This month's Speed Run competition is for 'Super Mario Bros' for the Nintendo. You can play it here:

This competition is a new type of competition that started last month which is dedicated to speed runs. This is the only the 2nd game that currently supports speed runs but more games will support it soon.

RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of the ending screen by pressing F6 when you've completed the game. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where it shows the Speed Runs, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Speed Run', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Speed Run' to submit your speed run.


TIP: All warps are allowed.

1st = 10,000 Viz
2nd = 2,500 Viz
3rd = 1,000 Viz

Oh, this should be fun. I wonder if anyone will be able to get one of those 5-6 minute times for beating the game. *Goes to practice*

madison : I've actually pulled it off before. There was a point where I was considering competing for one of the top times on twin galaxies.

Davideo7 : That's really impressive. I can't even beat the game. Well not yet anyways. I keep getting stuck at 8-1 and 8-2.

madison : I think the fastest I've beat the game was around 5 minutes and 30 seconds. It's been a while since I've done speed runs on that game so I might be rusty now but if I find time this month, I'll definitely dust off my skills and try to take 1st in this competition.

Did you see the 4 minute 58 speedrun by Andrew Gardikis? Totally insane.
There is probably no way I could com first but I will try to (and fail).

How does the speedrun program work?

Does the timer reset every time i get game over, or do i have to restart the whole emulator every time i want to try a new speedrun again?

Sea_Food : It does not restart with a game over, but you do not have to close and open the emulator to reset the timer. Simply hitting the reset button under your game screen will reset the game as well as the timer.

I want to do a speed run of this game and I'm pretty good at most of the game. But when I get to 8-2 or higher, that's where things go wrong. Man Nintendo made world 8 hard.

I'm in!  This is going to be tough, hopefully I'll get at least get 3rd place...

That is correct. Student teaching is just making it too difficult to compete. I only plan on competing in one competition this month. 

I would like to know if it would be cheating if u went to world -1.

Can you still finish the game if you go to world -1? Level 8 is more difficult than I remembered. Had to practice a few things with save states before I could get my first run in. 

lolwayup : No it wouldn't be but how would it benefit you to do that? As far as I know, once you enter world -1 you're stuck there which means you wouldn't be able to beat the game.

jerryaberry : I don't think you can.

Davideo7 : I have looked about this a lot, and World -1 is famous for being a big secret, and that when you enter the pipe, it takes you back to the starting point so isn't completable. In the FDS version though, you can actually complete the game in the Minus World. -1 on the FDS is the underwater 1-3 level with headless bowsers and a few princesses. World -2, I don't know what it is like, and World -3 is the underground version of World 3-4 or World 4-4 with bloopers in the air (I think that is the correct world.) I don't know what World -2 is, I will check it on a video to see what it is like.

Oh, I didn't know that the timer resets when you hit the reset button. No more opening and closing the window for me. Now if I could just get past 8-2. . .
