We all know the CoD DLC packs can be expensive, but I'm not a CoD player, so I can't say much on that one. I can say how some DLC just is too expensive. For those of us who are fans of the stuff Bethesda releases, and also own a PS3, we probably know how much Oblivion's expansion pack The Shivering Isles is. For those who don't care or whatever, that expansion pack is $29.99 on PSN. That isn't horrible for what it is, but look at one of the expansions for Fallout 3. Broken Steel, a fairly big expansion for Fallout 3 is about $9.99 on PSN.

Broken Steel adds little compared to The Shivering Isles, but Fallout 3 is more about exploring a barren wasteland. That expansion that I said is big for this game? It adds 10 extra levels to the level cap, new trophies, a few more areas, more enemies, another main quest that I probably know can't be completed on my PS3 because the game froze during the quest you get after Shock Value.... It also adds a few extra items, and even a few more weapons. There's even plenty of added side quests, and it allows you to continue on the same playthrough after beating the first main questline.

I'm not a huge DLC user, and I actually prefer to deal with Bethesda's DLC if I even bother with DLC. I don't hate DLC, though. I love it. It gives the devs a chance to fix stuff, and even add more to a game. That's awesome.

The problem here is how pricey it can get on consoles, and how some of it is pointless. I have the one DLC add-on for inFAMOUS, and it's nearly useless to me. I tried using that power the DLC add-on gave, and it doesn't do much that a simple blast of electricity could do. At least that one was free. Then there's all the free DLC for Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires.

That DLC doesn't add much, but man do I love running around dressed like a lion. Those were obviously just for the sake of having more armor choices and some more music.

It seems what I'm choosing to buy is examples of smart shopping, but then I'm thinking, "Isn't a Fallout 3 add-on that just adds one questline a bit overpriced?" I'm talking about the ones that aren't Broken Steel. I refuse to download those, myself, just because I don't need radscorpions being the most cuddly thing in the game compared to bugs some add-ons might add.

What's your take on this? Any comments on how I'm an idiot for not talking about CoD much? Haha. That joke aside, seriously, what's your take on this?

Youre an idiot for not talking about cod much.
Kiding =p
I think dlc is overpriced, especialy cod,i mean for a zombie map pack they wanted like £8,like £20 for the 3.
Why the hell would i spend half the price of the game on 3 maps?id sooner buy another game.
Some games arent so bad,i liked the bioshock 1 add ons,and the dynasty warriors 6 ones are all free.
Then theres avatars where they want like £1 for 3,its just a little picture, its not wort half of that.
Plus they never update the dlc prices, equaly dumb.

thenumberone : Holy... I don't even think it'd cost 20 Euros to touch Noah's Ark or get into a petting zoo that lets you pet lion cubs. Heck, that map pack better have some awesome stuff like dragon SS soldiers, and guns that shoot pennies and yen filled with tiny iron maidens that stab toes off, or those 20 Euros are better for saving up for Dead Island or better yet, getting a blacksmith to make you an iron VHS big box style protector box for your favorite game box.

I know, I would turn CoD into a drug trip full of strange if I was in charge of the designs...

Eh, I never worry about the prices of DLC.

I generally keep in mind I save about 10 dollars on my games through various methods, and I can use that 10 dollars on the stuff they SHOULD HAVE JUST PUT IN THE GAME.

Some DLC can be a bit crazy.. (I'm looking at you CoD), and some is actually free. (I like free)

I usually wait till a game is old to get DLC for it, it's usually really reduced or even free once it reaches a certain age.

It depends on what the DLC is if it is a big addition like adding another story to the game like red dead then sure but most likely not

Well, it depends on the game itself, as well as content. For example, I wouldn't buy new maps for a shooter, but I'd probably buy a story pack for an RPG. I also think it depends on the gamer themselves, and what their style is.

Of course they are. $15 dollars for 4 maps in Black Ops, or $10 for Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption? The choice is clear, but still, some games go way to far. Super Street Fighter IV has an add-on that gives you two characters for $15. Just two. And they're just different renditions of current characters! Evil Ryu as opposed to Ryu, and Oni as opposed to Akuma/Gouki. I know it sounds cheap, but $1 for a different weapon in inFAMOUS 2? Not even a weapon, a weapon skin! It changes nothing but the appearance of the weapon. In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, I got a whole free single-player side-quest line just because I got the PS3 version. Plus two or three FREE multiplayer update kits that add new maps and personas. But I'm charged a buck for a freakin' weapon swap in inFAMOUS?!

And Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has the nerve to charge money for characters that could've been in the original release?! And what's this? After I buy the game, they plan on releasing Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 with 12 new characters for $40?! Let's say you bought the original. $60 bucks for 38 characters, that's around $1.50 per character. Now see here, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is selling for retail ONLY. That's a whole new disc for $40, you can't purchase it digitally to add-on to MvC3 for $15. So let's see here, you spent $60 for 38 characters, but now you're spending $40 on only 12?! That's a little over $3 per character! Talk about a friggin rip-off

thenumberone : Really? In my experience DLC devoutly remains at fixed prices, even if the game gets cheaper. Puzzle Quest for the Xbox has fallen from 1200 MSP to 800, but it's DLC is still 700 (meaning the add-on is almost the price of the game!!!). Sometimes you can get game of the year editions with DLC already added, but normally DLC prices don't change, even if the game falls to the  under $10 range.

I do think that most DLC's cost too much, but the only DLC I've actually bought is the Rockstar Pass for LA Noire, which is a great deal (all the DLC cases and two suits for like $12, it would normally cost you around $20)

But I would've probably paid that much for those cases anyway...

Anyway, for most games I do think that DLC costs too much (As everyone else said, the CoD DLC are a little overpriced, but if you love the game enough that you are willing to pay that for it, then go for it.)
