World of Final Fantasy is one of the few games where I have a copy for a bunch of different systems. I remember when it first came out, I was really excited about it, so much that I even remember which Gamestop I bought it from and who I was with that day. I played it so much on the Vita and then in December 2018 I picked up the Limited Edition copy of the game for PS4. Then about 6 weeks ago I grabbed this copy for the Switch and started all over again.

It's definitely one of my 2 most favorite Final Fantasy games of all time, if not number 1. I loved everything about it, the unique combat system, the unique size system, the large assortment of mirages, the artwork, and the story. It felt like a thoroughly enjoyable game so I was really glad that I got into it.

But what is the game about? It follows the lives of a brother and sister duo, though they don't actually remember their lives. They are mirage keepers, basically able to take mirages and use them as their own. A good chunk of the game is them trying to remember bits and pieces of who they are, the world that they live in, where they come from, and their family. This kind of follows a similar structure to memories in Breath of the Wild.

GRAPHICS: 10/10

The graphics were something that I really enjoyed for a bunch of reasons. There was a lot of detail with the backgrounds and animations first of all. For example, when you're in the snowy area before the ice ridge, it just looks beautiful, you see snow falling, you see trees and mountains off in the distance, and the sun glows. The dungeons and many of the maps are vibrant and full of color too.

When you're in the middle of combat, the detail put in the surrounding environment is pretty as well and the animations work like a charm. I also really like the designs of the characters as well and the fact that you can switch between them. You get to see the twins in their normal form but you also get to see them and the hundreds of other people in tiny, adorable, funko pop forms, which look great.

SOUND: 10/10

The entire sound aspect of World of Final Fantasy is amazing. First of all you have the voice acting, which is amazing. You have fully voiced acting and it's both in English and Japanese, with your ability to choose. Not only do cut scenes and story scenes have voiced dialogue, but you can be walking around and the characters will just start talking. With the original versions of the game, you only had Japanese voice acting, you had to buy and download the English voice acting, which also came with the day one edition. But the Maxine edition came with it already installed.

The sounds of the game are also a nice feature. Wherever you are there's some kind of sound. For example when you're in the tea room, you'll hear a clock ticking. You also get a nice assortment of dungeon sounds and combat sounds that make the game feel a bit more immersive. Lastly you have the music. Wherever you are there's a nice tune playing. I wouldn't exactly call any of the songs in the soundtrack memorable but many of them are pretty good.

ADDICTIVENESS: 9/10

World of Final Fantasy is such an addicting game, for those who are fans of Final Fantasy and even for those who aren't. It's pretty much your standard RPG but with a few cool twists such as the unique combat system and the unique character system that allows you to change character type. The game is just like Pokemon and Digimon and Persona where you get to catch creatures, train them, and battle them. In this game they are called mirages and there are so many for you to obtain and train.

If you played Pokemon and enjoyed training them, then you will like leveling up dozens of mirages. I'll admit that you will have a hard time finding reasons to go back to areas that you've already been, but if you're trying to grind or obtain mirages that you haven't yet, it's not a bad idea. The only thing that I don't like is the timing between combat occurrences. You could go across the entire map without a single occurrence. Other tines you might battle a mirage every two steps. It's not consistent and can get tedious when you're trying to go through an area quickly and are constantly ambushed or when you're trying to grind and there's nothing to battle.

DEPTH: 8/10

This game has a pretty decent scope when it comes to things to do. For starters you have a very large assortment of mirages to obtain and train. Then when you're in combat, there's an endless array of combinations as to how you go about using them. The mirages that you bring into combat are only half the battle because how you stack them and the skills you unlock also changes the outcome of each battle.

Next you have the sheer size of the world. It's not exactly open and each map is relatively small, but there are so many regions, dungeons, and towns for you to explore. Another big aspect of depth is that you can go to the main menu and re watch all of the cut scenes and major story moments as you unlock them, more than 250 in total, so there's a decent amount of stuff in this game.

DIFFICULTY: 3

it's just like any other RPG. If you get to a part that's too challenging and the mirages are too high a level, all you have to do is go back to easier areas and grind until your own mirages are much stronger. It does take a bit of strategy though because you need to figure out not only the best mirage lineup for each battle but also the best stack options. You also need to level up skills wisely. Other than that, the game is super easy, mostly just story and content with a ton of battles thrown around.

OVERALL: 9.2/10

Overall, World of Final Fantasy Maximus is a great game. If you're a fan of Final Fantasy, you should definitely play it, especially because it involves characters from other games. If you aren't a fan of Final Fantasy or you never played the games to begin with, you should still give it a try because you never know. Even if you don't have a Switch, you can still play the game on other consoles and it's priced well too so you don't really have an excuse not to play it. I liked it a lot and my overall grade is going to be a 9.2 out of 10.

I really loved playing this game, it is a fun past time and I enjoy how it reminds me of pokemon in a way. It is definitely different from the other games in the franchise but in a very good way. Thanks for taking the time to write this review!
