Fishing is one of the 3 main ways to make money in Stardew Valley. But it's tough right? You need to use energy to fish and after you catch a fish you have to decide what to do with it. Do you sell it for money or use it to replenish your energy so you can fish more? Many of the fish aren't even worth that much to begin with, they'll give you a low amount of energy when you eat them or they'll give you a small sum of gold when you sell them.
But there are two fish that are OP that can be found in the mines, they are the Ghostfish and the Stonefish. The Ghostfish sells for very little but the amount of energy you get from eating 1 is 2-3 times higher than other fish. The Stonefish can't be eaten but can be sold for a ton.
There are three things that you need to make this work best but only 1 of them is mandatory.
1. Iridium Rod. This is one of the best rods in the game and it let's you attach things like bait and spinners. It only costs around 8,000g so it isn't too difficult to get and you'll be making that money back in no time at all.
2. Bait. You're going to want bait because it shortens the time it takes to hook something. You'll also need a rod that accepts bait. Bait is easy to get all you have to do is kill bugs in the mine.
3. Level 20 in the mines. This is the only thing that is mandatory. You need to make your way down to level 20 in the mines which is where the lake is located. Once you access it for the 1st time, you can fast travel there from the mine entrance.
Now you're ready to collect some gold.
After one full day of fishing, I grabbed 16 Ghostfish and 4 Stonefish. I didn't even have to worry about eating any of the fish because I was also grabbing Algae, which is better in the mines. In the mines, you can fish up White Algae which gives you 20 energy each, opposed to 13 from Green Algae.
Because I didn't have to worry about energy I sold all the Stonefish that I caught and stored all the Ghostfish for later use. I could have sold all of the Ghostfish but they have a much lower sell rate. Their base is 45g each. Better rarities and my skill boost would have pushed my total to just under 1000g for 16 Ghostfish. But the real prize is the energy benefits.
The average fish will get you anywhere from 13-30 energy each, but these are on a whole other level. I had a few purple ones and most were gold and all 16 added up to a whopping 1200 or an average of 75 each. At my skill level that's enough for 4 full energy refreshes.
The 4 Stonefishes netted me a grand total of 2248g, which is incredible. Plus it's not like you have to sacrifice farming or other aspects, this day of fishing was done after watering and harvesting crops, so it's win win.
Do this every day and it becomes an easy 50,000g to 75,000g per in game month from fishing alone without having to sacrifice farming, and a virtually infinite supply of energy.
Because this is done inside of the mines, you can also mine or dig before or after fishing. If you spend just an hour mining you will be able to also get your hands on some of the valuable gems or any rocks and ore you might need in addition to the benefits you gain from fishing.
There are just two things that you need to keep an eye on, time and space. You don't want to mine after midnight because it takes a lot of time to get back to your farm. If you're still out at 2 AM you will knock out and lose some of your gold anf maybe an item. Unless you have the minecart unlocked you want to give yourself enough time to get back home.
You also don't want to bring too much stuff with you, just tools you need and one type of food because you will use up space quickly with all the fish you catch and items that you reel in or mine. You don't want to be forced to drop something. Not only will the item you drop be gone forever, but you lose some time too.
If you keep yourself balanced, this will be a great way to earn money and energy. I would spend around 3 hours farming and the rest of the day in the level 20 mine 25 days out of the month.
