

I don't like PETA. At all, really. So please do not take this as defending them, because I am not.

But I have an honest question. Why do people get outraged when dogs and cats are killed, but not pigs or cows? All of the above species are capable of expressing emotion, affection, and experiencing suffering. PETA kills companion animals by euthanizing them. Animals in a slaughterhouse are not so lucky (not even close). Both practices are completely unnecessary. So, what is the difference? Why are you only outraged about one, but not the other? Personally I hate both.

Annette : It's not that I support one or the other, I personally would not want to participate in either. I wouldn't want to kill cows or pigs just as much as I wouldn't want to euthanize a pet. It's just that PETA full blown advertises their family friendly values about peace and love for all animals, but they keep their kill-count on the down-low. I'm fairly certain that most of their members either don't know PETA does this, or they refuse to acknowledge it. You can't pick and choose facts to believe. PETA protests animal cruelty, while simultaneously killing off perfectly healthy pets. At least the slaughterhouses don't pretend to be nice.

Sephitard9001 : Yep- I have discussed this with PETA supporters/members before, and all of them were clueless about it. It's largely because they don't know at all. I think it is such a huge shame that this organization makes animal rights activists look like psychos.

I would say that I have a neutral opinion about PETA as I think they have good intentions but I don't agree with many of the things I have heard about the organization.  I hadn't heard about them killing thousands of animals before so this is news to me.  Without a doubt killing animals is both horrible and tragic but PETA may be left with little choice.  If it is a matter of the animals suffering by not being fed than I personally think they are better off being euthanized.

However this makes me ask more questions. Why would PETA obtain all of these animals if they couldn't afford to maintain them? It seems counter productive to their cause , I know I wouldn't get a pet if I couldn't afford to feed it.
Would these animals have been better off if they continued to live their life prior to PETA's intervention? Maybe they would be better off released into the wild to fend for themselves?

I am curious to find out what others think would be a solution to this problem.

Annette : That's mostly because of the media attention. The news frequently focuses on negative events, which is why when people think about activists in general, they picture violent mobs. That's what ruined the concept of gangs; news coverage on gunfights, thefts, and drug dealing which ruined the experience for regular, non-violent "crews".

I've never liked PETA. They say they're "ethical", but they aren't. They would prefer animals die than actually try to save them. They just say that they're using their funds to help animals, but they're just paying to keep it an organization and giving the leftovers to themselves. Then they just kill the animals and probably sell them to be packaged into food. They might as well rename themselves to People Eating Tasty Animals.
