Reverse Memories is a recent visual novel published by Navila Software Japan, it's my first game published by said publisher, Navila Software Japan has published several games for Nintendo Switch but I hadn't played a game published by Navila Software Japan...until now. As far as I know, Reverse Memories is, at least for now, a Nintendo Switch exclusive, the game even shows you the Switch itself when you look at the controls in the game and yes, we don't have a Steam or PS4 version, at least not yet, maybe someday, who knows. This review will be, more or less, a break from my usual reviews in the sense that when it comes to fan service or that kind of content, Reverse Memories is very tame, yes, the game has fan service to an extent, but compared to many other games, Nekopara (even the console versions), Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, Mary Skelter, Otomedius Excellent, and many more, this game barely has fan service, and it's true, I'll say it right now: This game only has 3 images of a female character in a specific position, those 3 images are definitely suggestive and can make someone raise an eyebrow, and also, MAYBE the image of that character wearing wet clothes could be considered fan service...maybe, said image (used very early in the game) is very tame. With all that said...let's begin.

Story: It's very hard to talk about a visual novel and its story without giving important information or spoilers, and the fact that Reverse Memories is a recent game (Released in July this year) does not help. Let's just say that the story in Reverse Memories is very engaging, the game has several twists and, at least the first time you play the game, you really want to know what will happen next, it's a very interesting and engaging story with a few funny moments or lines, but for the most part, Reverse Memories has a serious story with romance and drama, I love it, it's definitely at least an 8 for this category, maybe a 9 at best. The description for the game says: ''Yu Sheng, a teenager who has lost memories of his past, returns to his childhood town to search for what he has ‘lost’. He meets Yi Yao, and it’s love at first sight. At the Summer Festival, he shyly confesses, and she accepts. But the next day Yi Yao loses all her memories of him. Will he be able to find the truth as he wanders through the corridors of memory?'' Something I want to say is that, after doing everything in Reverse Memories (unlock all CG images in the gallery, use every possible option in the game...), I...don't really like the cast for the most part, even though the story is very clear when you finish the game (twice...) when it comes to the different motivations of each character and all that stuff, I'm still not a big fan of the cast for the most part, most characters are unlikeable and...I can say for sure that not everyone will like these characters considering their personalities, motivations, and who knows what else, in my opinion, the best characters in the game are Yu Sheng and the librarian, that girl with the blue (and short) hair, blue glasses and, well, her design is associated with the color blue and I love her design, we don't see her much in the story, if someone asks the question ''is the librarian an important character?'' the best answer I can give without spoiling much is ''yes and no'', and even though Yu Sheng barely interacts with that girl, she (Lilice) is definitely my favorite female character in the game, and no, I'm not saying that only because she wears glasses and her design has a lot of the color blue...Reverse Memories is a game best played knowing as little as possible...maybe, that depends on what you think about spoilers or if you care about them or not...

Graphics: As always with visual novels developed in Asia, Reverse Memories looks nice, although it's true that it's not on part with the Nekopara games or even the Xblaze games (released for PS3 and PS Vita several years ago) it's still a game with good graphics and detailed character designs. The CG images look great (more or less) and I also like the minimalist interface. The lack of animation (the characters don't even blink), not to mention the art style itself and/or graphics are things that can't make me give this category a higher number, but yeah, I can't say that the game looks bad, it looks good enough (at least) and it deserves a 7 in this category.

Sound: Definitely an 8 at best. Reverse Memories has an enjoyable soundtrack very fitting for the game, the game has good music and the soundtrack is a little memorable, it's more memorable than the soundtrack found in some Nekopara games at least. Unfortunately, it seems that the soundtrack isn't available on the internet, at least not yet. Unlike other visual novels, Reverse Memories doesn't have the function to listen to the music in the game itself, which is a bummer...some kind of sound test, Jukebox, or whatever, would have been nice. Another thing that must be mentioned is that Reverse Memories only has Chinese voice acting, Reverse Memories should be a Chinese visual novel, or at least something very close to that, and so, the voice acting is in Chinese, not Japanese. English voice acting would be nice, but beggars can't be choosers. I...think that the voice acting is great for the most part, but...yeah, I'm not the best judge of Chinese voices, Reverse Memories is the only game I've played with Chinese Voice acting (assuming that the voices really are in Chinese), at least for now...

Addictive: It's a visual novel, for the most part it's just reading dialogue and Reverse Memories is almost a kinetic visual novel, there are only 2 instances where you must choose a dialog option or something similar, but other than that, it's a visual novel and not much else.

Depth: If you want to do everything in Reverse Memories, I would say that you would have to play the game for at least 7, 8 or 9 hours...at least. Reverse Memories, being a visual novel with a price tag of $6.99 (it costs less than $100 pesos in Mexico), is a longer game than one might initially think. It's still a game that doesn't offer much of course, but for what it is, it's decent more or less, definitely a 6 at best.

Difficulty: Having the will to play more is probably the hardest part of this game...it's a visual novel with few endings and it's shorter than other games in the genre...a blank space is, again, fine...

Reverse Memories is an engaging and interesting visual novel, it's better than other games in the genre (if we want to consider this a video game genre), and I guess I can recommend it if you are a fan of visual novels, a rating of 6 for the game is only because this is my least favorite genre, but I can definitely say that this should be a great game for fans of the genre, I would like to give Reverse Memories a higher rating, but I can't only because of my taste in games. The lack of a sound test or something to let you listen to the music in the game, the lack of English voices and, yes, the cast itself (I don't like those 3 characters that much...), are bad things about the game or things I don't like about Reverse Memories, but the nice graphics, enjoyable soundtrack, and interesting story make the game worth playing in its entirety at least once.
