As you all know, Minecraft updated to 1.8 recently which means most of you have probably been having troubles getting on to the server. You can still get on the server if you use a version prior to 1.8 (such as 1.7.10) and here's how to do that.

Within the Minecraft Launcher, click Edit Profile and then under 'User Version' choose 'release 1.7.10'. I'll post a diagram below.

I'm not sure when CraftBukkit 1.8 will come out (that's what we use on the server) or if it'll ever come out since it appears Mojang placed a 'DMCA takedown request' on the CraftBukkit site as seen here. So for the time being, you guys will want to continue using an older version until I get more information.

Mega Mewtwo X : As stated in his post, it will be up if CraftBukkit releases a 1.8 version.

They're going through some legal issues, so it's unclear when they will release it.

Is it sad I've been so out of the loop about everything which used to make my life whole that this is the first I'm hearing of a Minecraft Update? Was that a grammatically valid sentence? I can't find a single place to put a comma, yet it takes an entire line.

I did some research on craftbukkit, and here's what I found.

Mojang bought craftbukkit some time ago, and hired developers to continue building it. However, as of recently, the developers decided to abandon the project. As mojang still owns craftbukkit, Minecraft developers Jeb and Dinnerbone (I think it was dinner one, at least) announced that they would be taking over development of craftbukkit and would work quickly to have a version out that supports Minecraft 1.8 asap. We can expect a new version sooner than later.

Jeb also mentioned that craftbukkit is not, and will not be, the official server-hoster thing for Minecraft. Mojang owns craftbukkit, and will continue its development.

We won't be waiting long, in other words.

I was in shock those first few moments after I clicked David's link.

Hopefully they won't have to rebuild it from scratch, and from what you said, it looks like they might not have to.

Oh well. I guess I can wait. I hope CraftBukkit gets updated soon.

EideticMemory : As of this morning, when the craftbukkit development was officially taken over by Jeb, Dinnerbone, and Grum. Dinnerbone said that he would personally oversee the development. This morning, the files and development info were in the midst of being transfered over, which means that Dinnerbone will be able to continue from where EvilSeph and TnT left off.

skippercapt : If CraftBukkit was somehow discontinued then we have 2 options:
1. Use Minecraft 1.7 forever
2. Stop using CraftBukkit (which would result into losing a ton of features)

After some more research, it looks as though the DMCA takedown request is from another developer. One of the bukkit developers is angry or something. To quote what I read 'Mojang owns Bukkit, not the Bukkit team'. Sounds like there's some legal issues in the transfer of files and whatever, but I"m not 100% sure. It shouldn't affect Mojang's ability to put out an updated bukkit, but it might delay it a few days or a week or two maybe. Mojang owns Bukkit, so we'll still get the update. Mojang will probably have to appease this dev though.
