Personally I have always enjoyed this game. Sure, It's not as good as the Arcade ports on the NES. But I still think it's a lot of fun. I liked that they tried to put a more adventure theme in the game to do something different. I also liked the strategy of trying to keep your turtles, then having to bust them out if they got captured. Sure the game can be hard at points, but it's not as bad as some people make it out to be.

Have you ever beaten this game. Without save states? Do you like it?

gameface138 : if I'm not mistaken he's not talking about the TMNT Arcade game for the nes but the original nes tmnt that came out after the arcade game but b4 the nes arcade game u r talking about. I persoanlly hated it I got it thinking it would be someething like the arcade version but instead looked as if it was designed for a four color green screen and played like crap to boot, as almost a reaction to the poor reception of the orignal game the NES version of the arade game came and was and still is kick ass.

It was a good game back in the old days. Good part was tat you can switch out whch turtle you want to be during gameplay but the 2d graphics was not as good as when the arcade version of it came out.

U asked for my opinion and to me as a 10 yr old who hated along with all his friends this games it seemed as if the arcade game release was an apology for such a horrible original game, once again just my opinion and feeling I had at the time. I still wouldn't play that game unless you payed me. The arcade one gameface was talkin about is way better.

The main reason why people say it's so bad is because the AVGN did a review on it talking about how crappy it is. Then a lot of other online reviewers followed his lead. The other people who complain about it are people who don't like NES difficulty games.

Really it's not a horrible game. It's not one of the best either, but it surely doesn't belong in the same conversation as games like Action 52 or X-Men.
