Call it a guilty pleasure or your turn-the-brain-off show, but reality TV shows have always been a mainstay of cable television that still hold a lot of public interest, and this may range from celebrity shows like The Kardashians or The Osbournes to gameshow reality series like Big Brother and Survivor, or talent shows like The Masked Singer and The X Factor. You could also consider a lot of cooking shows like Kitchen Nightmares and Masterchef to be reality programming.

For me, I like anything with Gordon Ramsay, because he has a really unique personality that has toned down over the years to be more caring and teacher-like in his persona. I also really liked the era where he got extremely angry all of the time, but I like his game-show host and travel shows quite a bit. That part of The F Word where he was fishing for puffins in the air with a butterfly net and ate its heart was really bizarre. He's definitely my favorite personality in the scene, and he's shown to be far more reasonable than the arrogant and screamy guy people know him to be.

Other than gordo I really like watching Big Brother every year. The idea of separating yourself from society to be with 15 strangers in a system where you're constantly recorded, get an hour of hot showers a day, and a contest is had to see who eats actual garbage for a week. People have to vote each other out and be the best social personality, physical competitor, puzzle solver, and often a manipulator in order to reach the end of the game. You can always come to it each year expecting a new group of people to take their approach to the game in different ways, and the friendships that are made during their time in the house is always really nice to see. I wish the feeds were easier to watch in my country though.

I used to be a fan of stuff like Storage Wars and Pawn Stars, anything with basic history information taking place during a competition or day-in-the-life of a business owner was my jam back in the day.

A bizarre but categorically fitting reality show I like is The Rehearsal. This show comes from Nathan Fielder who is known for his highly elaborate prank show Nathan For You, and focuses on a home-improvement style show for people's lives. To make sure that you make the best confession or tell the worst news in the best of ways, he helps people who have trouble finding the right words make the right statements and find the ideal way to break news to friends and family. The bulk of the show centers around his plot to help a woman simulate parenthood so that she will be ready to have children, with a child growing older each week, as child actors are swapped out. He builds a TV set replica of her home and tries to find her a husband. The show goes pretty deeply in how hard it can be to find the right way to handle things and it really goes heavily into the nature of reality television and the psychological effect that acting in general could have on a child at a young age, and it takes a really bizarre introspective look at Nathan's desire to handle his personal relationships better and how he wants to handle parenthood, and shows the issues faced by some of the beliefs held by the mother in the experiment. It's a very unique show that does everything from comedy to legitimate reality television.

I actually do enjoy the Masked Singer, yeah I know it's kind of dumb but it's a fun and safe way to play laptop detective, and now I have a strategy in regards to guessing because I noticed alot of people that did Dancing with the Stars have done the show, plus the show kind of became COVID entertainment though I got addicted to it just before that virus reared it's ugly head

and you had better believe my jaw was on the floor when Kermit the Frog was unmasked back in season 5, I'm looking forward to season nine, and I'm glad it's actually returning in less than a month rather than waiting for March this time around, so this tells me it's safe or they're trying to burn it off, but after going through so many pre-emptions because of the MLB post season FOX should know that people are still interested in the show

I actually used to watch the Surreal Life alot back in the mid aughts when Much More Music existed (it was essentially a Canadian version of VH1, and sadly MMM doesn't exist anymore) so I got excited when VH1 announced they were rebooting it I sampled it and was quite disappointed with what I saw

oh I forgot to mention The Amazing Race Canada, which is exactly what you th ink it is hopefully next season they can spread out again since they could only do like a certain number of provinces

Being a Meteorologist I was still in college when this show was on. But I miss Storm Stories when The Weather Channel just did weather. I liked Storm Stories because it was told by the people that survived historic storms. In addition, the show would talk about how the certain event unfolded.

I know this may sound silly but I loved Fixer Upper. I would get some of my ideas on how to do landscaping from Fixer Upper. It was a nice show, nothing nasty or anything like that.

I watched the Masked Singer, but this past season was kind of meh. I did not like the new format at all. I hope they go back to the original format that made the show fun.

These are the only reality shows I watch. I mostly watch baseball and football.

My favorites would be The Amazing Race and Hell's Kitchen. I used to watch both a lot when I was growing up but I haven't watched either in a while. I also love watching Pawn Stars and Taskmaster clips but only on Youtube.

Though something I neglected to mention, when I brought up the Surreal life is that I wasn't sure if it should get a revival considering what was going on at the time we would have had too many internet stars on the show would anyone want to watch a show with Logan Paul or Corrine from the Bachelor? (I made the comment in 2017)

So a little update on one of my posts, Season 9 of the masked singer was kind of awful (I'm annoyed for two reasons 1) I hate Pentatonix because they are overrated, plus there are other mainstream acapella groups out there, I was so mad that I had to do Rockapella appreciation posts on twitter whenever the "California Rolls" hit the stage, 2) if it's rigged then why rig it for someone that most of us had never heard of hands up if you heard of Bishop Briggs before The Masked Singer, because I sure as hell never did, seeing Dick Van Dyke on the show was a bit of a treat though

also with Amazing Race Canada they actually started the race in Winnipeg this year (which I'm stunned about because Winnipeg isn't as big as Calgary or Vancouver or Toronto or Ottawa or even Montreal....but I'm sure they did this because the host is from Manitoba)

well the fall tv season is going to be reality tv heavy

Update since my last post.

I have kind of gotten into some of the shows on Food Network. I like Guy's Dinners, Drives and Dives. I have even gotten ideas from his shows. His over cooking shows are also sometimes fun to watch. Chopped can also be entertaining. There are also several shows were other chefs compete against each other on the channel. Sometimes I turn it there when my sports teams start doing bad and the game gets out of hand.

Robert Irwin restaurant impossible is a good series. Basically, Robert tries to help failing restaurants and help the owners see their mistakes. Most of the time there is an underlying issue that has never been addressed.

I have watched Home Town and fixer to fabulous on HGTV when I have been eating with my parents while watching TV. I Have actually gotten some ideas from them. Plus its a clean show nothing nasty in both.

Update since I’ve never posted here. My favorite reality show is Total Drama Island.

Joking joking but nah, I don’t watch much reality tv and the closest I can think of watching as a kid is actually Cops. It was an eye opener watching it when young and I’ve actually always try to watch it whenever it was on from 2002-2008. Since switching to satellite I haven’t watched the show until this morning when watching a documentary that was on VH1 “Planet Rock” and how Cops was created during the crack pandemic. Got me watching the first episode on YouTube actually.

Right now my favorite reality series is Jet Lag The Game. Season 4 was the first one that I watched earlier this year and I liked it so I went back and watched season 3 and liked it even more so when season 5 began in March, I've been watching every episode when it airs. It's currently in season 8 and it's becoming one of the coolest shows out there.

Mine is Mandalorian, I think that's a reality show, someone will have to explain to me what a reality show is, I think it's something that is in real life, like not a cartoon.

Total Drama is kind of an asterisk since it actually is scripted.....and animated, granted I did enjoy it myself in it's heyday

Dauntez : No that's not a reality show that is a scripted series set in the Star Wars universe

I'm more of a fan of stuff like big brother and other game shows, really. Well, the earlier UK seasons of the show at least. It's played slightly different in the UK than the USA, with the USA being more like survivor, and the UK version being more like what weird people from society can we find and let's see what happens when we force them into a house for a long time.
