Are Final Fantasy's getting too complicated that people lose interest in them? or is it that they get too long.

I think Final Fantasy 12 was too complicated and long...I dunno. I just didn't have as much interest in it. There was something about the old ones that made them fun, like simple and quick to the story. I don't know....what do you guys think?

Hard to say.
I dont have as much time anymore to play video games, when I was playing FF7, I was basicly doing nothing else with my life, so I could get right into it. Now, I'd have to play to the next save, save, then go do something else.

FF8 was reasonably long, but it did have a little bit more to do in it.

I guess the games kinda do get long.. But it all depends how much your willing to play it.

I remember some game I used to play-- Dragon Quest VIII, was over 100 hours.. I don't have enough time for that. Basically, RPGs are getting way too long in general, not just the Final Fantasy Series.

FFVIII was long as, espicially if your getting EVERYTHING... i know i didnt waste my time that long on it.... JEs finished it... got some final weapons ect ect...

The quests in FFXII were ridiculous. 45?! That's like a whole other game packed in there!

I agree, FFXII was complicated, I lost interest because the story line is kind of sloppy...

FFXII is great fun but don't expect a big story going on there. In fact, don't expect a story at all I know about the Nethecite but everything seemed just like an online game questing marathon.

Things you must know about square enix's formula:

Gameplay over Story
or
Story over Gameplay
or
Story and gameplay equal but sometimes unbalanced.

I dunno, I really like all the compications. FF10 was really complicated and I literally sta there for hours on end playing it. I thinks its interested and the story was really in depth. Same goes for FF12

I think is some interview with the development team (from some final fantasy xii bonus disk, I don't remember correctly), the team mentioned that the production gives them as much freedom as they want when it comes to develop a new final fantasy title. So in final fantasy xii they really took this opportunity to make something that could make the final fantasy series move a step further.

Personally I find that this was partially done. Because it indeed became a little more complex. Though I think it actually has to do with having a somewhat slower "getting-into-the-world" feeling and a, hmm, larger (or could it be slower?) learning factor. Also, the size of the environment was much larger as well, so that could contribute to the idea of getting "complex".

I think final fantasy can come into being a much more debated title than final fantasy x-2 for some reason.

Oh, I also have to agree with BigBob85 about the time comment. Same situation here as well, in the past(when I was younger) not many things could keep you far from gaming, playing the game you liked for almost as long as you liked (getting scolded also has sentimental value I guess nowadays ).

Games are not necessarily larger. I think it's more or less the same size. Though for example you could play dark chronicle on playstation 2, which surely can keep you around for 100 hours, or elder scrolls : oblivion. Or in the final fantasy case, final fantasy 8, 9, 10. Which I consider to be the largest if someone wants to get 100% out of them.

Well, one thing I'd like to mention though, that I find really important in development, it's the fun factor. Which is also the thing I think final fantasy xii lacked the most (at least when it comes to my taste).

Dragon Quest VIII and FF XII are amazing games. FF XII does have a pretty good story, not sure what iBock is talking about..... Maybe he doesn't like how the story is focused differently.

I love the political views of the story, and it is played out good; however when you play it the first time most of the story elements slide through the cracks. I like the game but I guess I wanted at least SOME kind of romance in it to spice it up; the characters were sometimes emotionally bland.

Yeah, Dragon Quest VIII was really good and FFXII was really good, it's just there are so many things to do outside of the story, you get caught up in them then totally lose sight of the story and get bored of it. I like the dialogs in the game, they did a really nice job with that. Perfect english, very impressive.

i personally love The Final Fantasy Series and i believe that Rpgs are getting to long but final fantasy for me no matter how long keep on my feet wanting more

RPG's are always like that. Its alot of work, and you feel it pays off in the end.
I prefer them because not only does the game get harder, but you get stronger, and it becomes even more challenging, because you get so many choices in the end, and only a select few will work. It takes alot of strategy too..

I really fell in love with final fantasy....that is until it got to game 8. After game 8 , it seems like they just want to put out new final fantasy games for money.

I liked the series but now the stories are too long,boring,and complicated.

I never beat 8, but i got far enough to know what was happening. It was really too complicated, but i still liked it.
9 and 10 were also very good, so i don't know what your talking about.
i still have yet to play 12..

Well I like the long and interesting stories as they keep me playing them for quite
a while and they don't make me bored of them because there just keeps being
more to do in the games.

this might sound stupid but maybe its becuase were getting older. when i was young 1st time i played on ff7 i was hooked on it and thanks to that i wanted the other final fantasy before 7 and after 7. as u get older just dont seem to be that interested anymore i could be talking rubbish but who knows

it make sense. for example: i use to be able to play pokemon none stop all the way through, well ok. stop atleast once or twice, but now after beating the first couple of gyms i just kind of quit right away. i get bored.
