Lets look at Nintendo:
Beyond a few key titles for most people who have encountered both, either owning them or just playing them, they have the least value to someone for long run entertainment, where as other consoles that are being listed had TONS of entertainment value, and could do things besides just games.
Nintendo has limited themselves for three generations of consoles now, to mostly first part development being the major backing on their consoles, and this is why they lack content. Nintendo was also VERY against having certain key titles that pretty much sold console gaming on a whole for years to come, passing on such titles on Grand Theft Auto 3 per example, was a VERY big mistake. From a business standpoint it's smart to have a key demographic of gamers and supply to them, but I know that even a thirteen year old really doesn't give two craps about Pokemon or anything as such, and Mario's nostalgic value is steadily dropping nowadays too, so that doesn't help, more so on the fact that you can spray the whole ideal about "entertainment" being non-regulated to genre or game rating, but it's the M rated games that sell the best nowadays, and this is a simple fact Nintendo has overlooked for a VERY long time.
Even now, while they got passed this roadblock of mature content being filtered to provide the "Famicom family image" from decades ago, they still have YET to meet the demand of a whole lot of gamers, who abandoned that entire brand in light of Sony or Microsoft, who constantly deliever next gen gaming, and while it costs more, the price you pay is evident of what you get.
With the Wii you get last gen graphics that you can pretend are next gen. With the Gamecube the excuse was pretty piss poor though, as noted many times it was MORE POWERFUL then the PS2, yet underperformed to said console at almost all turns, and the GC's exclusives, the reason it sold so much at one point, landed firmly on Sony's console, which had far more value in terms of a massive library of games, and lifespan far exceeding most consoles. The PS2 is still alive in fact, which shows that while dated, it still delievers. The GameCube was abandoned before either the Xbox or PS2, and again- it shows in what was available for it after a while.
The only reason people won't admit Nintendo's constant blunders, which paved the way for MS to take over the console market no less, is because they are driven by nostalgia. Once you drop the keen act and accept that the Wii has nothing "next gen" on it, the GC was flawed, and even the N64 was lacking in a serious way, you start to realize that the most overrated console heritage comes from Nintendo, who only survive to this very day on sales of gimmicks and re-releases, and their hand held systems.
On a whole however, both Sony and Microsoft have advanced the game, each in their own way, and proved that Nintendo's inability to adapt, is now their current failing point. Nintendo however, seems evidently redundent in accepting this, attempting in very poor ways to advance the Wii along, when if you are smart enough to spot it already, you'd know that console failed miserably-
That and the simply fact that while sales mean business = dollars to provide income, it also is something frown on. Do you want the console that sells the best, or the one which offers you the most gaming bang for your buck?
If you answered "Most sales" then you need to put against the wall and shot, because you are a key problem, and the reason Nintendo sold an underwhelming product to the masses.
As for PS3: considering the console has barely begun to show what it can do, and already houses some of the most next gen gaming on the market, with slick exclusives that force MS to buy up anything and everything, just to claim it has the most content, where MS is providing quite an experience...albeit on borrowed time, as their console has possibly the worst failure rate in the history of console gaming. That and where the 360 is showing age, the PS3 is still underused, and developers only now are taking what it can do into effect. This is why INFamous is being raved about already, because it simply does things the 360 can't handle, and essentially renders games so impressive at one point, like Crackdown, as dated and archaic. More so, take a good look at games like Little Big Planet, which have over 6K people playing or making content for at any given time, to see what a top exclusive should be. Then note that you aren't forced to pay a fee to enjoy this. Once you're done with that, take into account that older PS3 exclusives like Resistance 2 are in fact holding more players then any servers on the XBL network. R2 matches can hold up to SIXTY players, and unlike the current crowned champ Halo 3, there is NO LAG or random disconnect nonsense.
That and on a whole, gaming is somewhat overrated to begin with. You are essentially barking about either nostalgia vs next gen, graphics vs gameplay, or relevant vs irrelevant, and in the end?
What's the point? Everyone here already made their bed with one of the three consoles, and in some cases, some people seem like they aren't applied to a metaphor, but actually looking to have sex with some machine that upon further appearance, doesn't hold even the slightest in the way to a nicely made PC, a platform that was around before consoles, and will exist far after they are gone.
Though I still recall my friend Scott telling me Perfect Dark would be more amazing then Unreal Tournament. Boy did he feel stupid.
Though having said all that about Nintendo, I'll say it here-
Goldeneye, Smash Bros.
These are two of the greatest party games of all time, due to the greatest MP experiences to be had. It is a shame however, Nintendo can't make this magic happen once again.
Still again- Wii is the most overrated, PS3 most underrated, and as for current leading console?
I mean come on, only an idiot can't admit the 360 totally dominates the console gamer market. I don't like the thing after 2+ RRoD, but I'm not going to lie or claim it's overrated simply because MS kicked both Nintendo and Sony's butts this time around the bend, because simply put-
They did.
Proof of this is in how that console sells like no tommorow despite it's horrible failure rate and pay to play online service. Despite two major throwbacks that neither PS3 or Wii have, the 360 holds the dominate foot over gamers far and wide, with only a handful of games NOT landing on it's platform, and even then, XBLA is yet another force to be reckoned with, housing some of the most sickly addictive games to date that are EXCLUSIVE once again, to the 360 brand.
I guess I should end it at there. Lets look at Nintendo:
