Eniitan : Really interesting to read. When I see disabled people on streets I would probably not say anything because my parents told me that that's the best to do and I trust their opinion. And to help them, I'd probably pray that they're gonna get a better life. I think that's really all I can do. And sorry to hear that you're disabled

When I see disabled people (physically and mentally) I act as I do when I see other people. There's no difference between disabled people and 'normal' people. That word normal doesn't exist, no one is normal. They are people, just like everyone on Vizzed, and on this Planet. They shouldn't be discriminated against, under no circumstances. So, I see disabled people as regular human beings, because that's what they are, flesh and blood, just like all of us. I don't look at them differently.

I feel that disabled people should be treated as anyone should. With respect.

Nice thread~ Same as Dean, I treat them the same as how I treat people who are not disabled. I don't like it when some persons look at disabled people with disgust. They don't know how it feels like for the person they are looking at, and it probably hurts for a disabled and affects him or her even if it's just a simple glance from others, no matter how optimistic he/she is in life.

I agree with most of the posters on here; when I see a disabled person, I don't really think much extra one way or the other because to me, I'm just seeing a person. I will, however, notice if the person needs help and do so if it's needed. Like holding a door for a person in a wheelchair if the door doesn't have a power-open button. But then again, I'd do the same for a person with their arms full of bags, so to me, it's just common courtesy. 

What I don't do is leap to help them with every little thing. I believe that everyone deserves dignity and if the person is capable of handling the situation on their own without outside assistance, then I let them. Because it's humiliating for people to assume you can't. 

I applaud you for being open about your disabilities and encouraging discussion on things like this; it's a subject that a great many people tend to just not want to talk about because they feel embarrassed about it. 

I don't really treat disable people special or anything like that, I pretty much view them as a normal beings. I don't mind if they want a little help here and there, but it's annoying of they want help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Disabled or not they are still human I treat everyone with equal and respect just because they are disabled doesn't mean they are any different than us.

When I see a disabled person I get annoyed because no-one should have to go through what they're going through. I treat them like a normal person, but still help them if they need it. Everybody needs to feel independent.

I would say nothing. But I may understand them partly, since I have autism myself. I have my limits too, whereas a lot of people might not have that limit. (gosh, my English) Of course there are smart disabled people, just like there are "dumb" or "stupid" "average" people. (bear with me here, I'm trying REALLY hard to find the right words here)



The most important thing I've learned is to not think of my condition as a handicap. I've always held true to that, and as a result, I finished school and have a stellar job. I'd like to make an example to people like me.

Eniitan : When I would meet or see a disabled person. I would imagine myself disabled and then I would feel bad for that person and hope he/she feels better. I'm very sorry to hear that you're disabled, I hope you are fine.

I wonder how disabled people can cope without moving one of their limbs.
I respect them since they work hard and they don't take stuff for granted.

It's probably even worse when you "look normal" but aren't. I sometimes have to wear sunglasses and headphones purely because otherwise I'd suffer a sensory overload (which is not pretty when it shorts your brain and triggers a panic attack) and it's amazing how many people look at you weird for it. I may even have had a security guard follow me because of it but I was too busy trying not to freak the flip out to notice.

For the record: I'm Autistic Spectrum.

But yeah, one time a student was ribbing on another student who was in a wheelchair and I basically set them straight that no one wants to be disabled but most just get on with it and live their lives as best as they can. She really cowed down and avoided me for the rest of the term.

It's horribly disgusting how ignorant some people can be sometimes.

Ahh.. Yes. I feel sorry for disabled people. I just hope they have a better and a lot more happy life. Sadly, I can not do anything about it now sadly. Oh well.
