Super Mario Bros 2 which originally was Doki Doki Panic, gave us some new characters. Nintendo took Doki Doki Panic and converted it to a Mario game. The family's characters where replaced by Mario and his friends. The plot was even changed just a little bit to fit Mario and his friends. However, what did not really change was the game's enemies. A lot of the enemies went on to become staples in Mario Games, mainly part of Bowser's Minions. However a few enemies did not this was their only appearance. Tryclyde also spelled as TriClyde was one of those enemies.

According to the booklet of the original game. Tryclyde was an outsider in the land of Subcon. He was seen as an outsider and social outcast. However, he impressed Wart with his ability to breath fire, his mind, and his offense abilities which are three times more than his average minion. Wart made him one of his guardians.

Tryclyde's role is to cause nightmares for the Subcon residents. His other role is that of a guardian. Tryclyde guards the desert forts for Wart. He is very aggressive and will burn anyone who does not have Wart's permission to be there.

In the original game he is fought in worlds 2 and 6. However, after Wart is defeated Tryclyde is not heard from again. Like Mouser and Claw Grip he does not appear in another Mario game. He also does not make a cameo appearance. There are several theories. One common theory is after Wart's defeat he reformed and just went to being an outsider. Another theory since Wart may have enhanced him with magic after he is defeated Tryclyde just vanished. Nintendo has not confirmed why he has not shown back up.

Appearance- Tryclyde's is a three headed snake. Each of his heads has fangs. He also has a tail like most snakes. His color has changed over the years. In the original game he was red, white, and reddish/orange stripes. IN remakes of the game he is aqua/teal with orange stripes.

Personality- The booklet says he has a cunning brain. This would mean he is intelligent. He has great offensive potential. Tryclyde is aware of this and he gets a thrill out of causing nightmares. He loves burning those who are not supposed to be in the forts. When he is given speaking roles he says step right up if your ready to get toasted. Again this gives the impression he is arrogant and confident in his abilities. He takes his role in Warts army very seriously.

If he is defeated, when he has a speaking role, he will say impossible. Again this shows that he can be cocky as he thinks he cannot be defeated. He gets mad when he is defeated hissing and saying impossible as he goes down.

Abilities- Tryclyde can either be stationary or move back and forth on his platform. He can generate unlimited fireballs. He can just decide to spit one fireball out or he can spit an entire string of them out. How many he spits out is up to him. He also has the ability to spit his fireballs rapidly in a rapid fire like way. He is also durable as it can take 3 to 6 hits to take him out.

Attacks- When he spits one fireball one of his heads will just shoot one. However, when he starts shooting more fireballs, all of his heads will shoot them out. He can also shoot a stream of fireballs rapidly. This is what can make him dangerous as the fireballs can be hard to dodge. He can also move back and forth on his platform.

Weaknesses- He is weak to blocks. In fact, the player can set up a tower of blocks. The blocks will block his fire. Then the player can throw more blocks at him. However, after he is hit with a block he will become more aggressive and start spitting/shooting fireballs rapidly.

Allies

Wart- He looks up to Wart because Wart gave him a chance to be one of his guardians. He is thankful for Wart and will help him at all cost.

8-Bits He is friends with Wart's 8 bite army because they are comrades.

Tweeters- He always has a Tweeter in his boss room. It is likely they are on very good terms as Tweeter was an outcast just like he was.

Mouser and Claw Grip- He gets along well with the other guardians.

Enemies

Mario and Luigi- He does not like the brothers at all because they discovered his weakness. The second time he encounters the brothers he fights them more aggressively.

Peach- He does not like Peach either because she is helping her friends liberate Subcon

Toad- He does not like Toad for the same reasons.


Tryclyde is a snake like creature that only appears in Super Mario Bros 2. Since he appears in the desert levels he maybe be a reference to the sidewinder or some cobra species. In America the Sidewinder is a rattle snake found in deserts. There are several Cobra species that live in the deserts in Africa and Asia. It is also possible that Tryclyde maybe even be based off a mythical creature, but that has not been confirmed.

Regardless, he was seen as an outsider in Subcon until Wart took him under his wing. He serves the evil dictator Wart and takes pleasure in causing nightmares for the Subcon residents. He will stop at nothing to please Wart.

It should be noted that like Mouser and Claw Grip. Tryclyde does not appear in other Mario Games. Basically, he is a one time and done character. It is unknown why that is the case. It is speculated that after Wart's defeat he went back to being an outsider or since he was causing nightmares he just vanished. This concludes the Tryclyde Biography.
