The effects will keep improving for a while. But I don't foresee a major jump.

I'm afraid I'll have to respectfully disagree, Vash. There's two main steps to improving graphics: technology, and technique. First they develop faster, more powerful processors (that's the technology part) such as the jump from PSX to PS2. But, the graphics for PS2 -- as Zylo mentioned -- looked like crap at first because programmers were used to PSX. Then, the programmers learn the new limits that they can reach, and begin to further develop their technique, by adding in little things (like the trees blowing in the wind) and expanding on those new abilities.

Simply put, I don't think that we're looking at a glass ceiling on graphics anytime soon. Technology, I don't think, will hit one. Programmers' technique, on the other hand... What will happen when (and I do think it's just a matter of when) they reach the point where you can't make it any more realistic? When you can't tell the difference between gaming and real footage? I think at that point, programmers will really have to put their imaginations to the test, to achieve something that actually looks BETTER, and if this makes sense, "more realistic" than reality itself.

As for major jumps, it's hard to say...but I am leaning in favor of them. I think we'll be constantly surprised by what we see coming in the future...and stuff like that, that stimulates your imagination (which is REALLY good for a writer!)...that's what keeps me playin'.

Here is a link to all the articles IGN Cube has about it: http://cube.ign.com/objects/572/572738.html.

There are some new speculation articles that you guys should check out.

Very interesting that there is still no official title.
