You can lose trust points if someone rates you down, so yes it's good to have more. Besides, if someone sees your profile and sees you have a large number of points, then it obviously shows you are a well matured and contributing member to the site. =]

The best way is to not ask, for one obviously. People will do the opposite and simply take them away from you. And yes, you can get negative trust points.

Other then that, the best way is just contribute to the site. Simply post, help people who may need help, and merely contribute to the community as a mature member. Good behavior grants lovely rewards and sooner or later you will get 5 trust points for just being an enjoyable person to hang around with.

I agree, what's the point of giving 0 trust point's when nothing will change anyway? It might mean that you are in the middle of getting Trust Points and not getting Trust Points... probably not.
