A few months ago I created a spreadsheet to keep track of my ratings for every album that I've listened to enough that I felt comfortable giving it a rating. Currently, there are 138 albums on the spreadsheet, but that number is always increasing as I discover more music.

Here are the albums that I currently consider to be a 9 or higher:

9s:
• Favourite Worst Nightmare - Arctic Monkeys (2007)
• Gradutation - Kanye West (2007)
• Man On The Moon: The End Of Day - Kid Cudi (2009)
• Yeezus - Kanye West (2013)
• 2014 Forest Hills Drive - J. Cole (2014)
• The Forever Story - JID (2022)
• Brat and it's completely different but also still brat - Charli xcx (2024)
• Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay (2024)

9.5s:
• To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar (2015)
• BRAT - Charli xcx (2024)

10s:
• The College Dropout - Kanye West (2004)
• My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010)
• good kid, m.A.A.d city - Kendrick Lamar (2012)

If I had to pick one album as my favorite of all-time, it would probably be My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

What about you? What are your favorite albums of all-time?

My favorite albulm of all time and the only one I've ever owned is The Best of Crush 40 Super Sonic Songs. I love Crush 40 and have since I got into Sonic though I wish the albulm had more of the songs from the daytona game they worked on.

SonicOlmstead :
Crush 40 is so good, Sonic Free Riders theme used to be my favorite song a few years ago, and its only 4th after 5 years.

It is hard to pick one, but there are three that really stand out to me.

SOUR - Olivia Rodrigo's first album and my alltime favorite pop album. I love every song on it, and some of them (Drivers license, Happier) are in my top 10 all time songs.

Transatlanticism - Death Cab For Cutie's best album is not perfect all the way through (New Year, Lightness) but has some of the greatest songs (Transatlanticism and Lack of Color).

The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place - Explosions in the Sky. Only 5 songs and fully instrumental, but "Your Hand in Mine" and "The Only Moment We Were Alone" are life changing songs worth listening to.

I like SOUR, but it has some glaring flaws in my opinion. The lyrics in particular are a weak point. There are certain lines that make me cringe, and overall it's clear throughout the album that she was new to songwriting. I think the writing is much better on GUTS, even though I do prefer SOUR to GUTS sonically. good 4 u is a great song (even though it is very similar to Misery Business) and I like jealousy, jealousy a lot too. I have SOUR rated a 7/10 on my spreadsheet.

I'm not familiar with the other two albums that you mentioned.

I'm not sure that it is my favorite album of all time, but I have been obsessed with Melodrama by Lorde for the past couple of months. It has a few skips which is why I don't think I'd consider it my favorite album of all time.

You already know my opinion on Melodrama. Liability is the worst song, and the only skip (even though it's the second-most streamed song on the album).

I don't really care too much for full albums, I just find songs that I like and listen to those. The only complete albums that I like are Evolve by Imagine Dragons and BTR from Big Time Rush.

Mock me all you want but Hybrid Theory from Linkin Park is an amazing first album. Yes it's made fun of for being edgy or whatever but it's really well put together and musically is just fun to listen to

I don't really care for albums. I am more a song guy, and even then, i don't really have a band loyalty. I mostly pay attention to the lyrics and the instrumentals to determine if I like the song.

However, I have been listening to quite a bit of Sabaton. I probably listen to songs from The Great War the most.

I can't really put together a definite favorites list, but about ten years or so ago, on a now-defunct reggae website, I came across an article about the top 50 reggae albums of the new millennium (according to the author's opinion). And it inspired me to share my own top 50 in the comments section of said article. Fortunately, before I posted that comment, I composed it in a notefile, which I still happen to have, so I can copy it here (it's a list in alphabetical order, not a ranking):

48. U Brown - Rougher Than The Rest (2003)
49. Volcano - Mo Fyah Chant (2006)
50. Xkaliba - Baptized In The Ghetto (2005)

Honorable mentions: Abja - Mahogany Road (2006)
                   Alborosie - Soul Pirate (2008)
                   Army - Rasta Awake (2005)
                   Capleton - More Fire (2000)
Earl Sixteen - The Fittest (2011)
                   Glen Washington - Masterpiece (2012)
Jah Cure - Ghetto Life (2003)
                   Jahman - Reggae International (2004)
Lion Sitté - Otros Tiempos (2012)
Midnite and Mystic Vision - New 1000 (2006)
                   Norrisman - Home & Away (2006)
                   Sizzla - Taking Over (2001)
Takana Zion - Zion Prophet (2007)
                   Toussaint - Black Gold (2010)
Warrior King - Virtuous Woman (2002)
                   Yahadanai - One Atonement (2004)

Since I rarely venture outside of reggae music in my listening habits, and my favorite era within the genre is the 00s, it is as close to an actual favorite albums list as I can think of. Sure, if it wouldn't haven been strictly about 21st century releases I would have put a few older classics on it. Like "The Heart Of The Congos" by The Congos, and "Satta Massagana" by The Abyssinians. I am sure I would have put a few 90's albums up there as well. And if I would put this list together nowadays, there would be a few other changes here-and-there too. There are some releases, which, I would say, only made it to the list at that time due to recency bias. For example Jah Defender's "Rastaman Rise", Lion D's "Reap What You Sow", maybe I could say the same even about Naptali's "Long Journey", while Lion Sitté's "Otros Tiempos" definitely falls into this category. It is also very likely that a few other Midnite albums would appear on the list (I am 100% sure I would make room for "Ark A Law" at the very least). But even with all those changes, 80-85% of the list would remain the same. So I am still pretty satisfied with this selection of albums overall.

P.S.: Revisiting this list gave me the idea to listen through it. I already went through "Inna Red I Hour", "Conquering Sound", and "O' Pen" (I skipped Tinkin Out Loud for now, since it isn't on Youtube... I will get to that one by other means eventually), and I am having a blast.

P.P.S.: I know this list, and by extension this whole post, must be super uninteresting for those who aren't into reggae music. So props to you, and thank you if you have read it anyway.
