Any of you fellow adults messed with the stock market now that everything is crashing? It's the perfect time to buy with most stocks having dropped 50 percent or more over the last month.

I have played around with the markets, getting a bunch of shares that are normally $7-10 for under $4.

It's a really good way for people who are losing money to stay afloat in the long run.

I haven't bothered doing anything yet. I don't think we've hit the bottom of the drop-off and there is a good chance some of these companies will end up going out of business.

I'd rather not spend money I can't spare getting into the market right now. I need all the money I have.

I can see the value of it though. So much value is gone in the market and if things turn around soon enough then I could see a good opportunity to make a lot of money but I'm too risk averse for this sort of thing

zanderlex :
You make a good point, but I'm going to refrain from doing so.
I've always had really terrible luck with stocks.

I used to be into it, but I've never really been attentive with it and I called it quits.
Growing up in school, we did a stock market game for economics,
using real stocks with fake money, and I ended up in last place.
My teacher joked that if you want advice on what *not* to invest in, you should come to me.

But, good luck to you.

I'm not, but I've considered doing so.

A big part of why I haven't is a lack of belief in the economy going forward. I feel like the value of the dollar is going to get even lower than it already is, and that there's not much point of investing until a more positive outlook is in sight.

legacyme3 : Even if the economy doesn't go back to normal or it takes a really long time, it may still be worth it. Has to go up eventually, even if it takes years.

Let's say a stock that's normally $20 each is only $8 each now. If it never reaches $20 again but normalizes at like $13 months after everything goes back to normal, that would still be a win.

Honestly it’s a tad too risky to think about putting my money in stocks at this moment. Stocks at my job (Goodyear) just keep dropping, especially with the pandemic going and I’m without a job. I prefer to put them in a certificate of deposit since it’s safer and guarantees a money increase, tho I can’t get my money back in a certain time.

becerra95 : Did the stock price drop because of the virus or because The company is failing? Buying stocks of companies that are hurt by the virus is almost win-win because they have to normalize one day.

I put around $500 into BJ's restaurants just a couple days ago.

In February, stocks were $40 each. Been hovering with a $30-40 average since 2010.

When the virus hit, stock crashed to $6.54 per share on March 18th which was when I got them and it already started returning to normal, closed this week at $19 per share.

It’s been steadily dropping since last year if I recall (you can check Goodyear’s stock history if you want) but since the outbreak it plundered a bit more and I’m just wondering whether it’s a good idea to even invest in the market knowing how things won’t be the same for a long time

Oh boy, the stocks have been absolutely crazy the last couple days. The sad part is that the 3 stocks that are going super crazy, Gamestop, AMC, and NAKD, are the 3 stocks that I was big into back in March and April.

Last year on April 3rd I put $100 into Gamestop when it was $2.90 per share and in the middle of April I put $100 into AMC when it was just under $5 per share. After a couple months I sold at $13 and $8. So I really missed out. I still have a couple Gamestop shares left though, but the Robinhood app is broken and I can't sell anything.

However, NAKD could be my saving grace. I bought NAKD multiple times last year when it was like 40 cents each and 50 cents each but the fun thing is that I basically closed my account. I used to have an account on TD Ameritrade but the website wasn't that great so I switched to Robinhood and in June I sold everything I owned in TD and withdraw all the money so I could put it into Robinhood and rebuy the same stocks.

So I had nothing left in TD. But last night I heard about NAKD going up and I logged into TD to see how much I sold it for, and by some miracle, I had shares of NAKD sitting in my account, the only company that I had shares in. Apparently 3 months after I sold everything, I logged back into TD for some reason.

I had money in my account because I was paid old dividends after I sold everything but it wasn't enough to withdraw so I put it all into NAKD, which was at 14 cents per share at the time, and now it's above $3.
