I ran a 5k in 19:24, so switching to miles, that puts me in the 20-30 ish category. I guess its not the fastest, but its nothing to sneeze at either.

I do long distance in track and I am a running back for my school's football team, so I do run a lot and can run 5 miles pretty easily i'm pretty sure I can finish it in about 16 or 17 minutes easily. 15 definitely being the fastest.

emmiah :

Not to doubt you...

but you are suggesting you run a 3-4 minute mile for 5 miles straight.

Considering the fastest mile ever is 3:43... (I think?) I highly doubt you have broken the record so much that you can run 5 miles faster than most people can run 2.

I think it's possible you have a very bad misconception of distance, or worse, time.

I am pretty average, because at my school we need to run a mile like everyday. So it okay for me.

I can run about a 38 minute 5 mile, so, when you take in to account that I haven't been running for forever, that's a pretty good time.

I love to exercise and stay in shape, It's only been within the last 3 years that I started to regularly go out running, before that I was more the weightlifter type. I then realized how silly it is for guys who strictly weight lift but get no cardio exercises. You can be the strongest man in the world but if you have 0 cardio , imo you're still pretty out of shape.

I'm not extremely fast when I run , but slow n steady wins the race! I usually just go outside my house and run on the sidewalk instead of going on any track or something of that sort so I don't really know the exact distance of my runs. I do know I usually run CLOSE to 7 miles which usually takes me just about exactly 1 hour. I would guess that puts me into the 30-40 minute range to run 5 miles.

I'm sure if I didn't lift weights so often and focused on just running I could be a lot faster but I like to also be strong along with fast and agile and having endurance. I just have massive shoulders and pecs from so much bench pressing that I highly doubt all that extra upper body weight is all to beneficial when I go running.

I love to go running because it is a really good way to push yourself and see what you can do! When I get to right around 7 miles of non stop running my body actually gets a 'high' that some people call a 'runners high' and to me it is actually pretty enjoyable.

I'm pretty strange and usually when I go running it is at night because I work all day. I like to run at night since I'm running on the sidewalk along side roads, the traffic is a lot less at night and I hate having to stop even for a few seconds for traffic. The temperature outside is usually a lot cooler at night also making the running more enjoyable.  I actually had a police officer follow me home from my run once and then when I got home I looked out my window and he was parked outside my house shining his cars spotlight into my houses windows etc. I went outside and asked him whats up and he just said he saw me running so late and was wondering if their was a problem. I just explained to him that I was only out exercising and that I enjoy running at night. After that I think the police officers of my neighborhood got to know me because they do sometimes see me running at night and follow me a little but they haven't followed me to my house since or ever stopped me.

I can run. At least, I've been running a bit better than I use to. Maybe its because I've been moving a bit more as of late, or something, but I still have trouble keeping my breath for long while I run.

5 miles was it? Probably a half an hour... I mean if I run at 10 miles an hour, then logically 5 miles should be half that, right?

Crazy Li : Well you can't just say I run 1 mile in 5 minutes so I would run 5 in 25, It doesn't work that way. You will be a lot more refreshed that first mile than on the 4th and 5th no matter what you will be more tired on those miles thus they take longer to run than your first mile.

You are saying you run a mile in 6 minutes, if I had to guess you would probably be close to 38-45 minutes to run 5 miles.

Crazy Li :

Keep in mind you have to maintain that pace for 5 miles. Not many people can maintain 10mph for a half hour, some are fortunate if they can do that for 3 miles.

I find a good formula for guessing is to take your top speed, and divide it in half. May need to adjust depending on how much stamina you have. Most high school athletes can probably stick to the formula, but anyone who isn't yet in high school, or isn't an athlete will probably need to take more than half away.

For example, I once ran a mile in 4:50. That's close to 20 mph. Cut that in half, and you find that is about 10. I once ran 5 miles in about 30 minutes.

If I had been able to maintain 20 mph for half an hour, I'd have run 5 miles in 15 minutes, which is impossible, I'm pretty sure.

No, I'm not saying I run a 6 minute mile and multiplying by 5. I'm saying I did 10 miles once in a bit over an hour (I'm being pretty generous and rounding down) and then cutting that in half.

The only time I ever run fast, is whenever something really, really scares me. Then you think I was running a marathon. It's actually pretty funny when I think about it later.

Izziah : Haha!  I love that last option!

I put a lot of work into getting back into shape this summer, but I gotta say I was quite embarrassed.  It took me about 20 minutes to jog/run at a pace I could manage without over-doing it.  However, as I ran more and more, it became easier.  However, I still can't do 5 miles in an hour.  I can run at 5.5 mph for about 10-12 minutes, but after that I half to walk for five minutes, run for five, and then for the rest of the time: walk for two and half and then run for two and half.

Of course, that was almost two months ago.  *blushes* I've been overwhelmed at work and unable to continue working out.

I wouldn't know. I've gained some leg muscle by doing a lot of peddling on my exercise bike so I should be a little faster. But lets see if I'm keeping a pace and I'm occupied maybe 20 minutes more or less...I'm really a slow runner thou.

Oldschool41 : 20 minutes more or less? You do realize that the world record for a 5 mile run is 21:03, do you not? Just saying.

rcarter2 : Oh crap thanks for posting. I've never ran 5 miles (or I have without timing it) so I wouldn't know how far away
5 miles is or how long it would take the average person from doing it. So I'll say 1 Hour just to be safe. I'll try to run 5 miles to get a better more accurate answer (I'll just have to make time in my day to do it).

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
