It's time for a review of the Nintendo Switch version of Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2, my first Gunvolt game...it was my first Gunvolt game because it has english voices unlike the previous games, when it was announced that Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 was also going to have English voices, my reaction was ''finally! Now I'll play a Gunvolt game for the first time!''...anyway, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 is a game rated T for Teen, and as you may or may not know, one of its content descr Story: I can confirm that you don't need to play the previous game to understand the story in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2, it's a platformer with a story that has little to do (if any) with the last game. Really, the story is just ''Copen, Lola and Kohaku end up in a different world, where they meet a robot named Null and now, Copen, Lola and Kohaku have to return to the world where they belong.'' Obviously there is a bit more than that and there are more characters in the story, but the game is a platformer and a game that at most takes 5, 6, or 7 hours to finish and as I said, at most. What the game offers in terms of story works, I like the story in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 and not much else. Definitely a 7/10 at best. Graphics: One of the best parts of the game. Like Rabi-Ribi, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 has a pixelated art style and it looks great. The pixel art is better than other games that also use sprites and the game looks beautiful at times, the hanging gardens is probably the best area graphically speaking. The 2D art looks great, it's another anime style game and the characters look detailed in 2D, there are some short sequences/animations and they always look great, unlike other anime style games, the characters don't blink or move their mouths when they speak but at least they look great and as I said, there are some short animations in 2D. At least an 8/10 and a 9/10 at best, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 is a Nintendo Switch game that looks really nice. Sound: Unlike other games developed by Inti Creates (the Mega Man Zero games for example), the music in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 doesn't stand out, for the most part the music in the game is only okay, only the vocal songs and maybe the music of the main menu/title screen, Panic Encounter and the boss theme Gravekeepers are themes I would describe as ''good'', everything else isn't memorable. It's not a bad soundtrack but it's not a good soundtrack either, the music...definitely could be better, in the end, only a few songs stay with you after you beat the game. Having said all that, the game has good english voice acting, I bought the game because it has English voices and I can say for sure that the voice acting is pretty good at times. The cast has names such as Alejandro Saab, Kira Buckland and Natalie Hoover, and the actors did a good job. Yeah, a 7/10 for this category if one wants to be generous, and at least a 6/10. Addictive: A platformer that like the Mega Man ZX games, can be fast paced, that's what this game is and it's very fun. Being a game developed by Inti Creates, it shouldn't be a surprise that the Gunvolt games (not just this one) are...a little inspired by the Mega Man games let's say, so, some gameplay mechanics are taken from those games and the result is a fun and sometimes fast paced platformer. You have the ability to climb walls, you can dash in the air and hit enemies with a tackle, and as you defeat bosses, you gain new weapons (EX weapons), which are the same attacks or skills that the bosses already have, not an exact copy, somehing that Lola admits, but yeah, it's another feature taken from the Mega Man games. The weapons you get from the bosses can be used to get specific items or destroy some obstacles, the weapon Doomsday Charge can be used to burn or destroy some obstacles for example and said obstacles can only be destroyed with Doomsday Charge. Those mechanics or features aren't things we haven't seen before (and not just games developed by Capcom and Inti Creates) but it doesn't matter because it works really well and it's a very fun game. Depth: It's a short game that can be finished in 5 hours or less, sure, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 has multiple endings (3 different endings) but getting all the different endings should take you 10-18 hours and maybe only if we go with the idea that you aren't very good in the game or that it's kind of difficult, but I don't think that it's something that can take you 20 hours or more. It's a short game, even compared to other games in the genre...6/10 at best... Difficulty: For the most part, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 is an easy game, and that's because you always have access to a healing ability, Lola can always heal you if you so desire and in fact, it's what you have to do because the game doesn't have healing items. I lost a few times throughout the game but only because Copen fell into a bottomless pit or because I was trying to get a bonus emblem, so, I would say that the game is difficult or challenging (to an extent at least) only if you try to get all the bonus emblems and if you want to get all the endings in the game...a 5/10 or 6/10 at least....7/10 at worst maybe...there are more difficult platformers out there. Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 is a game I highly recommend even if you aren't a Gunvolt fan, it's a fun platformer with great graphics, good characters, good voice acting and enjoyable vocal songs. It's not a long game and you can finish the game in a few hours especially if you ignore the bonus emblems, but the short time the game lasts is very enjoyable. If you don't have a problem with some fanservice, something that other games developed by Inti Creates have...play Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2, it's a good game.
