My Gaming Thoughts Right Now:

This is a post with some random bullet points where I speak my mind on stuff I've been thinking about, might be relevant to now, might be some random thoughts I've had about stuff, read on to find out!!!

  • Just because you're making a 'PS2' like game, doesn't mean you have to be lazy with your design! I don't really play a lot of video games that purposefully make a video game that looks like a retro game or something like that, but when I do I feel like they kinda miss the point of making a game like that. A lot of these games I feel like they look bad as they just have not good looking graphics for lack of a better phrase. You know with games like Star Fox, Final Fantasy 7, or even newer games like Super Mario Sunshine, or even Metroid Other M. Which literally looks so good that it could easily pass for a PS3/360 game! What those games did was push the known limitation of those games consoles, I mean Sunshine's water and stuff like the shimmering from the heat in the air still look amazing today. Or Other M being so graphic intensive that they had to figure out how to cram a like 40 minute long cutscene into this toaster of a console! And the fact that the Wii could do it is a testament to this power but that's something else. And then FF7 was literally Other M years earlier with its cutscenes being such a shift from the in game graphics. And Star Fox is just a wonder when you remeber that its a SNES game. Same for the like of F-Zero or the cool airship sections of Final Fantasy 6, and the Vector graphics used in the openings of stuff like Mega Man X. While nowadays when someone is making a video game in the 'sense of SNES game' or a 'PS1 game' or something like that it just kinda like they said that so they can make something with blurry graphics or something with crappy trank controls. And then they try to pass it off as being a cool call back to some old thing, or like they are making the next new big Resident Evil or something like that. Like I'm not saying that you need to make the next big new looking game but at least try I feel. I kinda feel this point holds true to a lot of platformers or MetroidVania games as a lot of them are 2D side scrollers and they really don't look all that amazing as compared to something off the SNES or something like that. If you're going to make a PS2 game then why not make it on the PS2 and try to make it really press the limits! That would be a super cool game if you could literally play it on the console you're mimicking and you really show how great it could be on the console, just a wild idea!

  • Instead of wheres the beef, wheres the snow? What that means is kinda of not what its saying a bit, as i feel that Christmas is one of the few holidays that games actually get into. Like Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights where they make the game world look different for loads of stuff for different holidays. Or like in Postal 2 where the game becomes unplayable on Halloween as there are special enemies that only pop up on Halloween. Some games like Fortnite do stuff for holidays but it just doesn't feel the same in my personal opinion. Like why cant we get some cool missions for Halloween in some game (I know, Fortnite!) Or have some special treats on something a bit random like Thanksgiving or something like that! Its kinda sad that I really only see stuff like this heavily done in a lot of free to play games like Gems of War or Valorant or stuff like that. But anything where you gotta pay money to play? Nope nothing for any holidays usually except something like Christmas. I'm not asking for all games to celebrate holidays but I'd love to have some game do it super crazy so I can do something wild like collect all the candy hidden around the world on Easter or something like that, and that would be super cool in my opinion! I would also like to point out that old games on stuff like the Dreamcast would do some crazy stuff like they would on Sonic Adventure where you could get some special free stuff on holidays that would only be given to you if you played on those days. And it may not be too much better than a random emote to Get Griddy with, but it definitely felt more personal and special then how they do it so dry and mundane like nowadays. But maybe I should just be happy to know that most games still remember the likes of Christmas and probably Halloween as well as New Years, and oddly Chinese New Years I've been noticing!

So comment below what your opinion was on whatever I was going about how I feel that developers are making games look 'old' to basically be lazy. Or how I wished they did more holidays in video games then just Christmas! I'd love to hear whatever you'd have to say!
