So I was hoping to find out some info on Blu Ray movies, I have a lot of them but in my case, would it be worth it to go out and buy some sort of a player so I could play them or would it just be better off watching the normal versions of the movies? I know that the Blu Ray versions do come with extra specials like behind the scenes stuff and other stuff, but in terms of the actual movie, the quality, or sound, or whatever, is it really all that great?

Blu-Ray looks waaaaaay better than DVD. I stopped buying movies on DVD years ago. Whenever possible, I buy something on Blu-Ray instead of DVD always. If you want to watch stuff in HD, you have to go with Blu-Ray. Going from DVD to Blu-Ray is like going from VHS to DVD.

By the way, there's a difference between disc and disk. Disk would be used for a disk drive or a floppy disk. Disc would be the correct term for this thread since disc refers to a CD, DVD or Blu-Ray.

Davideo7 : while I never ever saw a blue ray movie before, I only buy movies that are the blue ray, DVD, digital combo just in case. I was recently thinking of just selling off the blu ray copies but I guess now it's worth looking into if it's really that much better. P

zanderlex : It kinda blows my mind that you've been watching DVD movies this entire time. If you don't have a device that plays blu-ray movies then I highly suggest getting one unless you either have really poor eye sight or have a really outdated TV.

Davideo7 : I have neither, all my movie watching is on my laptop, which seemed great until now lol.

I was really hoping that it was a blu ray compatible laptop but no.

zanderlex : If you do all of your movie watching on something as small as a laptop then it might not be too big of a deal. You'd see the difference more on a bigger display.

If I wanted to see HD I'd throw on a pair of glasses cause my vision is getting bad

I just don't really get the whole blu-ray thing but that is just me. I don't need better quality if I can see it and hear it that is all that matters. People often shoot for the best products in life but that is no way to live or you will become over obsessed with it and depressed when it's taken away from you. I have seen these kinds of people on youtube often complain "was this recorded with a potato?" and "this isn't HD". Nothing wrong with DVD's they are still awesome!

zanderlex : I actually don,t own any blue ray movies just vhs and dvd but to me they are just as good as the blue ray but I guess it depends how often you watch movies and what type of movies you prefer, since I hardly watch a movie I don,t bother to buy any blue ray ones and besides it would probably end up costing more to buy a blue ray player than to buy one that can play dvd and vhs movies

Here's the real deal: watch all your movies in digital 1080p blu-ray on your laptop and connect it to your flat screen with an HDMI cable. What's that? I am pirating? Sure, who doesn't, also prove it lol.

tRIUNE : What's wrong with pirates? I have all the Pirates of the Carribean movies and they seem ok. Lol.

In order to do that though, wouldn't my laptop need to be able to play blu ray in the first place?

Welp it has the highest visual quality this far, has better protection against piracy, fingerprints, scratches, and more storage space (25 to 50 GB).
While it costs more than a DVD in terms of pennies to pennies, it is stipulated that Blu Ray discs could be cheaper when focusing on GB to GB.

It really comes down to the video/gaming experience- naturally if you have a very old tv that is less than a 1080p and it is substantially a small monitor then, it is questionable as to why spend the extra money on Blu Ray if at the end of the day those other factors will affect the quality and overall experience.

So, you got to look at what "equipment" you have and from there decide what's more convenient.
I found this site that gives you some options on how to be able to play Blu Ray discs on your laptop hope it helps:
See here

I would only consider upgrading when it comes to gaming; not really movies or streaming- to me as long as I can see it and hear it I'm good.

no 8120 : You still have a VCR? O.o
I think I might have like 1 VHS of an old anime that I bought like 20 years ago, but no VCR to play it on. ^^;

zanderlex-
You could always go with a PS3. Since the new PS4 is coming out, I think you could probably find 1 fairly cheap.
If you add a Blu-ray drive to your laptop, make sure it has some kinda software bundled that can play Blu-rays.
There aren't many free alternatives that work very well... and the ones that do "work," only play a select number of discs.

I think I have an LG, but I got it without software, so its a bit of a pain to get movies to play on my laptop.

You might be better off just getting your own little TV for the PS4 than trying to get a working Blu-ray drive.
Black Friday is coming up, you might be able to get a 24" LED TV for really cheap. ^_-
