Hallelujah Their is HTML/BBCode. Now I feel awesome... or not.

Hello fellow gamer. The name is ShotoNemar. If your my friend I'm okay with Shoto, however I have that full username for a reason. I would like to take a moment to ask how the site works and if there is any helpful links for me. I already visited the rules, and F.A.Q., but if there's anything else please don't hesitate to point it out.

As for me personally I'm a casual gamer that owns a lot of consoles for were I live. I own a PS2, N64, Genesis, Wii, WiiU, and a Gamecube for standard systems. I also own a Gameboy Advanced, DS, DSi, 3DS, and somewhere extra parts that connect the two types of systems together such as a Gameboy connector.

I also own lots of games for where I live, however still not as many as other gamer's. I've seen tons of others with more games then me. I own a total of 4 small bookshelves of console games, not including N64 cause those don't have the boxes anymore, and about a handful of Gameboy games and DS to 3DS games. I also own computer games however I'm not a big one one that.

So you may be asking- Why are you on this site? you already own those games. The truth is I do, and I'm highly experienced in a lot of them. However quite a bit of them are dying and old, and plus require the television to play. I wanted to be able to play my favorite old games on here.

Thanks for anything you have to offer as well as reading this whole thing. I'm particularly curious how to edit my Forum profile. Avatar and signature. I was also curious if I could advertise other sites I join in certain areas such as my signature.

Hello ShotoNemar, welcome to Vizzed.

As for your questions, as rules and guidelines go you should be just fine since you read the F.A.Q. and rules pages. The only thing I could think of would be some ettiquette that (to my knowledge) isn't mentioned anywhere yet.

For example, before posting a thread make sure there are no threads that are the same or extremely similar to it.
So say you want to make a thread titled "What's your favorite Mario game" look first to make sure there aren't any threads like that already. Other than that I can't think of anything.

A helpful tip if you plan to use the forums a lot is how to summon someone.
See, if you reply to something someone ellse has said, they probably won't know that you replied to them if you don't summon them.

There are two ways to summon:
1. Instead of clicking "Reply" look above their post that you're replying to, and click "Reply to post".

2. Type their username (use proper capitalization and exact spelling) and put a space followed by a colon (Though the space may be optional).

Eirinn : Like this. This will send me a notification that you replied to my post. Try it out.

Oh and another piece of forum ettiquette: don't summon someone to a thread that they made, because the thread maker gets notified everytime someone responds to their thread anyway. This is known as a double summon. This isn't anything that will get you in trouble, it's just a courtesy to others.

As for the profile: there's a button at the top left of any page that says "edit profile and settings": that will take you where you need to go to edit your profile. However some things newbies cannot change, so you may have to wait until you become a "member" to do what you're wanting to do.

The avatar and signature are edited from there as well, but signature is a part of "layouts" and a newbie has no access to that.

Advertising is indeed against the site rules. Sorry.

Hopefully this helped. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Eirinn : Thanks for the help, and answering my questions. I find it a little weird that the website doesn't do a subscribe system like most forum websites. The Newbie thing is a little irritating and is more of a waiting game then it is to an introduction to the site for me, but I'll endure it, and wait to see how much I like the forums after I become at least a member. The tips you gave were very helpful, and I'm grateful for it all.

I would also like to mention, as a off topic sounding thing that probably should be avoided, I love your layout. Harvest moon is one of my favorite franchises, but the specific one located in your layout is also one of my favorite games of the harvest moon series. Sorry for being off topic, but it seemed necessary.

What do you mean by subscribe? I'm not too familiar with forum-based sites outside of Vizzed. The only other times I've used forums were on a site that kind of added them as more of an afterthought.

You're very welcome for the tips. I'm glad I was some help. And thank you for the compliment on my layout. I've been a Harvest Moon nut since around '99 I guess, so getting a Harvest Moon layout when I started posting here just seemed natural. lol

Hello and welcome ShotoNemar! I'm glad that you've gotten some big help here! If you ever need help, feel free to ask me, the staff, or the mods! We are all willing to help, and I can't really think of anyone who doesn't want to help!

Which game brought you here? How did you find this site?

You sound like a hardcore gamer to me... I have games, but mostly on Steam... I love this site, but I usually just use it for the forums, and don't worry about getting past the newbie stage... Just post 10 posts, and then wait a total of 10 days past sign up, and you're a full fledged member!

gingiscatuma : okay. Have you tried enabling the plug in? Often, it's not automatically enabled... try doing that and if it still doesn't work, PM me about it.

Eirinn : Subscribing in a forum goes something like this. A person makes a thread, and then is automatically subscribed. This means they will always get notifications from the thread. Others who post will be given the choice to subscribe as well. If they don't they don't get to know what happens in the thread. If they do every time anybody posts in the thread they will be notified about it. It won't be a notification each time, but rather it will replace the old notification. You can choose to unsubscribe from the thread anytime and no longer gain notifications from it. This is easier then having to type out each user name of all the people in the thread to notify them of something.

However this system of using the user names allows you to solo out someone as well and not notify them of things they don't care about. It's unique, and different. I wonder what system is better.

darthyoda : Thank you so much for welcoming me. I really enjoy it more then you know. I am sorry for being late with this one, but its a little hard to keep up with the forums a bit. Just the fact that I'm new I guess. Thank you also for offering to help me. It's really great.

As for what game brought me here. Well actually a couple different games that I wanted to play, but the one that lead me to this website would be Harvest Moon 64 for the N64. It was one of my favorite games as a child and my absolute favorite Harvest Moon game, not counting Rune Factory of coarse. It was kind of disappointing that I couldn't play some of my favorite N64 games anymore due to age, or someone else in the house stealing the Television. I found this site looking up emulators online for Harvest Moon. I went to a couple, but found myself liking the structure of this one.

I don't go on stream for whatever reason, but I assure you I'm more casual then I sound. I just tend to block out the rest of my life when it comes to websites surrounding one thing. It's my way of keeping safe on the Internet I suppose. Either that or my alter ego that I become when I start typing. Although I guess it depends on what your definition of Hardcore gamer is.

gingiscatuma : This should be on the Firefox settings page... I will try to give a Step by Step help on this!

First question, have you tried using an alternate browser? Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.

For me, the Firefox thing, just worked, I didn't have to change anything, but I would be more than willing to research this for you. If you can, could you send a message so we don't spam this thread?

Oh okay, we actually do have something like that, only it's called "favoriting" here. At the bottom right of any thread you can find a button labeled "Add to favorites". Clicking that will ensure that you're notified of each reply to the thread. I didn't find that out until I became a Staff Member and Davideo7 told me about it, so missing it is definitely easy. lol

I think I like this system more just because summoms keep it tidy by allowing you to specify what you're saying to each person, and make it easier to see at what point in a reply the person who summoned you starts talking directly to you (easier than plain text would). Also it saves you from having to always check and see if a reply was directed to you or not. I may feel that way because it's the method I started with though. Both have their merits.
