I must agree with what has been said here. Now people might give you crap about dating an underclassman, but hey,at least you are dating right? Now I would agree with Eirinn, there may or may not be legal issues in this,do check your local laws. Just remember treat her right and be warned,if you are a jerk to her, your name will be mud in school.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  No question is sadder than, "What might have been?".  That's all you need to know.  What's the worst that can happen if you ask her?  Does that risk outweigh the potential reward if you ask her and she says yes?

I don't see a problem with it unless one of them is an adult. If an 18 year old is dating a high school student, that is against the law. If you are 18 and in high school, though, that's fine. But a lot of people have been put in prison for being with a minor.

supermegablox :

We had the child when I was 16 turning 17 in a few months and he just turned 14 a couple months prior. So since we were both under 18, there were no legal repercussions. As long as its outside of law's legal grip, there is no limit to love.

Being that you are 16 and she is 14, some people will frown upon it. Heck, someone is always frowning no matter what you do. Dating should not be such a big deal but, what you need to keep in mind is that if the relationship lasts you'll be 18 and she will be 16 which can get you in a lot of trouble. So, I would suggest starting a dating relationship if you both feel that's what you both want however, keep in mind that when you turn 18 or just 17 you should consider talking to her parents and being careful until she turns 18. Never hurts to be safe and cautious. But. high school relationships tent to be more about sharing experiences and doing a lot of things together so I don't see the problem there.

sonic23 : Good! No I meant in a more advanced type of relationship only because of the crazy cases I hear about here in FL where the girl is 16 and the guy is 18 and he ends up doing jail time because someone in the family disagreed with the relationship. But yes, dating I don;t see why anyone should say anything specially being in high school- I say go for it and invite her to homecoming or school dances- looking back at my high school experience going to those with a significant other was very memorable. In regards to other people just talking about your relationship- is going to happen people always talk. I am 24 and I still hear it about my relationships so, just be happy and ignore everyone else.

sonic23 :

What I gathered you are a good guy and you want a serious loving relationship. Two years wont mean anything when you both get older. I would say go for it and good luck. To you both I hope.

sonic23 :
Go for it man!! A 2 year difference is pretty much meaningless at any age. When I was a Senior in high school I dated a few Freshman and nobody seemed to care (outside of your usual high school drama stuff).
And some people might not think highly of this, but even if she's not "the one" date her anyway. Dating at that age is mostly about finding what you want and don't want in a partner. Even if things don't work out, you will learn new things from every relationship that will help you better maintain (or avoid) future ones.

And just a side note that may apply here... "The fear of doing something is almost always greater than what it takes to actually do it."

So I just learned more about the law here in the state I live in, thanks to Criminal Justice class. Here's how it goes -

If a 13 year old "goes too far" with a 16 year old, that is legal. However, if a 13 year old does this with a 17 year old, it is illegal. There is a 3 year gap, anything above 3 years is illegal. Of course, if both of the partners are 18 or older, then this rule does not apply to them.

LunarDarkness2 : You have to keep in mind that every state (or perhaps country) has their own laws.
What might be allowed in your state could be illegal in another state/country.

sonic needs to check his OWN locality's laws...

sonic23 : Only thing I'd suggest really taking note of is her maturity. Obviously, you're not the same person at 16 as you were at 14. Everyone matures at different stages. Just something to chew on.

it all depends on the girl and the state laws. how old she is and how old you are. how mature she is and how mature you are. a lot of variables, but this sounds innocent enough where there wouldnt be a problem in atleast trying.

It's ok to date a girl two years younger and two grades lower than you as far as I'm aware of. Honestly speaking you've got to be aware that she may be less mature or more mature than you but most importantly you shouldn't forget that as someone two years older than her you should have enough knowledge to provide for her and soon you both will have enough knowledge to provide for each other. What may be her weakness in life might be your strength in life. After all a wise man once said "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link." So yeah go for it I support you to the fullest.

It is perfectly ok to date someone 2 yearz younger then you ... to me age is just a number written on paper and if your going to let that stand in your way of asking her out then she'll end up with someone else and then all you can do is watch the relationship and feelz jealous of that guy :/
