Well, I've gotten board with this era's polished games, I want to see where it all began. I primarily use emulators and roms, so there isn't really a limit to what I can play (although it's gonna' be easiest for GBA, SNES, and NES games). I'm already playing games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound, but I feel like I'm missing a lot of history here. Can anyone help?

Super Mega Man 568 : I would suggest Pokemon, since this is the Pokemon forum, but I think this might be better off in the video game forum instead, so there's a broader range to work with.

You shuld definelty try some of the old Pokemon hacks, that's what I'm going to suggest since there's s many and some of them are really good.

I would recommend playing punch-out, it's one of my favorites. Or M.E.T.R.O.I.D. (spell check hates me), it has a strange feel that most N.E.S. Don't.

Metroid is a good place to start, but if you want to get a real feel for what early games, I wouldn't suggest it, as it changed the rules for how games are made. Mario 1, 2, or 3. Those would be the ones that were the common style games. Kirby is also a good place to start, but it gets old, at least for me.

I would recommend playing Mega Man games. The classic series 1-6 is on the NES. Mega Man 7 is on the SNES. Also Mega Man III, IV and V for Game Boy are really good. Mega Man X1-X3 is on the SNES and those games are really good.

Mega Man was very popular in the late 1980's and for much of the 1990's

Super Mega Man 568: First off I recommend Shinobi III, on the Sega genesis. It's a really smooth plat former with a fast game play and really gets the adrenaline going. High quality for one of the older generations. Metroid is a good one it gets you thinking and working towards the next level. Fire emblem are good for strategies and gunstar heroes is another good action packed plat former.

Those for the most part and for anything else I'd have to say super Nintendo, I still find some of these classic very difficult. Even though I suck so bad at some of them I still enjoy them.

Try some of the original Zelda games! They really set the standard for most action/adventure games. Their all playable here in RGR and there are some ROM hacks available here to if you get bored of the original ones .

Super Mega Man 568 : Hey, I'm not sure if you like metroid or not, but I would recommend both Zero Mission and Fusion. They are both on the GBA and--in my opinion--are a lot of fun!

Check out the Metal Slug franchise. Fun side scrolling shooters, just need a MAME emulator.
