Sony indeed revealed something big at the Taipei Games Show...

PlayStation 4: Hugeness Awaits

That's right, a giant dualshock 4. I don't have measurements on it, but it looks like it's somewhere between four and five feet long. Oh and did I mention that it actually works? That's right, it can connect to a PS4 and actually play games. It makes your PlayStation seem ridiculously undersized, along with your television and your...well everything. including you yourself, but you can use it! Apparently the light bar, face buttons, D buttons, and shoulder buttons work, but the sticks and touch pad are just for show. And really that the touch pad and sticks are for show goes without saying since the whole controller is just for show, working or not, but you get the idea.

Why did they make this massive beast you ask? Beats me. In fact nobody really seems to know. I guess because they can? Either that or they wanted to steal the title of most ridiculously oversized controller from the Duke. Or get into the Guiness book of world records. Or all three really.
But if you think about it, it seems practical enough... just invite eleven friends over and each one can man a button! Gaming doesn't get more cooperative than that.

Below you can see some more pictures and even a video of it in use. What do you bet that this thing doesn't see a commercial release?

She's either really tiny, or that thing is absolutely massive... actually it looks like a bit of both to be honest.

Nothing witty to say here, but it took all of my self restraint to avoid making a really bad 90's song reference about those big buttons...so just count your blessings.

Incredible. Too bad they chose to play Parappa on it.

And on a related note, here's the sizzle reel they played at the show for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita.

PlayStation always has a big spectacular entrance at the Taipei Games show. Last year the president of PlayStation's Asia department Cosplayed as Nathan Drake, and came swinging on stage from a rope. Why can't we get Shawn Layden to pull a stunt like that? Though I guess his reveal for Crash last E3 was pretty good in it's own right.

Man, all this crazy stuff. It's just one of the reasons PlayStation is so awesome.

That's a big controller. When will we expect to see these being sold?

Don't you diss on my main G, Parappa. You just gotta believe, d00d.

This is amazing.Although I don't get the point, it is still pretty cool.

Wow, that's really huge. lol What a giant controller! XD I don't know if I would necessarily want to obtain a controller like that (not sure I have room for it next to my TV =P ), but maybe if they tell us what it does, I might consider it. lol Can you imagine the amount of coordination it would take to even pull off one maneuver though (especially if you decide to play as a group)? oO;;

A user of this : Haha I know, right? I'd totally get one, but the thing would take up half of my bedroom!

You know what, man? I should probably give it another shot. I tried it as a kid and kind of hated it. Or actually, I tried Um Jammer Lammy ("there's a new rockstar in town. No idea why I remember the sales pitch) and it was so similar to Parappa that it even had him in it. I would love to find a good rhythm game, but sadly I cannot. I did love Bust A Groove back in the day though.

Yeah, I think that's about where we all are with this right now. "Cool! But uh...why?" xD

Yuna1000 : It would make a great team exercise for the mod team! We all take a button and blame User if we lose the game
As for fitting it in the house, I'm pretty sure it could double as a chair, so it's actually a space saver! And think of the workout using it to actually play solo would be! lol

Kids used to play Twister in the past, but now they have something else which will require to bend their bodies to reach a specific button.

It would come in handy for all those co-op games, only that you could be using 4 person co-op with the same controller and with each player only needing one each of the three kinds of functional buttons it has. If it costs less than 4 normal-sized controllers, then expect big sales from it.

But seriously, the only reason why they made this is because they can. I've seen oversized rackets being used in tennis just because it's funny to have a ridiculously oversized item, so it's no surprise to me they made this. You can probably expect one of these at most game shows Sony will star from now on, if people likes this giant controller, which will surely do, they'll take it anywhere. Who knows, maybe in the E3 the sticks and touch pad are functional as well.

Eirinn : I want this to be the only controller accepted in game tournaments. Think we can make that happen?

I never heard of Un Jammer Lammy. It sounds interesting though!

A user of this :
Lammy is a less good Parappa.

Eirinn :
You might want to try one of the Project Diva games or Beat Crusaders.
They are both pretty good modern rhythm games. Parappa and Lammy definitely show their age and are very unforgiving. >.<

legacyme3 : xD Thank you so much for that post. I need to quote you on that the next time I hear that same old story about the Dualshock's size.
Because I totally but a $400 console based on the size of a controller.

EX Palen : Yeah the funny thing is, they could probably land more sales on this than would be expected... assuming people could find space for it.
Whaddaya say? I grab Driveclub and you man the steering while I handle gas and brakes?

Yeah, like I said, they like to pull crazy stunts, especially at the Taipei Games Show. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they're already thinking up new ways of making a big entrance at next year's show.
Can we get a twenty square foot PS4?

A user of this : Let's start the petition !

And Um Jammer Lammy was basically a rip of Parappa but with a guitar.

Vanelan : I seriously thought about Project Diva X, but it seemed a little too...something. Not even sure. Beat Crusaders is a new one on me though. I'll check it out. Thanks! So far all I have is Patapon 3, and while it's an interesting concept, it's also kind of complicated and takes away from the strict rhythm experience that I want.

Eirinn : I know its vocaloid, and that might not be your thing, but it is a fun rhythm game.
There was a demo on PSN a while back. If its still there, I think you should check it out.

As for the other game, I mixed up the name.
The Beat Crusaders are a Japanese band that does the music in an anime (Beck).
I meant Elite Beat Agents. Its basically Osu! with a quirky storyline.

This is... Mildly amusing I suppose. I don't find it particularly funny, kind of pointless to be honest. I do like how the game they used to demonstrate it though was Un Jammer Lammy. Still if they're going to go out of their way to do something amusing at least make it something more witty

tRIUNE : Who knows. lol I actually think it was just a publicity stunt really. They knew it would grab attention worldwide from an otherwise unknown game show outside of that particular area.

But yeah, I was wondering what else they could have done with that money myself... like buying Harvest moon exclusivity. Make it happen, Sony! lol

Zlinqx : Like I was basically saying to tRIUNE, I don't think it was to be funny so much as it was an attempt at getting attention. After all, you can't sell to someone who isn't paying any attention, and that's why they have these shows. Everyone who was there was already paying attention to PlayStation, but they knew this would grab attention worldwide and even the attention of those who don't follow PlayStation. It worked too, because it popped up on several US game and tech news sites, so I can only imagine that it popped up in several places in other countries as well.

Besides, you know how Sony dominates the flashy scene. This just screams PlayStation. xD
