Elara : Exactly. But I find it unnerving that criminals and gang members seem to get automatic weapons so easily. The laws don't seem to do their jobs when they're ACTUALLY needed.

I think it should be taken into consideration that the right to bear arms was a product of a different time. How often does someone really need a gun in the current society? I don't even think that I've held a real gun before and I don't ever see myself getting one either. I don't like guns. I wouldn't mind that right being taken away. No good comes from using a gun. What good does ending another person's life do?

But arguments for keeping guns are pretty poor.people who hunt would still have a license btw,you can own guns in uk you just need a good reason.as for oposing your government,1,a gun cant stop a tank.2,the irish managed to get them when they needed.

Sephitard9001 : Dude, I know that people where killed with swords before guns. My point is that guns do not put the user in harm's way, like swords might. A sword fight is a dangerous situation will with guns you can stand back and kill someone without them even knowing. Making something easy draws people to it.

But it is not a danger like cutting off your own hand with a sword. Guns have been refined to the point where there is not much chance of the gun exploding or misfiring, if proper care is taken. A sword needs training if the user plans on not hurting themselves or the people they do not mean to hurt.

Sledgehammers weren't made to be weapons, but they can be used as one.

Sephitard9001 : yes large scale killing is a massive crime but small scale crime will always be present.like i said,in uk hunters ARE allowed guns,but in ura you dont need to have a good reason to get one.the point with guns is,its pretty damn hard to stop them,if i walk into a store or a school with a gun,odds are you couldnt stop me before i kill someone,quite possibly many people.if i walk in with a melee weapon your odds are much higher.given sledgehammers are not designed as weapons,are not much good as weapons,non concealable,and that uk police would seize it off you if you had it outside for no good reason,i dont think they should be illegal

I don't think it goes far enough in recognizing such a right as self-defense and the power check against the state. If Bill Gates wanted military-grade stuff such as missiles, tanks, drones and such, more power to him in my opinion.
