The competition for the great mascot based racing game has been given to Mario Kart for years, and there's few competitors to it when it comes to a fun couch multiplayer experience. There have been a couple of games that captured the magic of WipeOut and F-Zero such as RedOut and Fast RMX Racing, but the real shining light for racing games has become the arcade racer.

Games like Need for Speed and Forza Horizon have become a lot more arcade-like in their execution, and Forza Horizon in particular might be one of the greatest open world games ever created. With almost a thousand things to do, and hundreds of signs to smash, cars to find, and races to partake in, with an online community that makes tracks, designs cars, and masters their tunings, with cool cars and fun ideas all the time, it's quickly become one of the most popular racing franchises of all time, and it's definitely become mine.

Other than Forza, I'm a huge fan of the WipeOut series, particularly 2048.

Garfield Kart, anybody?

Out of all the ones I've played, my favorite is still Project CARS 2. The many tracks it had, the cars, the weather system... I won't say it's perfect, but it's the closest thing to perfection I've seen to this day (who knows if upcoming games might dethrone it).

Assetto Corsa also has a special spot in my heart. While it didn't feature weather changes, the physics of the game are much better than in PC2. Not only that, but it's a fan favorite for introducing mods, which means you can add tons of more cars and tracks to it, just with the risk of encountering them incomplete or with errors as they're not made by professionals. They've also tried to add a weather system, but I play mods for my own enjoyment so no need to add that one.

Outside of simulators, I'm a huge fan of the F-Zero series. It was the perfect blend of fantasy and simulator, allowing for machine tuning and several variables to exploit. The other franchises revolving around fantasy racing took a very long time to get up to its level, which is mainly the reason why I want that series to be brought back.

I'm also very fond of the Crash Bandicoot racing games, I've played them all and didn't truly dislike any of them. The extreme speeds it allows, the frantic power-ups which include bombs and missiles (in one entry you could even throw a piano at another racer) and the ever-tricky tracks make it both enjoyable and hard to master. I've always placed it above Mario Kart, specially after Mario Kart started copying things seen in Crash Kart entries.

I admit I've started to lose favor of Kart Racers, or Racing games in general. I mean I typically play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now and days only as a bit of a way to spend time with my friends outside of the usual games that I'm wanting to play. Although if I would have to pinpoint a Kart Racer, I think it's without a doubt Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing (Transformed also included, but I personally prefer the first one.)

There was such a solid feel to the game that didn't feel like anything else I really played which is surprising because of just how much I really enjoyed Mario Kart Wii at the time but I think I actually played this game more overall. Surprisingly good Online for the time and the Missions were really fun for the most part. Plus it had a pretty wide host of characters that were nice additions and you barely ever get to see outside of being referenced or Cameos.

As for Racing games in general, F-Zero GX. Probably one of the most brutal and difficult games I've beaten (Which is only once. The Game is so hard I have yet to replay it again.) Even though I've only really played through the main campaign once, it was genuinely fun. It controls perfectly which is to be expected with how well X handled. As an added bonus, it has the cheesiest CGI cutscenes known to man and I can't explain just why I love them so much.

For me, it's a tie between NASCAR 98, Gran Turismo 2, and Need For Speed Payback. Gran Turismo is defintley one of my favorite gaming series of all time and I put way too much time into NASCAR. As for Payback, I played it a lot on PS4 and thought the controls were amazing so it quickly became one of my favorites.

I have a few racing games I really like. I really like the earlier Mario Kart games. I would normally play as Wario, Yoshii, Luigi and Bowser were the 4 characters I went too. Those games were fun. I can remember playing against my friends.

Another racing game I really like and its kind of a forgotten game. But Mega Man Battle and Chase. You can chose several Mega Man players and compete. Its a fun game its similar to Mario Kart except it uses Mega Man characters. I often played as Proto Man, Quick Man, and Shadow Man.

it's a tough call I like Mario Kart and it's ripoffs, but I do like the road rash franchise but sometimes I prefer the racing games where all you need to do is race

I’m not sure if it’s considered as a racing game, actually it can be. One of my favorites is Outrun from Sega. A simple race against time and reach the destination and how the scenery of the game is so beautiful and ever changing, depending on which road you take. It’s always a game I’m fond of, even though it’s weird how I found the game through Sega Arcade Gallery for the Gameboy Advance.

For a game with Race to first, I would say Need for Speed Most Wanted as it was such a good game with much to do and a career mode. I used to play that game so much trying to unlock every car that I can.

My favorite racing game of all time is and likely always will be Mario Kart Double Dash for years I thought it might be my favorite game of all time with its fantastic course design, great controls, and the best idea the series has the double karts. I have so many memories of playing Double Dash over the years and recently this year I realized I still have more to gain from the game as I've never tried to win all the time trials so when I next replay the game that's my end goal to prove that I have mastered my favorite racing game.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is my favorite racing game of all time due to it’s smooth controls, track depth and track variety. It’s going to be very difficult for Nintendo to top that one in the future.

I'm pretty much like some of us here, my favorite is Mario Kart (specifically 8 deluxe). I used to enjoy the NFS series more, particularly Hot Pursuit, but that series seems to have really gone downhill.

Really hard to chose my favorite racing game. Racing games were my favorite genre in the past, but I got into a lot of other games going to my adult hood.

A few personal favorites are Mario Kart DS, for long I've had a ds, Mario kart ds was always my goto whenever i was bored. Had a lot of fun with the multi-player feature even though you required someone else nearby with a ds.

Need for Speed Underground 2 is a good that was part of my childhood that always seem to come back play even now. I always loved that game.

Grid 2 is a game I played a few years ago and found it to be pretty good track racing game. I actually played a lot of the first Grid game back on the Xbox 360.

Just had to check if I replied to this.

Mine is Forza Horizon, but you may be wondering, which one? Well, it's either 4 or 5, I don't have a favorite, and I never played 1, 2 or 3, so...

I do also like Joy Ride Turbo, I did a review on it, same with Forza.
