Iconic video game franchises have gave us memorable characters. Also, iconic video game characters like Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Kirby, Sonic, and Mega Man have had memes created. As a Meteorologist iconic video game franchise characters have even appeared in my field. One character that in Meteorology we have fun with is the Angry Sun. We sometimes will post memes about the Angry Sun when temps are going to be close to 100 degrees or greater. Now, when I first played Super Mario Bros 3 the angry sun caused me problems at first. Since it is summer, I decided to do a biography on the Angry Sun. The Angry Sun's origins are unclear. It is speculated that the Angry Sun was created by Bowser to be an obstacle for Mario and his friends. It is also speculated that the angry sun was not created by Bowser, but is part of his minions. Nintendo has not confirmed which one it is. Regardless, the Angry Sun appears to work for Bowser and is part of his minions. The character debuted in Super Mario Bros 3 in the desert levels, and later in Bowser's World. In Super Mario Bros 3 the Angry Sun works for Bowser and aggressively chases Mario or Luigi. In future games the Angry Sun returns again working for Bowser. Just like the first game the sun will angrily chase Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and others. The Angry Sun also appears in Mario Games. It has appeared in a few Mario Kart games. In these games the Angry Sun does not attack the characters. But it does shot fireballs on the track which can cause characters to wreck. In some of the Mario Party Games its likely the sun that tries to burn the characters is the Angry Sun. In these games the Sun will shoot fireballs if the fireball hits a character that character is eliminated from that particular game. Appearance- The Angry Sun looks like a small version of the real sun. Nintendo has confirmed the Angry Sun is not the real Sun but an enemy character. It appears to be reddish orange in color. In some games it is a mix of red, orange, and yellow. In addition, it is sphere shaped. Some games it has flames surrounding its sphere shaped. However, the character is infamous for its angry looks on its face. In a lot of games it has an angry face. In other games it has a regular face that quickly turns to angry, and will even show its teeth. It should be noted that the Sun often appears in hot places. It appears in the desert or tropical levels in the games. In addition, it does not appear in levels where there is lots of clouds. It prefers open spaces where it can easily spot Mario and his friends. Personality- As the name implies the character is angry all the time. It gets angry when it sees Mario, Luigi, or Yoshi. No pun intended but the character is a hot head. The sun is violent as it will aggressively chase non Bowser Minions. It also does not like sun jokes. If it hears a sun joke by Mario and his friends it will make him very angry. However, the Sun is not hostile toward Bowser because he is one of his minions. Moreover, the sun does not like clouds as this blocks his view of Mario and his friends. Abilities- The sun will chase aggressively. It can dive at the player with fast speed. In later games the Sun can shoot fireballs at the players as well as chase the players. It also has the ability to create fire but shooting fireballs burning the ground temporarily. In addition, the Sun is immune to fireballs or fire weapons. Fire weapons only make him angrier. Attacks- In the first game the sun would chase the player and then dive aggressively at them. In addition, the sun can swarm around the players head making it difficult for the player to complete the course. In future games the sun would still chase and dive at the player, but would also shoot fireballs. Also, it can create fire by shooting in front of the player. These attacks make the sun a formidable enemy. Weaknesses- The Angry Sun does have some weaknesses but they have to be well timed. In the first game a Koopa Shell could be used to defeat it. But the player would have to wait for the sun to dive at them before firing it. In current games the player can defeat it with a POW Block or star power. If the player has a hammer suit two well aimed hammers will also take it out. Once again, though the player will need to be accurate with the timing due to the suns dive attacks. Relationships Allies- Bowser- The Sun works for Bowser and serves him. He also tries to help Bowser by being an obstacle for Mario and his friends. Bowser is one of the characters the Sun is not hostile towards. Bowser Jr- The sun also is not hostile toward Bowser's son. Koopalings- The Sun will also help the Koopalings, who are Bowser's niece and nephews. Bowser's Minions- The sun is not hostile toward Bowser's Minions because they are comrades. Enemies Mario and Luigi- The Sun is very hostile toward the brothers. This is because they make him angry especially with their sun jokes. He is also hostile toward them because they have defeated him. Yoshi- He is hostile toward Yoshi for defeating Bowser and Yoshi has also defeated the Angry Sun. The Angry Sun may not be popular like Koopa Troopas, or the Hammer Brothers, but it has become an iconic character. One reason it became Iconic is the Sun has been used to describe the season of Summer. Indeed, in my field of meteorology we even use the Angry Sun as a joke to describe heat waves. Basically, it has become iconic due to memes on social media and in the field of Meteorology. As I stated it is not clear how the Angry Sun came to be. No matter its origins it works for Bowser. Its main goal is to serve as an obstacle for Mario and his friends. I will be honest the character does that role very well. When I first played Super Mario Bros 3 the sun gave me a lot of problems until I got the timing right. In conclusion, the sun is a formidable enemy due to its attacks. Also it is difficult to take out with its weaknesses. This concludes the biography of the angry Sun. The Angry Sun's origins are unclear.
