In Mario Games Bowser's army has given us some unique characters. Anything from shy guys to the actual koopas. There are several types of Koopas in Bowser's army. One of those is Boom Boom.

Boom Boom made his debut in Super Mario Bros 3. In Super Mario Bros 3 he served Bowser and his niece and nephews the Koopalings. He would serve as a boss in the world's middle fortresses. Since then he has appeared as a semi-regular enemy.

In future games he serves similar roles. He is often the boss of fortress stages. Therefore, he serves as a guardian. He is one of Bowser's trusted Koopas. Outside of the fortresses in some games he is seen giving orders to Koopa Troopas. Therefore, his role is most likely as a drill sergeant. However, sometimes he is co-commander of units so he may also serve as a corporal.

In addition, Bowser usually uses him in his raiding parties. He also uses Boom Boom as well as his girlfriend Pom Pom to Kidnap Peach. This confirms that he is versatile and a valued member of Bowser's Minions.

Appearance- He is a large muscular koopa with big bulky arms. He also has two fangs coming out of his mouth. He has padded feet and several claws. He is also shown to have a tail. In addition, he is mostly portrayed as being gold or orange in color. His shell has varied among the games. When he first debuted his shell was green or olive green. In recent games his shell is more dark yellow. In another game his shell was orange/red. It could be that he wears different shells. Regardless, of what color his shell is, his shell has thorny spikes on the back of it.

Personality- He is described as being a hot head. He gets angry when Mario, Luigi, or Yoshi enter his fortress. He will aggressively attack them. When he is co-leading troops he is more like a typical sergeant or corporal. Thus, he has the ability to lead and is a leader type person. Moreover, he is very loyal to Bowser, Bowser Jr and the Koopalings. Boom Boom is Bowser's family faithful servant.

However, he does have a soft side that has been shown. He really cares for his girlfriend Pom Pom. Pom Pom also cares for him. Both do their best to protect each other. Sometimes they will attack Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi together. In one game, after Bowser was defeated him and Pom Pom where seen holding each other in a romantic way. He also cares for soldiers underneath him.

Abilities- Boom Boom can create large booming sounds when he uses his fists to smash into things. He can also use his shell as a weapon and when he is in his shell the spikes on his back protect him. He can also run and attack very quickly. It is also shown that he does have wings and is capable of temporarily flight. In later games he can also create fire with some of his attacks. He can also help build things for Bowser. Also, he is shown to be a skilled pilot.

Attacks/Moves- Boom Boom has several powerful moves. In his debut he would move quick and try to pound Mario or Luigi with his large fists. He could also fly and try to land on top of the player. After Super Mario Bros 3 he gained more attacks. He can spin around in circles like a cyclone using his firsts as weapons. When he does his cyclone attack he can smash through walls and cause destruction. Moreover, he can also use his arms to create fire. Most of his attack involve his powerful arms.

He has other moves that do not involve his arms though. He can use his shell as a weapon or for defense purposes. He can hide in his shell and try to ram into opponents. If he is in his shell and opponents try to jump him the spikes on his shell will do damage. He can also kick with his powerful lugs. His kicks can create boom sounds as well, and sometimes he can smash through walls. He also has a jumping attack of his own.

Weakness- He only takes 3 hits to knock out. However, getting those hits can be a challenge due to the spikes on his back. The player has to jump on him while he is not hiding in his shell. To do this the player has to dodge his fists, other attacks, and do not let him take flight. Fireballs can take him out but it takes a lot of fireballs or ice balls to knock him out. Like most Koopas star power can also take him out. Yoshi can take him out with eggs but like the fire and ice it takes several eggs to defeat him.

Relationships- Allies

Pom Pom- Him and Pom Pom has been confirmed to be girlfriend and boyfriend. They protect and look out for each other. In fact sometimes they serve as co-leaders of Koopa Troops or appear in battle together.

Bowser- He is loyal to Bowser and serves many roles from commander, guardian, and raiding parties. No matter what role he is put in he wants to please his master. Basically, he strives to serve and be the best he can be for Bowser.

Bowser Jr- He is loyal to Bowser's Son and recognizes he is the future king.

Koopalings- He is loyal to the Koopalings as they are Bowser's niece and nephew. He will do what they ask him to do which is usually guard their fortresses in worlds they try to take over.

Koopa Troop- even though he sometimes leads Koopa Troops he cares about them. He also gets along well with Bowser's other commanders such as the Hammer Bros. He respects the Hammer Bros due to their power and leadership ability.

Enemies

Mario and Luigi- He does not get along with Mario or his brother Luigi. This is because they interfere with Bowser's plans and have foiled Bowser's attempts to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom.

Yoshi- He does not get along well with Yoshi because like the brothers Yoshi has defeated Bowser and foiled his plans as well. He sees the brothers and Yoshi as always getting in the way.

Peach- His relationship with Peach is complex. He is often used to kidnap her but he is does not hurt her due to Bowser's orders. On the other hand, he sees her as the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and a threat to Bowser.

Daisy, Birdo, and others- He does not get along well with Daisy, Birdo and other allies to the heroes. This is because they have helped the heroes defeat Bowser in one way or another.

Boom Boom made his debut in Super Mario Bros 3 and has appeared in several games since then. As time has gone on the different games has expanded on his personality, abilities, and relationships. In his first game not much was known about him. Since then it has been revealed that he is a leader type in the Koopa Army, and is versatile. He cares about his girlfriend which shows he has a softer side.

In conclusion, he is a formidable opponent due to the power of his attacks and his defense abilities. He seems to learn new attacks with each game. This implies that he is a quick learner or trains harder. All he wants is to be the best for Bowser and his family. He also wants to be the best boyfriend to his girlfriend Pom Pom.
