I have always been a mediocre fan of Adventure Time. I was pretty into it when it first began but over time I started to watch it less and less while still keeping up with it. One day I was in Best Buy and saw that there was a new Adventure Time game, and I was hearing good things about it, so I picked up a PS4 copy and I really enjoyed it.

About 2 months ago I traded that copy into Game stop and was able to get the Switch version in return and had no problem playing everything all over again, in fact it got me back into the series again which allowed for me to become more invested in the characters.

Pirates of the Enchiridion is pretty much exactly what you would expect from an Adventure Time game in terms of what it's about, and it lets you explore the land of Ooo but from a different perspective because the entire area is flooded leaving just a handful of kingdoms with nothing but water everywhere else. Most of the game is simply finding out what caused the flood and figuring out how to fix everything.

Along the way, there is a ton of other side stories and quests that make good use of your favorite Adventure Time characters and it really makes it seem like it's just another season of the show rather than a video game because of the story, content, and characters.

GRAPHICS: 9/10

For the most part, I enjoyed the way that the game looked, even if 90 percent of the time, you're just looking at nothing but water. But when you are in 1 of the kingdoms, everything is full of color and detail, making it look like it's really straight out of the show. The only thing that I didn't really like about the graphics was that there were some times where the character models looked kinda wonkus.

SOUND: 10/10

The sound of Pirates of the Enchiridion is probably my favorite part of the game because it merges lots of sound aspects from the show while also adding a lot from the Pirates genre. For example, there are times where you can hear classic tunes that you'd hear from the show. Then there are other times where swashbuckling music will play, some of which sound oddly like what you'd expect from Pirates of the Caribbean, which sets the mood and tone nicely.

When you look beyond the music, you have the voice acting, and there's lot of it. There's fully voiced dialoige, you might even be just in your boat going from 1 Kingdom to the next and Finn or Jake would start talking or even singing. I also really enjoy the fact that the characters are in fact voiced by the actual voice actors of the show, which is a nice touch. Lastly, there's a lot of jokes and show references that are voiced throughout the game and hearing one of Jakes jokes or Finn's remarks is another nice way to feel like it's just an extension of the show.

ADDICTIVENESS: 7/10

I wouldn't exactly call this game addicting because there isn't truly a reason to start from the beginning and the long boating trips from one Kingdom to the next can get boring after a while. I had no problem starting over because not only did I really enjoy the story and many of the jokes, but I didn't finish the game on the PS4 so I had a little extra motivation. But other than that, the game is really fun when you have a goal in mind, when you're completing a quest, or when you're battling, but when you're done and have nothing left to do, it becomes a drag trying to keep playing. On the other hand, if you love the show and characters, you wouldn't have a problem starting over or continuing to play.

DEPTH: 7/10

There's a decent amount of stuff to do in Pirates of the Enchiridion, so it might take a while before you are actually bored. First of all, the map is actually pretty big. There's so much water to explore with a decent amount of islands and kingdoms that are all a decent size with a number of things to do inside such as battle, collect, and quests. The number of stories and quests anf characters for you to encounter and meet isn't too shabby either.

DIFFICULTY: 3

If you are in fact a fan of the show, then everything is going to be easy to follow and pretty self explanatory. The only real challenge would just be the amount of time that it takes to get from 1 place to another. After a while it becomes redundant and takes a lot of time and requires a bunch of patience.

OVERALL: 8/10

Overall I'm going to give Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion a good 8 out of 10. Like most games that are based on other media, this isn't really a game that you would understand or like if you aren't already a fan of the show. If you are a fan of the show, you might be able to spend hours upon hours enjoying the exploration aspect and travelling throughout Ooo or the extra content that supplements the show. For the price, the game is pretty good but if you are a fan of the show and you can get it when it's on sale, picking up a copy of this game should be a no brainer.
