I was a drug addict for all of my teenage life (from 11-19), and now I've been sober for about 8 years. However, as much as weed seems to be innocent, once you quit you'll notice the effects that it's done to you. Or perhaps it's a combination of the other stuff I was hooked on as well.

Anyways, although I do still have a slightly above average I.Q., I notice that periodically I loose track of thought and zone out. I've learned to snap out of it but it's hard to hide from the people I'm talking to, not to mention embarrassing.

Bottom line is, drugs give you drain bramage lol, (no seriously).

Look, everything you can possibly put in your body can kill you; even drinking too much water (hyponatremia). Most people are going to try drugs or alcohol at some point in their life and that's just the way it is. The thing is to not over do it. I would never touch any hard drugs like meth, cocaine or opiates because those might not mess you up the first time, but if you contnue to use them, they most certainly will.

Who wouldn't know that drugs are bad for you and will have a negative effect etc etc
I don't judge.
Done several of them myself, that's why.
You don't know how it feels like and what is addiction, how hard and how freeing in the same way.
Some people come out of it, some don't.
Some people can actually live with it, because not everyone are heavy-users.
I said I don't judge, but I always tell people not to try them.
Not worth the drama.
If you can handle them, then good. Most people can't.
It will eventually f*ck you up and everyone-everything around you.
And making this damage right again is a pain.

As for alcohol. I drink a lot and used to drink even more, but
at one point I decided I don't want to vanish like that.
Even though I honestly like alcohol, I just say no.
It's not that hard. To say no, you know.

Cigarettes. I smoke. Yes, the damage done. But whatever, you can have cancer from sitting in front of a computer too much too.

Prescription drugs abuse is the new problem nowadays.

When you have kids, just take them to Amsterdam where they'll see people in out of their minds conditions, and maybe they'll never want to do drugs.

But I'm pretty sure everyone eventually will try something.

I have read about how the difference between marijuana and cigarettes is the tar, and chemicals. lol, but here I am simply worried about just having the smoke in my lungs "cough, cough". I agree with Annette about the odor as well. I am above the influence, but am for legalizing marijuana for the economic benefits.

Zack Ate A Baby : I will never touch marijuana. I simply have no interest in it and I judge people who smoke it a lot.

I do, however, drink alcohol. I love beer and I like taquila and rum. I enjoy it responsibly and I'm of age. I just love that beer.

Zack Ate A Baby : "My first question is, what do you think about Marijuana? I took a class on Substance Abuse the first semester of my sophomore year (I'm a junior in high school), and I know what I'm talking about when I say that weed is better for you than cigarettes. Marijuana has much more tar than cigs, simply due to the lack of a filter. But cigarettes are packed with deadly chemicals like cyanide, arsenic, and even imbalming fluid. If it wasn't for the filter at the end of a cigarette, a lot more people would be dead. Marijuana on the other hand, is all natural. I don't support the use of it, but there haven't been any reports of death because of smoking too much weed. Plus, Marijuana doesn't have a tolerence. Most potheads think it does because they need more and more each time they smoke in order to get high. The thing is, THC, the chemical in weed that makes you high, takes about a month to completely leave your system. So if you smoke a little bit on Monday and the same amount on Wednesday, you won't feel anything. In my opinion, it's a waste of money and time."

---

Let me just address a few things. What I'm telling you, as far as my experience, is the real truth. Firstly, both cigarettes and weed are harmful to your lungs in some capacity. Even if nature intends for us to have the ability to smoke, it will still do some damage to you. And we tend to have poor self-regulating ability when it comes to this method of consumption. It will decrease your fitness and exacerbate potential respiratory conditions you may have. Marijuana contains no addictive chemicals or carcinogens that are present in cigarettes, although smoke itself has been linked to various forms of cancer. In this sense, marijuana is safer.

It's not true that weed smokers need more and more to get a high. There is a slight tolerance involved in processing THC of a particular strain, but it doesn't stop you from getting high. It may just lessen the impact of your experience. It's like anything you do a lot, you psychologically get used to it and it's no longer as novel as it once was. However, if you just smoke a tiny bit of a different strain you will again feel the full effects from it. Most marijuana use has a peak, a limit at which smoking any more is basically just an exercise in recreation. You could sit and smoke a whole ounce of weed, but basically all you'll be doing is bringing yourself back to that peak. Psychological cravings come from it's association with a certain emotional need or activity.

Also, it's not true that you can "smoke some on Monday and the same amount on Wednesday and you won't feel anything." Although THC is stored in fat cells for some time, it is benign. It will have no noticeable effect on brain activity. You will feel the effects of marijuana every time you smoke it, especially if some time has passed since the last time you did. Also, when you give up smoking marijuana you will feel normal again within a very short time. The active residual THC in your fat is quickly metabolized, so there is no truth to the myth that you will still be stoned days, weeks or months after you last smoked it. The "pot head" myth - is just a myth. In my experience, most of the effects of marijuana are gone after one night's sleep. The relaxed state may remain, cognitive abilities are not noticeably affected and by the end of the day you won't feel any of the effects of marijuana at all. This can of course be altered by the intake method, especially by eating marijuana, which can have longer lasting effects.

As for my opinion on marijuana, I no longer smoke it but I am not totally against it's use. I am against breaking the law to obtain it, but unfortunately that is sometimes people's only option. Like many drugs, it has some positive side effects and possible applications as a medicine. It differs from other popular recreational drugs in that the experience from it is mostly benign, harmless physically and psychologically as well as lending itself towards happy, creative states of mind. This is in contrast to drugs like methamphetamine which usually come with a heavy physical and psychological price. My personal preference is not to be under the influence of any extraneous substances. I also want to avoid smoke (although I disagree about the smell, I find it rather satisfying), but my primary concern is that I be in my natural state. For this same reason I don't drink, or do any other drugs.

If marijuana had not been demonized by Western culture, it may today have enjoyed the same social acceptance that alcohol does. Alcohol is accepted by intelligent members of society despite the fact that it leads to more destructiveness and death than nearly all the drugs combined. Alcohol or more specifically the ethanol in an alcoholic drink, is one of the most addictive substances known to man. Ethanoic acid in alcohol is like vinegar and literally pickles the insides. Some studies have placed it's addiction rating higher than crack and heroin. There aren't many people who have their first drink and then never touch it again in their lives - after the honeymoon period many of them become alcoholics and depend upon it physically and emotionally. Add to this the moral inconsistency that is allowing young people to "enjoy" their first experience of alcohol by getting drunk (read: poisoned), exposed to danger and suffering their first brain damage (read: state of inebriation and possible black-out) at the hands of the legal substance.

I personally don't use either drug any more, but the hypocrisy involved in the sale of legal alcohol versus the heavy criminalization of marijuana is clearly evident to anyone who looks past our societal norms and the way we rationalize our laws and mores.

Also, I think it's easy for people to pick on marijuana users and speak of having "no respect" for them, when they are the marginalized sector of society. It is far harder to look down upon alcohol drinkers, or cigarette smokers, because those substances are legal and are probably used by a good number of people in your life that you hold in high regard. Nicotine is clearly labeled as a deadly drug now, but alcohol drinking is still regarded as normal by most of society. How ironic that the most powerful substance you can legally put into your body without a doctor's permission is the DRUG that we all take for granted every day, both in it's addictiveness and destructive capabilities. Before we judge people who smoke marijuana (and remember it is legal or decriminalized in some parts of the world), we should think about that.

However, just to clarify I don't judge people who choose to drink "responsibly". I feel the same way about weed smokers. I don't agree with the claims about weed's impact upon the brain and I am far more suspicious about what damage alcohol may do to your brain and body. Therefore I don't see how anyone can use that alone as a justification that marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol. Ethanol is clearly an unnatural poison that affects the brain's ability to process electronic signals. In other words it muddles them and slows them down, which makes us feel "drunk." By comparison, weed bonds to the cannabinoid receptor CB1. There is a specific receptor for THC. From here, it causes changes to the way signals are processed in the brain, but it doesn't do this by decompressing/dehydrating/destroying and inhibiting normal synapse function the way alcohol does. That is why alcohol can kill you and THC can't. Alcohol may inhibit the medulla, or brain stem, to the point that simple acts such as breathing and the beating of the heart are no longer possible as synapses cannot travel to other parts of the body.

It is not necessarily wrong to experience alcohol in moderation. The brain can recover and will not suffer any noticeable, lasting ill-effects as long as we stay below safe limits of consumption. However, this same logic can and should be applied to marijuana. In a sane society, it would be. However, politics and hypocrisy play a much larger role in what we consider right and wrong than we tend to admit. It all comes down to your ideologies...and mine is that the body and soul is best functioning without influences like drugs, regardless of whether they are legal or not.

First of all, I am a recovering addict so I've been around the bend with drugs and alcohol but I still have opinions.

I, myself, think that marijuana is the least dangerous of the long list of drugs but I also believe that even though it has some of the least of the health risks, it still has risks associated with it's use. No matter the drug, when you use it, it affects your brain, logic, thought process, reaction time, etc. Even the use of marijuana can have a dangerous side.

As far as alcohol, if it's used sporadically or responsibly doesn't have too many problems when it comes to addiction but is still dangerous for our bodies and brains. I was one of those drinkers who had no limits. Once I had a drink in my hand I wouldn't and couldn't stop and it would escalate until I ran out of money or until my body gave up on me and I had to be admitted to a hospital. If you have limits and common sense it is a way to spend time with friends on occasion but nonetheless still bad for you and your body/brain.

Enforcing drug laws is a hard thing to do. Every day, someone finds another way to get high and it's becoming such a big thing in the world. All you can do is educate others on the dangers and negative affects associated with the use. I spent my entire adolescence and adult years up to 21 indulged in drugs and alcohol. It took me years to get the help I needed and move on from my horrible addictions. I almost lost my life to drugs and I spend all the time I can trying to help others who are on the same path I used to be on. Whether it be alcohol, pills, heroin or any other drug, addiction is a very real and dangerous thing and people lose their lives to them every day. I've lost many people/friends to drugs and I never want anyone to have to go through what I went through in my own addiction. There's help and resources out there. I ended up in a treatment facility for detox and therapy. There is that, NA, AA and many other things out there for help.

Regardless, drugs and alcohol are very dangerous when in the wrong hands. Not everyone has the ability to use "responsibly". Props to those who can but taking the risk of using and not knowing if you'll become addicted or not is not the smartest idea in my book.

I say that drugs are horrible things that should never be used unless they are prescribed by a professional. marijuana Is very bd for you, and no one should smoke it.

But anyways, what's your take on the issue of drugs?

To borrow the words of a man named Laurence Vance, "It is neither the job of government nor the business of any individual to prohibit, regulate, restrict, or otherwise control what a man desires to eat, drink, smoke, inject, absorb, snort, sniff, inhale, swallow, or otherwise ingest into his body." I agree with that.

Personally, I have tried some drinks and can only stand something like vodka mixed with lemonade or a fruit juice or something like that; I find most of it rather disgusting when straight. I have never smoked and so forth.

hackerman : Alcohol and cigarettes are extremely more harmful than marihuana, yet they are legal. It's not illegal for any good reason in my opinion. Yes, there are reasons, but they're based on fear, ignorance, misinformation and MONEY. Not understanding something leads to being afraid of it.

im all for legalisation and im no alcholic but i have to admit i drink to get drunk alot of the time unless its family occasions but i only really drink alchol at parties, i think marujuana is the same as alchol really and a lot of the people i know are avid amokers where as i just smoke when offered, i hate cigarettes because they taste horrible and damage your body even though i know that, that would be really hypocritical of what i just said. As  for hard drugs i understand why people use them and i think curiosity kills more cats than the drugs themselves if you know what i mean.

drugs are like mmorpgs if youve got nothing better to do with your life you'll get addicted till it consumes you, unfortunatley drugs are a lot harder to ween yourself off of and you dont get withdrawl symptoms from mmo's

I believe that as Americans, we have the right to do what ever substance we please regardless of the damage it causes to our own bodies. The issue should be how if affects the people around us. If it harms someone in anyway, then its on the person who can't handle the freedom to do it. I believe that it should be allowed so long as it doesn't harm the people around us and there should be rules that apply to certain people. If your part of a family, or under 18 then you should not be allowed to use any kind of impairing substance in the company of the family unless it stays under a certain limit, like if your part of a family, then whenever they are around you, you should always be sober enough to drive regardless of the substance.  If you are single however, then you should have the right to be sprawled out on the floor gurgling with mysterious white foam oozing out of your mouth. If you live with someone, then you may not do this unless both of you consent to it and drugs like cigarettes or anything that produces smoke should not be allowed in the presence of the other unless they permit it. you should be indoors whenever you are under the influence and you should be jailed immediately upon setting foot outside under the influence. If you were at a bar, then you must remain in the bar until you are sober. There should be licenses to use drug just like driving. Take a class, and if you pass then you get to use them as much as you like. If you don't have a license then you are not allowed to take part in any kind of substance usage. If you live with someone who does not have a license, then you should not be allowed to do any kind of substance even if you have their permission. If you harm someone or exit your center of usage (home or a bar or someone else home)  while under the usage it should result in permanent revoking of the license and a certain punishment or jail time depending on the severity of the violation. That may seem harsh but its to promote the severity of how drug abuse can affect others. And if you are caught doing substance without a license, then you get 10 years in jail and it should double each time you are caught. There would be exceptions though like if your under the influence and someone picks a fight with YOU, then it would be taken to court. This is just my personal Ideal for drug usage and this would never happen lol.

I plan on smoking weed and drinking until I off myself at 40. I plan on living like Hunter S. Thompson, the greatest man to ever live. LSD, weed, coke, DMT, mushrooms, and everything else until the day I die. Just remember to never abuse drugs and drive. You could hurt people.

There has been a lot said for both the pros and cons of weed, so I will basically be repeating what every one else has said. So I will try something a bit different to support my opinion of legalization.

I came across a list of chronic conditions that can be treated with cannabis. When I copy and pasted the list it screwed up the format and it becomes  almost impossible to read, it would probably take me over and hour to fix it. I  won't link the site but if you want it just PM me, the list is on the same page for people to apply for a Canadian medical marijuana dispensory and I don't want to send general traffic to it.

There are 285 conditions in this list. I find it very interesting that cannabis can be used to treat alcoholism, cocain dependance, ampetamine dependance , sedative dependence, tobacco dependence, and opiate dependance. Although I am sure many of the conditions on the list use cannabis as a pain killer there are others such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsons Disease where it helps the nervous system operate. There is a wide variety of conditions , every thing from stuttering to epilepsy.

At the very least I think weed should be accessable at pharmasicts and be prescribed by doctors.

Cocain Weed is a helluva drug!
