I'm back with a review of Nekopara Extra. A while ago I wrote a review of the Nintendo Switch version of Nekopara Vol. 2 and even though Nekopara Extra is included with the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions of Nekopara Vol. 2, I got the original Steam version of Nekopara Extra...yes, I got another copy of Nekopara Extra just to have something else to review...let's begin.

Story: Nekopara Extra is, we could say, the true prequel of Nekopara, sure, Nekopara Vol. 0 also takes place before the events of Nekopara Vol. 1 but this game is even further back in the story of the games, this is taken from its Steam page: ''About half a year before the opening of the patisserie, La Soleil where the catgirls work with Kashou. Back when Chocola and Vanilla were still kittens when they first arrived at the Minaduki household and before they opened up to the other catgirls.'' This game is several months before Nekopara Vol. 1 and, well, the story is a little interesting and it has its moving and...charming moments I guess? I don't know. It really is when Chocola and Vanilla didn't open to the other characters yet. It's a short story and it barely qualifies as good (I'd say), but a barely deserved 7 is still a 7, it's a decent and short story and it's actually a little better than other games in the franchise. The humor is great and the game made me laugh several times at least, Cinnamon talking about her boobs made me laugh and, even though I don't like her voice, I can't deny that she has a funny personality. As always, it's a funny game, that said, I don't have much more to say for this section...

Graphics: The game has beautiful and detailed 2D art, the characters in Nekopara Extra look amazing and the fact that there are new designs for the cast is something I appreciate, a lot. The backgrounds look good enough and the frequent animations and different facial expressions make this an expressive game, like the rest of the series, Nekopara Extra is an expressive game. I don't have complaints about the graphics...it looks great.

Sound: Itazura Koneko, Neko To Sanpo, Cat Work...the okay music is back, I've said before that in my opinion the music of Nekopara is unremarkable, it's not bad music but it's not good music either, the music is usually okay or decent, and it's not very memorable either, even when it comes to the slice-of-life genre and music that can be used in an everyday situation or something like that, there are better examples, just listen to the music of Omega Quintet, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Atelier, Blue Reflection, and Xblaze, for example. The fact that there is a lot of recycled music that I don't even like that much means that I'm not willing to give this category a high number, and of course, there's also the voice acting...Nekopara Extra only has Japanese voice acting, which is something I don't like...the voice acting is genuinely annoying at times. I silenced Cinnamon, yes...that's to be expected, but here, because of the fact that Chocola and Vanilla are just kittens, their voices here sound higher, Chocola's voice actress in particular really used a higher pitch for her character in this game, and well, I guess that those voices are fitting, but in this game, even Chocola sounds annoying! In other games, there are only brief moments where she sounds annoying but here it's something more frequent or consistent, and as a result, I also silenced her, so, I played most of the game without the voices of Chocola and Cinnamon...I have no regrets...there is only one original theme used in the game during the story (I'm not talking about the menus and opening/credit sequences), and that should be the theme used when Kashou, Chocola and Vanilla are praying...the rest of the background music is recycled...

Addictive: Another kinetic visual novel with an enjoyable story and characters, there aren't any decisions to make, and it's just reading dialogue...it's ironic that I've played several Nekopara games considering that this is a sub-genre in what is definitely my least favorite genre in video games but...I can find some enjoyment in reading the Nekopara games, and like other games in the franchise, I can say for sure that the game is worth playing from beginning to end at least once.

Depth: Nekopara Extra is slightly longer than Nekopara Vol. 0, and it should take at least a little over an hour to finish, maybe little less than three hours at most (in my case), most people will probably finish the game in around one hour and a half or around two hours at most, so, the short version is: It's slightly longer than Nekopara Vol. 0 and also shorter than the other games. Too bad that the game doesn't have unlockable CG images with chibi designs unlike the other games, all the unlockable images show the characters with their normal designs, but the chibi designs aren't used in Nekopara Extra...

Difficulty: A blank space is fitting as we already know, this is a kinetic visual novel, anyone can finish this game...

Nekopara Extra is an enjoyable, more or less, kinetic visual novel, it works better as a prequel than Nekopara Vol. 0 and it's an enjoyable read as a result, not to mention the good characters and funny moments. I still think that the best part of this game, and the other games, is the graphics, but in any case, I don't regret my time with Nekopara Extra, I got the game on sale in April this year, and I enjoyed reading Nekopara Extra. If you don't have Nekopara Vol. 2 on a console (Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch) and only have the PC versions of these games, I guess I can recommend Nekopara Extra, especially if it's on sale, if you already have one of the console versions of Nekopara Vol. 2 you don't need to get Nekopara Extra for PC, and yes, if you hate visual novels, get another game, but if you are a Nekopara fan or are a fan of visual novels and, somehow, haven't played Nekopara Extra...this is an enjoyable prequel...the fact that those two screenshots I tried to post don't appear is annoying...uhm, anyway...that is all for now.
