One of the first reviews made by yours truly, Snowdeath. Today, we'll be reviewing on the SNES game, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past.
At first glance of the game, it might be boring, or maybe seems to be easy, but I assure you, this is not true. It's one of the better ones, if you ask me. As most of the Legend of Zelda fans knows, there's two kinds of Link to the Past. One, the original, is on SNES. The other, slightly graphically modified, on the Game Boy Color. This one, I'll be rating for SNES, and therefore directly compared to other SNES games, not other console games.
Graphics - 9
The graphics on Link to the Past are extremely well-made and gives the game the atmosphere of originality and its own special kind of charm. Gamers of all consoles will appreciates this kind of 'old-time' graphics, as it reminds them "in the past". It simply just boosts the game already-good charm.
Sound - BLANK
Addictiveness - 10
I give it a booming high 10 because I definitively would come back and play it again, and over again. It never gets tiring, you always tend to find new items until there's none left, and yet, you still want to play more! That's what I feel. This is one of the few games you can get addicted to for hours and hours until you beat the final boss... Then you power down, and resume playing a new start!
Story - 8
The storyline is very basic, and like I said, it honestly just adds up to the charm. It has the basic version of slaying the dragon, and saving the princess storyline, only you can see that it's actually a bit more complex than that, but even a first-timer could easily understand and it adds up in the end. Even if you've played several times, you'll never get tired of that haunted whisper from Princess Zelda in the start, and the bloodthirsty scream of Ganon in the end.
Depth - 8
It can be challenging for a first-time player to beat this game, since the puzzles in it can be confusing, and you can even be stuck, wondering where to go for the next pendant, or just struggling with a boss. I can say this; Once you beat the game, the depth can still be challenging because of your hard bosses, and maybe you forgot how to do a puzzle, etc. Nevertheless, really good and healthy depth for a SNES game!
Difficulty - 7
I find it to be slightly long, and it can be hard in some parts in the game, even if the controls are very easy to learn and get used to. I just feel that a 7 is perfect for this, because it's not too easy, not way too hard, it has the perfect level of difficulty in this kind of game for me.
Overall - 9.3
I give it a 9.3 because of its originality, and its charm, and the fun I had playing it over and over again. I can really see the perfection of its own in Link of the Past. It stands out from any other SNES games because if I played it without seeing the console, I'd think it was from a better console. It's a great game for even a kid or a older adult, because not of the style, because of its gameplay.
I strongly feel that it is a perfect game itself, of its kind, and it's great for everyone because it's a timeless masterpiece.
