Wigglers are caterpillar enemies that have become common in Mario games. They are mostly part of Bowser's Minions. They made their debut in Super Mario World. Since their first appearance they have become a common enemy in Mario games, so lets learn about this common enemy.

As stated Wigglers made their first debut in Super Mario World. In that game they appeared in the forest levels. Most of the time Wigglers are part of Bowser's Minions, but not always. In their early games they mostly appeared in forest or woodland levels. However, since then they appear in a lot of other stages. Most of the time they march back and forth.

In later games it is shown that Wigglers as they mature turn into Flutters. Flutters are butterfly like creatures that have fangs and will fly around. Like Wigglers if they are stepped on they become angry and will chase the player. Wigglers if stopped on will turn dark red and march faster. They will try to run into Mario and his friends.

However, Wigglers are not always enemies. In some of the Mario Party Games Wigglers and their mature state Flutters operate shops the characters can buy items for. Other times they host games that the player can compete in to win prizes.

Appearances- Wigglers are mostly yellow/orange caterpillars. They have lots of feet and are usually seen wearing purple sneakers on their feet. They tend to have brown freckles on their forehead. In addition, on top of their head there is usually a flower of some type.

However, if a player steps on a Wiggler or wakes it up it will turn dark red. In some versions the flower on top of their head comes off, and in some games it does not. When they are angered they will not just turn read but steam will come out of their noise.

Personality- Wigglers when they are not angered have a gentile personality. It is shown they love the forest, and they even love to garden. They are pretty laid back and like to take life easy. When they are stepped on they become full of rage, and will try to hurt the player anyway they can.

Abilities- It is shown in future games they are excellent gardeners as they use their feet to dig. They are also at walking around and maintaining the nature levels they are usually found in. When turned in rage they can become violent, and run toward the player. They have decent speed even when not enraged. When they turn into Flutters they maintain most of their personality. Except when they are stepped on then they will dive at the player.

Attacks/Moves- If they are not provoked they will just run back and forth causing no problems. When they are angered they will start to move toward the player in a fast motion. They try to run into the player. As a Flutter if enraged they will dive at the player.

Weakness- Fireballs and ice do not really impact Wigglers. However, they are easily defeated by Yoshii eating them. They are also weak to star power.

Relationships

Allies

Boweser- Wigglers serve Bowser and work for him. They understand their role is to slow Mario, Luigi and Yoshii down. Bowser in one game called Wiggler one of his trusted minions.

Bowser Jr. Wigglers are on very good terms with Bowser's son. In a few games the younger Bowser summoned Wiggler. These wigglers called him lord Bowser. IN other games they called him the heir to the Koopa Kingdom.

The Koopalings- Given how the Koopalings are Bowser's Nephews and nieces Wigger serves them as well. They have also summoned Wiggler at times.

Enemies-

Mario, Luigi, and Yoshiee Sometimes Wiggler is an enmy to these three as they often have to knock him out to get to Bowser. However, a lot of times Wiggler/Flutter will even sell stuff to Mario and his friends.

Yoshii- Yoshii and Wiggler have a complex relationship. In some games they are friends. On the other hand, they are usually portrayed as enemies. It is revealed that Yoshii's love to eat Wigglers. This is most likely why Wiggler is more hostile to Yoshii.

Overall, Wigglers and their mature version Flutters have been in Mario games since they debuted in Super Mario World. They are now mostly seen in forestry and nature levels. In addition, they are part of Bowser's Minions and work for him. But as I stated sometimes they serve as salesman. Wigglers are generally harmless and just walk on their cliffs and try to run into Mario. In this case they are enemies but its like they are just there.
