How long would it take to type up 2,000,000 words?

40 words per a minute is the average typing speed so that means it'd take the average person 50,000 minutes to type up as many words as I have, which is 833 hours. As all the good posters know, more goes into a post than just typing. You have time spent into thinking of what to post, time spent into proofreading your post, etc (and than there's time that goes into reading what you're replying to but I'm not going to go into that). So I think it's safe to say that for the average person, it'd take more around 1,666 hours to type that many posts. So how many days would it take someone to post that many words if they set aside 4 hours a day? It'd take 208 straight days to type up 2,000,000 words worth of posts if you made it your full time job to do so and spent 8 hours a day doing it and didn't take any days off and took no weekends off.



How long would it take to read 2,000,000 words?

250 words per a minute is the average reading speed so that means it'd take the average person 8000 minutes to read every single word I've typed up in my posts on this site, which is 133 hours. It'd take almost 17 straight days to read 2,000,000 words worth of posts if you made it your full time job to do so and spent 8 hours a day doing it and didn't take any days off and took no weekends off.



Compared to The Bible

The Bible contains 774,746 words so reading all of my posts would be the equivalent of reading The Bible almost 3 times.



If my posts were transformed into a novel

If my posts were a novel, it'd be the 2nd longest novel in the world. The longest novel in the world is 'Artamène ou le Grand Cyrus', which is 2,100,000 words and was published in 10 volumes but I'll have that beat before the year ends. If I was fictitious and had my own novel titled 'The Story of Davideo7', it would have 8000 pages (average novel has 250 words per a page) but I'm not fictitious, nor am I a robot (contrary to popular belief) so therefore a book based on my posts would be titled 'The Life of Davideo7' and therefore would be around 6150 pages (at 325 words per a page).



So what does 2 million words look like?

Below is what 2 million words would look like if I were to use Arial with font size 11 and completely removed margins so that I could fit around 800 words per a page (which would leave me with around 2500 pages).

It doesn't look like anyone will be hitting 2M soon: =) At least a year, perhaps.

While 208 days is a bunch, it's still a very generous estimate; I spent 8+ hours a day this January and was nowhere near the ~10,000 words/day needed.

Anyway, such an impressive milestone! What are you going for next?

For me, that would me I would have to type nonstop at max speed for 375 hours... 15 and a half days... 2 and a quarter weeks... But that's nonstop at 95 wpm (my avg typing speed, unless I'm bored and I decide to type about 70)...

Conglaturation! That's really a lot of words... bravo, bravo.

You know Dave, I could go on and on about how much of an understatement 1 billion and 2 million milestones that they are, but I would only end up echoing those who have posted here prior. You look at a number, and to us on the outside it's just a number. But to you and those more closely connected to the accomplishment it truly is...well, it Truly is! Just since yesterday, for instance, there have been 2.5 million views added to the site, of which I may have added five; 5/2500000. I'm just tear dust in this ocean you've built, and when I think about how the money figures are posted I wonder how you do it. Without God it certainly wouldn't be conceivable, and I think that's something that us on this side too easily take for granted. And honestly, I'd love to donate because I believe in what you're doing here; the only thing is A: Other obligations, and B: I have a thing about third parties (Paypal). But CP is "contribution points" for a reason; I'd like to think that I'm playing my role best I can.
That aside, these milestone numbers kind of remind me of an illustration concerning the U.S. debt a couple of years back.
Based on $100 bill:
One packet stack is 10,000 (100 bills)
$100,000 could fill a freight pallet (about 3' x 3') four feet high
As such, a billion would be 10 pallets ( =view count), each 3' x 3' x 4'

As such, if your time-math wasn't enough to show just how far you've come, if views and posts were tangibly even the size of a $100 bill (same size all dimensions as a $1), the view count would be 360 cubic feet! Working at Michaels (probably mid-level retail) that is a third to half of our weekly truck.

Congrats on typing so many words David! That is a huge achievement and you have officially blown my mind with all of those numbers. I knew that hitting 2 million was going to be right around the corner for you, but I never would've been able to guess that it would be so close to hitting 1 billion views. I think it is pretty cool how it worked out though. 

I hope to hit 1 million soon, maybe within 5 or 6 months or so, or however long it takes, but I am not awfully far away. Nonetheless, 2 million is a lot of words and I can't imagine spending all that time reading that much...especially considering it is thrice the amount of words that the bible has.....
