I'm really happy that I picked up Cat Quest when it went on sale a few weeks ago because it's the most charming game that I've played in nearly 2 years. Once upon a time I was looking for a new RPG game to play and this one was highly recommended to me so I gave it a shot. I didn't look at any reviews or videos after it was recommended, I just played it and I fell in love with it after just half an hour or so. I loved everything about it, especially the graphics and the combat system, there was never really a dull moment when I was playing.

GRAPHICS: 10/10

To me, the graphics are perfect for a number of reasons. The environment is beautiful and for the most part it's spread out over 1 open world overworld so you can see everything. The landscapes, the town's, and the character designs are all so colorful and cute at times. The entire overworld is just a giant civilization of cats so it gets adorable quickly.

My favorite aspect of rhe graphics section is the overworld and I guess the processing. Aside for caves and dungeons, the entire game plays on one overworld, so you literally do see everything all at once. The town's are tiny and you don't actually go in them, all the enemies are visible and attackable in the overworld, and all characters are in the overworld too.

What does this mean? It means there's no loading screen going from the overworld to battles or going in and out of villages. Everything runs on the same screen and it runs smoothly too. There were plenty of times where I would be battling 5 or more enemies at once with powerful visual attacks and the game wouldn't break, everything ran smooth throughout, even though there were probably hundreds of enemies and characters loaded in at once.

SOUND: 7/10

For me, the sounds weren't really all that memorable when it came to either the music or the regular sounds. First of all many of the regular game sounds like combat and other actions were very simple and generic sounding. All though i of course took into account that it's an indie game that already had a lot of data and so much stuff working at once so it didn't really bother me all that much.

Like the regular sounds, the music was also pretty simple and generic and I didn't really hear any tunes that stuck out or got stuck in my head. None were exceptionally memorable. However, I did like some of the tunes and sounds that played when you're in the dungeons and I really liked some of the ones that played during the more dramatic scenes. From an overall standpoint, it was a decent job.

STORY: 9/10

When it comes to story, Cat Quest is a burrito. You got a nice story tortilla that's wrapping up a bunch of other stories. So what's it about? You are a cat and you live in a world of cats. Makes sense right? Wrong. Nothing you believe in is real snd everything is an illusion. Your "sister" gets taken by an evil cat and the story follows your journey to get her back as you fight this evil cat, dragons, mages, and all sorts of other characters with your new friend.

But it wouldn't be Cat QUEST if therr weren't a bunch of quests right? Each village has a quest board with a series of quests that each make up their own story. Each of these major side quests are a decent length and lots of fun and they let you piece together bits and pieces of the history and rich lore of the land, like the Kitmas quests, which are really a story within a story.

There's so many quests and they each get more and more challenging as the game goes on, so in the end you've got hours and hours of good, interesting, pun filled contest. Honestly if all the story of Cat Quest was turned into one novel, it would really be one good, thick read.

Many of these quests, especially the later ones give you a nice chunk of EXP and gold as a reward.

GRINDING 10/10

The grinding in Cat Quest is amazing, one of my favorite aspects of the game because of how easy it is to rack up gold and EXP. When you're running around the overworld, there are lots of gold and EXP lying on the ground to he picked up and there are tons of enemies to fight. These enemies all drop gold and EXP too and they redrawn after a while so you have an endless supply of money and can keep leveling up.

The caves and dungeons are just as good. There's way more enemies and gold inside of them that give you way more EXP and the moment you leave, you're free to go back in and redo the dungeon over and over. You can stop playing the game and just play the same dungeon 100 tines and you'd gain so much.

ADDICTIVENESS: 9/10

The game is so much fun, and it's very easy to go back and do everything all over again. There's so much to explore and so much to do. One thing that I really liked about the game was that there's a New Game+ mode that's called Mew Game. It lets you start the game from the beginning with all sorts of advantages or handicaps.

It's also very possible that you might beat a Mew Game+ and be interested in starting over yet again with all sorts of other advantages to change your experience even more. As a result, you might only spend like 15 hours playing the game the 1st time but when you take into account Mew Game+ and all the extra quests could cost you many more hours.

DEPTH: 9/10

I really like the scope and size of this game. The overworld is huge, taking quite some time to walk across the entire map. There's also a huge assortment of caves and dungeons, dozens of them scattered throughout the map with tons of goodies to grab. There's also a big ocean exploration aspect of the game. Half way through you're given a skill that lets you walk on water. This opens up a whole extra area that doubles the size of the map and allows for you to find even more caves abd enemies to fight.

DIFFICULTY: 2

There's almost no truly difficult aspects of this game. Sure you can casually walk into a level 99 dungeon while you're still only level 10 and you'd be killed instantly but its so easy to just go back to easier dungeons and keep doing them over and over again until you're a high enough level to keep going on. Let's say you're level 50. You can keep entering a level 70 dungeon and you can clean it over and over and before you know it, you'll be level 70 too and you'll be able to take on the harder dungeons and bosses.

OVERALL: 9.4/10

Overall, Cat Quest is a really charming and fun game that can keep you occupied for many hours. It's also really cheap, when I got it on sale I only paid around $5 from the Eshop and I got a good 30 hours out of it so from a price standpoint it was a great deal. But from an entertainment standpoint, it was an even better deal because there was so much good content, so many great cat puns, and a ton of quality moments when it came to the look, the feel, and the combat of Cat Quest. My overall grade is going to be a solid 9.4 out of 10 and I'll recommend it for anyone who likes cats or RPG's.
