Here it is folks, the one that started it all, Mega Man (or Rock Man in Japan) came out in 1987 and was not extremely well received, but was a great game nonetheless. I am going to get into some really great aspects of the game that revolutionized the video game industry. First of all, you could choose which level you would like to go to in any order, kind of like Duck Tales, but had a rock paper scissors effect to it, having the bosses have weaknesses to another boss' weapon. Now let's hop into the review!
Graphics - 8: The staple of the series until Mega Man 7 was this 8-bit greatness that was the NES' hardware capacity. The enemies' sprites look very well done, the bosses do to, as well as Mega Man himself! The stages in the game look fantastic and do not put a strain onto your eyes while playing. I rate the graphics of Mega Man 1 an 8/10.
Sound - 10: It's Mega Man music, what else can I say? The music is to imitate rock No roll, as the names in Japan of Rock Man and Roll. Elec Man's stage also sounds like Faithfully by Journey (but most Mega Man fans know that by now.) I give the sound of Mega Man 1 a perfect score, 10/10!
Addictiveness and Replayability - 9: I say that the way you can challenge the six bosses will make for replaying the game because you can take different bosses down in different orders, except for the Wily Stages, which makes sense because it is a castle, even though you don't see any castle. It also is fun to do little challenges through the game, such as no dying, no missing with any weapons, and no getting hit! In fact, a man named Roahmmythril has done perfect runs of every boss in Mega Man 1-10! I give Addictiveness and Replayability a 9/10.
Story - 5: There is no story in the game, besides you have to stop Dr. Wily from doing any evil things while you beat the reprogrammed bosses. *SPOILERS* I am going to tell the basics of the story. First, Dr. Wily and Light went to the same college, same field, and Dr. Light was always surpassing Dr. Wily, which was making Dr. Wily jealous, so when Dr. Light created Bomb Man, Guts Man, Cut Man, Elec Man, Ice Man, and Fire Man, Dr. Wily reprogrammed them to do his evil bidding, so Dr. Light decided to change his preexisting robot Rock, into Mega Man to stop Dr. Wily from taking over the world. So I give the Story a 5/10 since the story is told in cut-scenes in later games, making it a little more relevant than no story told whatsoever. *END SPOILERS*
Depth - 5: There are not really multiple pathways, because the pathways are mostly on the same screen, so you can see the alternative path while you are on your own path. So I give the Depth a 5/10.
Difficulty - 8: This game is really hard if you are a casual gamer, but if you are a gamer who plays games every day, this is not too hard, but is still a bit of a pain in some sections, but the bosses are so easy with their weaknesses, so if you want a difficult game, don't use special weapons! I rate the difficulty an 8/10.
Overall - 9: I love this game, I love the series, besides the number of glitches that you can find if you try hard enough, this game seem perfect in every way, so I give Mega Man 1 a 9/10, a solid game, but a little too hard.
