I used to read a lot, but at some point in school I stopped because it was such a beating to have to read everything the teachers wanted you to and then try to read for fun.  In sixth or seventh, I averaged several thousand pages a year for our reading program, but after that it was nothing but textbooks.  Even now I don't read all that much.  When I do read, though, I go for books from the Wheel of Time series and the Dragonlance series.

I enjoy reading fiction, and have always had a book "on the go" since I was very small. I generally stick to fantasy (Lord Of The Rings, Dune, Discworld) but have a reasonable collection of horror (Stephen King) too. 
A good book can create just as much atmosphere and emotion as any film or game; I was disheartened the other day to hear on the news that the percentage of children in the UK that own books had gone down over recent years. A sign of the times, perhaps, but I would encourage anyone who has never picked up a novel to try one.

I used to love reading books. Now I don't really have time to read them that often between work and other activities, I just don't have as much time.
