Choplifter is one of those retro shooter games that while lacks story, makes up for good gameplay.

In the graphics department, this has detailed sprites. "But these graphics are overwhelmingly small!" you might say, but in reality yes, these are small sprites but they sure have detail & even animation! Not to mention that paralax scrolling in the background and the foreground.

Sound? Now out of all the System 1/2 games I've played the sound is actually great! The game even went so far as to add voice lines which while the quality is...ok at best, you can make up what they're saying. From the "thank you" hostages say when entering the helicopter, to maniacal laughter whenever a hostage dies inside your helicopter, this game must've pushed the System 1/2 in the sound department. Besides that, the tracks here are catchy and good, but not great.

As you can expect from an early arcade shooter game the addictiveness is through the roof! Destroying enemy vehicles feels good, along with rescuing hostages--the objective of the game is simple, yet addictive, which contributes to why this game is good.

The difficulty here is hard, but not too hard. There are certain enemies you will meet that are in the foreground shooting at you in a tank, or a moving jeep with an anti-air gun mounted on the back of it in the background, which moves fast & can take out your helicopter with ease. The most common enemy you will see are the jets. While these are hard to hit, especially when you consider that the controls feel heavy, their "bullets" are easy to dodge.
