So who has played FFXIII? I did, I was not too pleased. The story was kind of a mess, and it didn't seem that it was that long of a game. The characters had only a tiny bit of development, in which they all ended up being at the same celebration at once, but it never really went deeper into that (aside from all the readings). All in all I was not the biggest fan.

Also; do you think they should actually make this FFXIII-2? I don't know if it was sequel compatible.

I've never been a fan of FF, so I don't know much about it, sorry

By the way, this thread would fit more to "Video Game Franchises -- Final Fantasy" forum.

I must say, my personal opinion, is that the game was poor at best. I was less than impressed, as a massive Final Fantasy fan myself, I hated the game so much I didn't play a full run through. So I cannot comment on whether there should be a sequel or not, but I'll give my two penneth anyway.

The levelling/upgrading/whatever system was a worse, downgraded but slighty changed version of the (FF10) Sphere grid. I wasn't a fan of the classes system. Nor did I like battling. Final Fantasy is/was all about the turn based strategy, if I wanted to spam Auto-attack all day I'd play - umm - Tekken or something and button mash the attack buttons!

The storyline was TOO linear during the first part of the game (until you got a little more freedom). I know all Final Fantasys are linear, but 12 and 13 seemed more so.

Only thing I would thumbs up, is the graphics, but I'd say all Final Fantasy's have been known for their great cut-scene graphics and stuff.

Long story short: I thumbs down.

(For the record, my favourite FF game is 8, then 10)

I admit, I can like just about anything - FFXIII is no different. Yes, the storyline was kind of confusing as hell here and there, but I still liked it. The battle system and the classes were different, yes, but as safe as we feel with something we remember and love all the way from the first game, there's really nothing wrong with trying something new. I think the classes/paradigms made for a little bit of strategic thinking...

I agree with the lack of character development, though. It wasn't the best, but at least there was still a little bit...

The graphics were amazing, and although Uematsu wasn't the composer, I liked the music as well... although I did miss the victory theme after battles.

It felt like walking down a straight path pressing the same button for 13 hours. Did not care for such monotony, and it's really put me off playing any more FF games.

RocketsMcGuire : Oh don't say that. The earlier ones are great (other than XII). But X-2 and earlier are great! I would at least attempt them. I'm currently playing FF9 for the umteenth time lol.

Well FFXIII was the first Final Fantasy I have played and I loved it. It was rather repetitive with the battling but the graphics were awesome and the character development was pretty good.

I've heard VII is the best though. But I've never played it so I might give it a go if I can get my hands on it. (:

Final Fantasy XIII is by far the worst game in the series. Half the party was unlikeable (and of the decent half, Zazh was the only one anyone could relate to), the story mostly consisted of them meandering around asking themselves "What are we supposed to do?", and the level design was atrocious until Gran Pulse, which took far to long to get too. The only thing good about this game are the graphics, but frankly that's about all Square is good for these days. I'm hoping VsXIII and Deus Ex will prove me wrong, but I have about as much faith in them as I do in Sony at the moment.

@Clearflora: If you can stand the art style, forget VII and play IX instead. Best of the PS1 era FF games IMO.

I have been playing Final Fantasy games for a long time in my opinion nothing can compare to Final Fantasy X, but I think Final Fantasy XIII is different from all the other games and you just have to keep an open mind. I liked the battle system and the storyline, but the endless battles to gain crystarium points in order to advance in your job class is insane. I am interested to see what they do with Final Fantasy XIII-2.

I was very bored by FFXIII. A horrible story with boring characters except for Sazh and Fang. And it only had 1 sidequest. What I hate the most is when those who liked the game talk about the class system like it is so amazing and new and tactical. It just takes jobs used throughout the series and condenses them into six jobs. You don't even need to change jobs until bosses or until the last hunts you go on. Just thinking about this game pisses me off. I'm gonna go play Dragon Quest now.
