Last E3, the Wii U was announced. Planned for release this holiday season, it is the first of the 8th generation consoles, and the the 1st by Nintendo to offer HD; 1080p at that!

Two days after it was announced, the Nintendo shares dropped by almost 10%, why? Well, some feel it will be the Dreamcast of Nintendo; it will be expensive (likely), and those casual players who bought the Wii will likely not spend $300 (?) an a new slightly more hard core (supposedly) console.

What do you think, will the Wii U bomb, or sell?

I think that most of the reason why Nintendo stocks dropped that day was because of the horrible initial sales for the 3DS, not so much because of the Wii-U announcement.

As far as the system goes, it's really hard to say if it will succeed or not. Everyone though the Wii was a joke before it came out, and look how well it did. Honestly I think it has the chance to be great, as long as they A. Get some 3rd party Support B. Make sure they are using all of their popular Franchises to their full potential at or near launch and C. Make sure that they have strong online gaming functionality.

Jordanv78 : They will have an new online network... I NEEDS to be better than the wii's to really sore. I also agree about the other two points. It seems there's a good possibility of having some good 3rd party support... but it has never been Nintendo's forte.

The Wii U will be great!!! (Lol, you can see it!) The Wii U has a screen on the controller. And yes, 1080p images will be awesome for a Nintendo console. But if Nintendo can make that, why they have not made the Wii more powerful than the Xbox 360?
The Wii U will be 50% more powerful than the PlayStation 3! Many others cool stuff will be on the Wii U. If you want to see more, you can watch videos on YouTube about the Wii U.

Nintendo Wii was bad (hardware wise.) If the Wii u is like this than you know what will happen..................

I hate to say it, but I think it will bomb, because it is supposed to be more hand held-ish, if I remember right. Plus, it is supposed to be pretty big, so the whole hand held thing will likely not work out well. Plus, the price of three hundred dollars sounds a bit ridiculous to me.

thing1 : About the price: There are no good guesses on the price, but many estimates do put it about the price the Wii was. It's the only way to give it hardware "hard core" enough for gamer.

I think it's a 50-50. It definitely won't do as good as the Wii, but apart from that, it could go either way.

Here, I am going to be one hundred percent honest, and say that I AM hoping that this WILL be the DreamCast of Nintendo. Why? Because they're basically like Capcom with their systems. One day, they throw in a brand new system, and I'll use the Nintendo DS here as an example. Before you know it, it's half a year later, and then they end up putting a brand new DS out into the market, which was seen with the Nintendo DS Lite. Later, they go and throw in an Extra LETTER into the name, add a couple of features that weren't in the previous system because of a specific little problem, and then ship it off, as seen with the Nintendo DSi (They added the feature to connect with all router types and they included a store). After that, they threw in an Extra large version of the same exact system, with other changes at all to it (Nintendo DSi XL). After that, they completely off the one letter and everything about that past system, add a different thing to the name, but make it 99% similar to the first name, add a new feature that everyone is going for nowadays, and pass it off, which was seen with the Nintendo 3DS.

The fact is, I don't want to get ripped off with buying a $300 system ONLY for it to drop out soon after release or end up being almost the exact same as the original Wii. So far, the only difference I've heard of were the graphics changes and the new controller. And even the games that have been said to be the system line up games aren't even that good, so what's to say that others later on will be any better? We've given the 3DS enough time, and all that has given us is a rerelease of Ocarina of Time, and even then, that's not even close to a good deal. Honestly, Nintendo has had there time, they've had their gigantic spotlight, and they've had their time on stage long enough. I'm sure it's time for them to get out of the system market and leave it to Sony and Microsoft to battle it out.

However, if SEGA unveils a really good Sonic game for the Wii U (Or whatever it's final name is going to be(Yes, it has been said that they will most likely change the name)), I'll end up actually buying the system, Nya~

Plus, if they do drop out of the system market, then maybe those butthurt DreamCast fanboys can get their little prized DC2 they've been begging for for so long now, Nya~

MegaRevolution1 : I think Nintendo is simply trying to make good profit, which I understand. Yes, it may fail, but it hasn't yet, and I don't see why someone would WANT them to fail simply because of their strategy. I love Capcom games! Regardless of their financial plans of re-releasing, I think their games are the fantastic, and for me, that's what it's about. If you dislike Nintendo, or an other company for the games they make, that's totally understandable.

Nintendo, or an other company, can re-release and upgrade all they want, when I see something that I know I will enjoy, I get it. The Wii had Zelda, Brawl, Galaxy, and Fire Emblem... if I enjoy those games, that's what I care about.

The 3DS is one of the greatest hand held I have played, and I can't wait for a Super Smash on Wii U/3DS.

It may fail, but I would never wish a classic video game company to dive simply because their marketing strategy rubs me the wrong way; for me, it's about the entertainment. 

I know I read something about the Wii U about two weeks ago. I think it might make a good profit in the future.

I have a feeling that the Wii U will be successful in business. The features seem out of this world and the graphics are extremely sharp, at least that's what I think. I heard and watched a Youtube video about it. It appears to look highly similar to the Wii. The remote has a screen on it. It resembles the actions occurring on the television monitor. I'm willing to purchase it and I won't be able to wait for it's release in stores.

Light Knight : Well, yeah it's an alright strategy, but they're doing it completely wrong. They ship them out at the same prices as the originals, and then wait quite a long time to go and lower the prices. I too love Capcom games, and the difference between them and Nintendo with this strategy is that they will ship there games at a lower price, usually at a 10 to 20 dollar difference in price. Plus, I really dislike the quality of Nintendo systems in general, so it's yet another reason I'd like to see them end up failing. They never truly improve, Nya~.

Wii U? OH, right! The Nintendo Siren! Yeah, I think it'll succeed! It IS Nintendo after all!

I've seen the add for it and it looks really cool and I'm thinking about buying it.

I've got to think it will be successful simply because it's Nintendo. Either way, it looks like an impressive group of launch titles, with the two sticking out to me being ZombiU and Scribblenauts. Are Pikmin and NSMB2 launch titles?

I'll definitely be buying the Wii U the day it comes out, because I'm really anticipating Nintendo making this a console worth waiting for and then dropping 3 hundred on. It'll be the most powerful system on the market until Sony or Microsoft make something new, which seems a couple years off.
