It's time for a review of another Neptunia game. Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is the most recent Neptunia game in the west and it's also, for now, the most recent Neptunia game in general, next week a new Neptunia game will be released in Japan but at least for a few days, this will still be the most recent Neptunia game. Anyway, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is another action RPG like the previous game Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters, the game is kind of different compared to the last game (but also has similar aspects) and the result is...interesting. Let's begin.

Story: In Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution, the main character is Older Neptune, also known as ''Adult Neptune'', the other Neptune who had her first appearance in Megadimension Neptunia VII, in the world of Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution, different game companies, known as Makers, are constantly competing with each other for shares, or share energy, the source of the power of the goddesses, in this game ''a new Game Maker steps into the fray, attempting to endure the battle for survival in Gamindustri.'' That Maker is Victory, the new company led by Older Neptune, she became the CEO of the company where 3 new characters, known as ''failure goddesses'', are working wanting to make fun games, and the new characters, Pippih, Jagaa and Reedio are based on video game consoles that sold poorly (Pippin, Jaguar and 3DO respectively). The story is less dark compared to Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters and other Neptunia games, in fact, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution isn't really a dark game until the final chapters, near the end of the game it's when it really gets dark more or less, but overall, the story has its (fun) moments and it's always a game that makes you want to see what happens next. Other Neptunia games are darker but at the end of the day, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution also has a fun and good, even great, story. It even has different dynamics between the characters compared to other games, the sisters of Noire, Neptune and Blanc are basically indie developers in this game and also, Compa and IF don't exist in this game, which means that Neptune and Nepgear have to work without their help, overall, at least an 8/10 for this category.

Sound: Eh...the game isn't better than previous games when it comes to sound in general, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution uses the same sound effects previously used in Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters, and for the most part, the music is recycled (again), there are many original themes, yes, but the use of ''Minicar'', ''Nepgear's theme'', ''Lite Light'', ''Planet's Odyssey'' etc is evidence that Compile Heart doesn't care if more than 50% of the soundtrack is recycled music...that's not all, compared to other Neptunia games, the choice of music for the maps/dungeons is often questionable, I don't know who had the idea of using ''Planet's Odyssey'' for the desert, but that theme is unfitting for that area...I cannot stress this enough...the use of that music for the desert is very, very jarring and it's simply a theme that shouldn't have been used for that area, there are more examples but that's the worst instance of unfitting music in the game. Like other games, this category is saved by the voice acting, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution has an amazing English dub, the new characters have fitting voices with great voice acting, Pippih, for example, is voiced by Deneen Melody, the same voice actress who voiced Rotten Dollhart in Death end re;Quest 2, so, of course she's great as Pippih. If I want to say more about the music, well...the original music is good, yes, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution definitely has good original music, but the heavy use of recycled music (even more so than other games), bad/unfitting music choices and how it doesn't stand out when it comes to sound effects...6/10 or 7/10 at best, that's for sure.

Graphics: One of the best aspects of the game. Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution has a beautiful art style with 2D art by Tsunako and Katsuyuki Hirano, the characters look really nice during the events and the use of Live2D means more animation than other games. Like Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters and Super Neptunia RPG, Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution was developed with Unity and the result is one of the best looking games of the franchise, it looks kind of bad or not that good at times (that temple is one example, the area which recycles History of Collapse isn't good graphically speaking, the graphics are kind of bad in that area) but for the most part, the game has great graphics and it looks better than other Nintendo Switch games including other games published by IFI.

Addictive: Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a ''quirky action RPG'', that's how it's described on the back of the box. Unlike Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters you usually have access to 4 different playable characters at any given time, and you can switch between the 4 characters with the d-pad, the combat is similar to what was previously seen in Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters with the difference that there are now up to 4 playable characters instead of 3, that said, thare are new mechanics or differences between Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution and the last game, and as you can imagine, in this game the creation of discs (games) is something important in the game, like in other games, you can create discs which can be equipped to enhance the abilities of the characters, but here you'll really need to create discs in order to progress with the story, as the game progresses you'll acquire more developers to create more discs for Victory, you can improve the development environment, you can influence or change market trends...it's a game with more mechanics or features than other games, it even has optional races if you want to get money or items. However, even with all the gameplay features and mechanics, it's a game less fun or enjoyable to play than other games, and that's partially because, compared to Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisers, the discs can only be created in Victory, in a specific menu and not all the time, depending on the progression of the story or the things you've done in the game, there will be times where you'll just have to wait at least 3 minutes for the development to finish, you don't have anything else to do because you're done with other objectives for now or have already bought better, more recent equipment (weapons and accesories), so, just wait for the disc...if it sounds kind of boring on paper, it is, and yeah, it's only a few minutes, but it's a fact that there were several times where I was just waiting for the development of a disc to finish, not doing anything else or checking YouTube in the meantime. With all that said, it's a fun game with enjoyable action combat, fun races and mechanics taken from Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters (safe areas and the use of an item that can only be used in the save points), but almost everything, including gameplay, could be better.

Depth: It took me more than 50 hours to beat Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution, and that's partially because I intentionally did optional quests and won 2 races, there is a lot of optional content in the game, and it also has different paths (branching story), so, it's a game with a lot of replay value and content, if you want to do everything, definitely at least 70-85 hours or something.

Difficulty: The game doesn't have difficulty levels (like other Neptunia games) but for the most part it's an easy game, I would say that you'll have to grind if you want to beat the game, grinding is required to beat Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution to be honest, in any case, you'll only lose a few times throughout the game, at worst, 6 or 7 times. It might be more difficult than Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters but that's not saying much.

Like other Neptunia games, in particular the first game for PS3, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 and even MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies (which I really like), Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a mess of a game with several flaws or negative aspects, there is a lot to criticize about Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution, but still, I really like the game more or less, it's not better than Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters and Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online for example, but the game is enjoyable enough to be considered a good game and 7.5/10 is something I'm willing to give the game. The game also has a (bad) Spanish translation and it's the first Neptunia game for consoles with an official Spanish translation, however, the quality of said translation made me want to play the game with the English text and that's what I did, but yeah, the game also has text in Spanish and French. I recommend Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution even if you aren't a Neptunia fan, if you have never played a Neptunia game before, the most recent game is a good entry point.
